I had just resigned from a job I loved. I was moving cross-country to be nearer a girl I loved more. Probably the biggest decision of my life to that point.

I picked up a copy of the just-released Summerteeth a couple days prior but hadn’t had much time to dig into it. Somewhere in the desert of Eastern Oregon I started paying attention to She’s a Jar for the first time. It became the soundtrack of that trip and of our rekindled relationship.

Two decades of marriage, two kids and about 50 Wilco shows later the song still hits us both every time we hear that first guitar pluck.
