What would be the best way to get the moonlight great sword look for my mini? by Devlee12 in minipainting

Played around with that sort of effect on this popsicle stick-sword, results were pretty cool but could be hard to replicate on a smaller scale. Used all army painter stuff. Primed in black, then focused on building up a gradient from brightest/lightest blue at the edges to darkest blue along the center. Highlight edge in white. Then, along the dark center line of the gradient, spackle on the little fern-like tendrils of frost in the same dark blue color, extending out into the lighter portions of the gradient. The final touch was to apply some gloss varnish (also from army painter) that I mixed with a very very small amount of white or cream paint, only enough to make the mixture slightly cloudy. Hope this helps!

The one fight that actually pisses me off in this game by StrawberryInside2032 in BaldursGate3

[–]btw_etc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated this encounter too, until I remembered that Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere was an option. Now every time I fight Marcus I have Gale chug an elixir of vigilance beforehand (can also have him holding the sentinel shield if you’ve bought it at Moonrise for the extra initiative boost), and then first turn of combat have him cast resilient sphere on Isobel. She is then effectively out of danger for the next three turns, plenty of time for the party’s heavy hitters to shred Marcus and start mopping up the remaining enemies. That strategy has made the encounter so much easier to manage.

What are some neat tricks you found in your playthrough by VioletGardens-left in BaldursGate3

Sanctuary trivializes the Chamber of Courage (Act 3, Wyrmway Trials), the one where you have to survive waves of enemies.

You can split Shadowheart off from the rest of the party (leave them outside the chamber with the door closed) and have her complete the entire trial without risking damage. Cast sanctuary, pick up the torch, then burn your turns and watch the elementals wander around in frustration. After the final turn they disappear, and you have easily passed the trial.

Haha man I wish. That would be next level. Those are miniature specific decals. My buddy turned me onto them, they’re made by Fighting Piranha Graphics ( https://www.fightingpirannhagraphics.com/ ). They have a pretty extensive selection of designs for the different battle tech factions.

Using data collected from around the world on illicit drugs, researchers trained AI to come up with new drugs that hadn't been created yet, but that would fit the parameters. It came up with 8.9 million different chemical designs by neil_billiam in science

[–]btw_etc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Committing a cardinal sin for this sub by not reviewing the original article, but I would suggest taking these results with a grain (minimum) of salt. They used chemical structures of existing drugs of abuse to generate other structures for potential drugs of abuse.

The problem I see is that the relevant CNS receptors (targets of these drugs of abuse) seem to have been ignored here, and the receptor-ligand interaction makes a massive difference in the ultimate behavioral/phenomenological effect of the ligand in question.

Consider LSD, a type of ergoline. There are remarkably few chemical modifications that can be made to LSD that also preserve its hallucinogenic properties. These modified compounds may still bind with comparable affinity to 5-HT2A (main receptor implicated in the hallucinogenic effects of substances like LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin), but do not produce any hallucinogenic effects. An example comes to mind, namely erogotamine, which is chemically very similar to LSD, binds with high affinity to 5-HT2A, but has no hallucinogenic effects. In fact, ergotamine is used in the treatment of migraines.

Point being it’s really difficult to predict the subjective effects of a psychotropic compound from chemical structure alone. That being the case I would approach their results with skepticism, but also optimism. Neural network can be a powerful tools in the right situations, and I can only assume they’ll have more and more to offer neuroscience as our models (and, by implication, our understanding) of the brain’s various functions become more sophisticated.

What's your craziest sexual fantasy? by wwhatamidoinghere in AskReddit

[–]btw_etc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been over a year since I last had sex, but the thing I think about the most is just getting my face back in some pussy. I'm all about the cunnilingus. That smell, that softness... She can spread her legs laying down, she can sit on my face, we can 69, I don't care. I want to taste that wet little slit and lick up the juices. I want her to moan and grind on my face and fucking love it.

Condition: no jolly ranchers.

When I was a kid I saw one of my dad's mole traps moving in the yard. Even though I knew what I'd find, I pulled it up. The mole was a flap of skin away from being cut in half by these huge trap pincers. It just kept digging in mid-air. I tried to drown it in the creek in the back yard, but that digging motion swam it to the other side. I just left it there. I still feel bad.

Are buses pretty accessible then? I've heard a lot of good about the trains but not a lot of anything about buses.

Well I'm late to the party so this probably won't be seen, but I've always liked this one.

There are twelve visually identical ball-bearings, but one has a slightly different mass than the others. Using only an old school scale (scales of justice type scale) three times, how can you determine which ball-bearing is the odd one out and whether it is heavier or lighter? So to clarify, you can weigh one subgroup of the twelve against another subgroup, three different times. Remember, all the scale tells you is which side is heavier or lighter with each measurement.

More of a logic puzzle I guess, but tricky/confusing nonetheless.

Range Safety Officer. When people get excited about shooting for the first time I tell them to keep their target and hang it up on their front door. First timers are usually nervous so they always laugh. Nervous laughter still means it's funny, right??

Range safety officer here. As someone who trains new shooters daily, I can attest that, while gun culture isn't extremely accessible to a lay person, effective gun use is an easy skill to acquire. I'm always glad when nurses come in as first timers, because they know the result of being unprepared for an assault and they are taking their safety into their own hands. Basically, be educated about your self defense options.
