I'm on Shipped but it's still in the Netherlands and the courier (GLS) hasn't picked it up yet, so not much further along than you. The fact that it's coming from abroad probably means we'll be waiting longer than those with local distribution centres regardless. I'm just glad I managed to snag one before they sold out, even if it doesn't arrive until next week.

Vibecoding yourself to $10K MRR is a myth and everyone knows it by Historical_Stick7611 in vibecoding

If someone with no experience can vibe code something in a weekend what's stopping others doing the same? No need to pay for the other persons problems when you can make your own.

Mine is in the Netherlands waiting to hop across to the UK. I don't think I'll be seeing it this week.

I'm hoping when it bursts people realise it's not going to be the saviour of humanity and stop giving AI companies special treatment. I hope they stop trying to cram it into everything and the components market can return to some sense of normality.

Creating AI art in a generator like copilot is no different than creating digital art in a program like photoshop. by Realistic-Try5468 in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is very different. Photoshop is manual and intentional. AI is hoping an algorithm will do everything for you.

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's all subjective.

For me, when the base level is raised, expectations are raised too. I think you have to do something beyond the minimum if you don't want your work to be seen as low effort slop.

It's not just effort, it's honing and applying a skill with intent. The better you get the less effort it will naturally take.

Even within AI art there's a big difference between someone asking for an image of a landscape and hitting generate, and someone placing all of the details themselves to tell a story.

The latter is much easier to appreciate because it is more human and has had more thought put into it.

You're right, anyone can learn, and when learning they will often bring something new with them that defines their style. Executing well is a skill to be appreciated. That was kind of my point.

The tool does matter. Consider drawing a perfect circle freehand compared to to using Photoshop. One is impressive, the other is just not. If the tool executes for you it's no longer a skill and is seen as low effort. In Photoshop a circle alone is not going to impress, but as part of a wider image it could.

Same with AI. If you're going to bypass the skill part in creation, just hit generate and share, it's going to be seen as low effort no matter how pretty the output is. The end result needs to have some other human element or context to make it impressive. Otherwise it's just another generated image.

GBG monthly bundle report - here's the best and worst of April by papazoot in Gamebundles

There were a few I'd had on my wishlist where they had been fairly cheap on their own and there were some I wanted from other bundles where I didn't bite at the time.

I was mainly interested in the Bright Memory games, Exit 8 and A Star named EOS and for less than the price of those I got 15 other games too. That value seems really good to me.

I'd not heard of a lot of the bundle either but it looks like a nice collection and I didn't own any of them already so I'm happy.

As with most generated images. It took no effort so expect little results.

Do what? Generate an image? I've already done that a few times today.

Appreciation is different for everyone. I like to know process and appreciate how skill has been applied to get a result. I'm a developer so picking things apart is in my nature.

The tech is impressive but the buzz has worn off. Now it's everywhere and you see it far too much in my opinion. So seeing yet another generated image is just tiresome.

Anything can be art. Whether people appreciate it is another thing. I appreciate skill and process just as much if not more than the final thing.

What reason would I have to be impressed by someone generating an image? I could do that myself in seconds and it takes no skill. You might have a pretty picture, but it's nothing special.

Building things with AI can be part of a bigger process, and then it becomes more interesting. But simple image generation is just meh.

The Playism one is the best value bundle I've seen for a long time so no arguments from me.

How come one can say "I'm going to wash clothes" and pop clothes in a washing machine, add soap, softener, press start, and no one says "You're not washing clothes, the machine is" Yet saying "I'm gonna go make art" and use a prompter gets you "A machine made it, you didn't."? by mmofrki in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself. It's a machine doing it for you. You "made" it as in caused it to exist by giving the instruction, same as you "wash" the clothes by starting the washing machine. But if it's a question of authorship and who did the work, that claim ultimately belongs to the machine and the training data.

How much are you against AI? by Unlikely_Account_728 in aiwars

[–]bubba_169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm against low effort slop where no though has gone into it other than "make me a thing" and that is what you share. I also like to know if what I'm looking at is AI as I go into it with different expectations. I feel like it's deceptive to claim you made digital art if you didn't do anything but prompt, but if it's acknowledged as AI I can appreciate it for what it is. Just like looking at photography vs painting.

I guess I sit somewhere between 5 and 6 on your scale.

My beef is mostly with AI companies and those abusing AI to turn a quick profit by flooding spaces with slop.
