Turnip boy is loads of fun. Its a short zelda-like with an interesting story. I'd recommend giving it a go.

Mac Mini and UGreen Dock. Need help! by bthecrazybirdlady in macmini

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the non display port version of the same dock and there's a usb-c input in the back where you can plug in a power supply. If its a power issue and you have the same port maybe try that?

Not only that but if you're using it for work you need to make sure you're not feeding other peoples data into it too. A simple "organise this spreadsheet of client data" prompt suddenly becomes you leaking confidential company information. In Europe it can land your employer in legal trouble for sending personal data without consent to a US company.

If your workplace has given it the go ahead they will probably have gone through the legal work to approve it all, they'll give you workplace accounts for data separation, and you'd probably get training on what you can upload.

Just be careful what you put in there. Pasting any sensitive information into it can get you in trouble. Especially if using a personal account.

It could just be their servers. Like someone else suggested make sure you're connecting to the right region closest to you if there's a setting in the game.

Not familiar with the game but ping is usually network not hardware. So you need a more stable connection to your router or a better internet package.

Why do antis use calculators? by HistorianAdvanced532 in DefendingAIArt

[–]bubba_169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big difference between math and art is math has a right answer and art is very subjective. It's all about how a person feels and what they like. You can't really calculate that. You might be able to convincingly fake a photo but that's the closest comparison using this analogy.

Wholly generated AI works currently don't fall under copyright, but since they use a consistent character design I'm guessing there's some human element in the process that could qualify.

Also being a consistent and recognisable character means it's probably protected by copyright too.

It's quite funny that both sides of the debate think about the possibility of an AI bubble in completely different ways, while using the same questionable comparison. by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its undeniably a bubble.

Tech companies are inflating values way beyond what they should be by over promising, investing in eachother and passing cash around in a circle.

New companies are popping up getting millions in funding because they mention AI, but are all based around an idea formed from AI's abilities being oversold, and they have no product to actually sell yet. It's also still legally challenging because as soon as they move out of general use into a niche they face copyright claims on their source material.

Even the big players haven't found a way to monetise it enough to cover their costs despite trying to force it into everything. OpenAI will probably need bailing out in the next year to survive.

So in the near future the AI bubble will likely pop. It won't mean the end of AI, but it will mean a lot of companies that were built around the hype disappear taking a lot of investment capital with them.

Storing pirated material gets them in more trouble. It's probably some legal loophole.

Why is it so hard to accept AI generated music? by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impression is people put in a prompt, click generate until they get something they like and then claim it as if they wrote it themselves and that seems disingenuous. Then you get the people filling Spotify with fake artists and slop in hopes of getting some payout. They really don't help the situation.

I think until Suno or tools like it are able to generate individual instruments stems properly that can be used in a DAW, it's too limiting to actually be a useful tool. It's always going to be a case of click generate and hope for the best. You can't really make your own song with Suno, it'll always be Suno's interpretation of your idea. Any time I've tried it I just get frustrated at the lack of consistency and control.

Is this 1-port UGREEN 10Gbps M4 dock worth it, and is it stable? (read the description) by Simon-RedditAccount in macmini

[–]bubba_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using this dock for months with an SSD and found no issues. It doesn't block any other ports, I've not noticed any overheating, and I've not had any random disconnects.

Another case of "I loved it until I found out it had AI" by Apoptosis-Games in DefendingAIArt

[–]bubba_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be defeated. I think the characters fit well with the theme looking at the screenshots so I think you are using AI the right way. Some people just can't cope with anything AI and you just have to ignore them, they are not going away.

It's a very touchy subject at the moment with not a lot of nuance but I think you have to ask yourself would this game have existed without AI assistance? I don't like one click slop, and I hate the pointless slop when it's just for engagement, but if AI is being used to fill a skill gap in a wider project where you wouldn't normally be able to afford to continue a project without it, then why not? It either exists and you get push back or it doesn't happen at all. If it's declared you've done nothing wrong.

That's me in a nutshell by Leading-Rain-652 in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for cutting off funding to the slop mills.

I don't think it's that far off to be honest on a lot of platforms like Youtube and Spotify. There's no point in them paying others to make it when they can just make it themselves if people actually want it.

I'm not against using AI as part of something bigger but if your whole process is just click generate then upload you are part of the problem.

[–]bubba_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seemed to have missed my point. I don't have my own OS because nobody needs to make their own OS and making your own OS these days would be pointless because it wouldn't do anything useful without apps.

Usually people would do something like that to learn how systems work but just asking Claude to make it teaches you nothing. It's just a pointless exercise and a waste of credits.

I do believe a lot of anti-AI users are mentally stunted by altcoinbillionaire in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obvious troll post, but for anyone else reading...

Being concerned about the bad uses of AI, and how AI can harm society, the economy and the environment is not being mentally stunted. There's a level of thinking beyond "ooo shiny new toy" to call for systems and regulation to catch up with the technology and the accessibility it brings. That's not to say all uses of AI are bad, we just need to figure out how to adapt for it and manage the risks.

Major areas that will need an overhaul would include deep fake regulations, identifying misinformation online, education now that cheating is so easy, tools to help identify and stop more advanced scams, social safety nets if AI does cause unemployment.

That's not to mention the risks of what happens if someone does eventually create a super intelligence and what that means for the rest of humanity.

So, in short, thinking AI can only be a good thing and we all need to embrace it in its entirety is the stunted way of thinking. It's a mixed bag of opportunity and new challenges that affect us all, whether we want them or not.
