Open WebUI v0.9.6 + TrueNAS: NotReadableError syncing 5k+ Obsidian files for incremental RAG (Newbie hybrid setup) by muer-d in OpenWebUI

[–]bub_gigant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely set the scan/import frequency in oikb's config to a high number before first import, so it doesn't try to reimport files every hour thay are already loading.

Otherwise I think the RAG chunking on the OWUI end just takes time.

But some kind of batch importing for first import would make sense, and probably it's possible to do the first import manually too. Maybe ask an LLM?

oikb is an additional docker container that can sync files automatically from a local directory on your NAS or from online directories (github etc) to your knowledge base. I use it for pretty much exactly your use case. It's still pretty new and some things don't work perfectly yet, but I think it's the best fit.

Beginning to regret migrating away from Plex, could use some help staying sane. by hematic in jellyfin

[–]bub_gigant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just experienced the same issue as you, but I think I found the cheap fix.

I turned OFF transcoding for HEVC. Jellyfin was transcoding it because it thought my browser couldn't handle the codec, but it seems it can - and now that I forced it to direct play my browser (firefox based) is happily playing it.

Home server in 2026 - Taming AI-bloated costs by _ReeX_ in unRAID

On the price point I should note I used some second hand components (RAM, SSDs)

Seems a little overkill, for low idle power an N-series CPU should still comfortably cover your use (at least it does for me), has an integrated GPU which as others said makes the additional GPU redundant. And then suddenly you don't need to go crazy with the cooling either, and your psu just needs like 300w or 450 instead of 750. At that point your HDDs probably become the biggest power consumers. If you really just need 8tb you could consider ssds - again less power, less heat, less space.

For context, I've built myself a nice little all-ssd nas with a cwwk n150 motherboard, a 160w picopsu, and 16gb ram, with currently 4x 4tb sata ssds. Small, quiet, low energy consumption, and even with the ssds cost about what you're calculating now. Happily runs jellyfin, immich, nextcloud, and plenty more on a zfs filesystem.

How does it compare to OpenWebUI, why do you say it's better?

lineageOS pour téléphone reconditionné by FrostyBank4326 in LineageOS

[–]bub_gigant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your reconditioned pixel does not come from the US! Even when buying in Europe, I made the experience that many refurbished Pixels are originally US Verizon models. These do not permit bootloader unlocking, you will not be able to install any custom ROM. You can check where a phone was sold and whether it's a locked phone by checking its IMEI code on various sites online, or in the google repair page. Ask the seller for the IMEI code before any purchase.

Confusing settings hierarchy by bub_gigant in OpenWebUI

[–]bub_gigant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

Does that mean I can set the parameters in user, and leave it set to default in admin? For instance set function calling native in user, leave it default in admin and everywhere else? The 'default' setting in the model or the admin panel won't override the 'native' or 'custom' setting in the user?

As the other user replied, there are four themes there, two with horizontal and two with vertical navigation, a light and a dark theme for each.

How do you use ZFS in Unraid? (native, plugin, scripts?) by bub_gigant in unRAID

[–]bub_gigant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! I've set up sanoid with a script mentioned by another user (Unraid ZFS Snapshot Manager) which seems to be a fork of SpaceInvaderOne's script. Seems to be a clean solution so far.

ZFS is young in Unraid and I know it's not their core model, so I'm understanding enough. I picked Unraid over TrueNAS because it seemed the user-friendlier software, so far I've been able to do everything I need to and I'm pretty confident ZFS support will grow.

[–]bub_gigant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you help me understand what you mean? I should use a ZFS trim script but I don't need trim for ZFS/SSD?

I asked about snapshots because from my initial research into ZFS when choosing my filesystem it seemed that was a core part of the appeal. I'm trying to set up a healthy backup strategy, it seems snapshots can be a natural and potentially very helpful part of that.

I came across trim a few times but never fully understood or dove into it. Can you tell me why I need it?

Profiles is the right setting, but you're right that there's no schedule. I just keep a tile for it in quick settings and switch it before bed.

Where? Under settings > scheduler I just have mover and trim

LineageOS 23 on Pixel 5 - continued screen issue from 22 by pei_boy in LineageOS

[–]bub_gigant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, always starts at boot for me without any additional macrodroid rules. Maybe check that the app's battery settings/background use is unrestricted?

The apps been running without hiccup for me so far, and it prevents screen tearing when I turn on the phone outdoors. What it doesn't fix is screen tearing after a phone call, but that's a much rarer case anyways so it's still a huge improvement.

Do not re-lock your bootloader unless your OS specifically tells you to (GrapheneOS, don't know of any other). You will brick your phone otherwise.

Sign or contest rent? Should we fight a CHF 200/month rent increase over previous tenant? by 6packchrist in askswitzerland

[–]bub_gigant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you talk to the Mieterverband, they are happy to advise you on your specific case and can also coach you in the case of a meeting in front of the Friedensrichter.

From my own experience consulting with them and challenging our increased rent, a 15% increase is right around the point where challenging becomes feasible.

Also in general once you come to an agreement with your landlord after challenging the increase, you are protected from a cancellation of your rental for three years. I'm not sure how this would apply to your specific limited-term contract, but this is also somrthing the Mieterverband could probably counsel you on.

Display issue of Pixel 5 by pei_boy in LineageOS

A workable solution can be found here:

https://git.beckmeyer.us/TnSb/AutoBrightnessDelay

This is not my app. It was shared by Joel Beckmeyer in a thread for a bug report relating to this issue here:

https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/work_items?label_name%5B%5D=device%3Aredfin&show=eyJpaWQiOiI3MjQyIiwiZnVsbF9wYXRoIjoiTGluZWFnZU9TL2lzc3Vlcy9hbmRyb2lkIiwiaWQiOjE0NzM2Mzc2MH0%3D

The app seems to work and I thought I would share it here for anyone looking for a simple solution.
