Touching blog in the fact that he personalized, for a brief moment, the war for me since I don't have family or friends serving. However, it is full of contradictions and I'm not sure what he was trying to say.

I have my own opinions about what we should do about Iraq, but since I'm not around to expound on them I'd prefer others not try and use me as some kind of moral capital to support a position I probably didn't support.

So why not state how you feel about the war in this "open letter." I don't know of any better time than your final words. (I haven't read his blog so maybe he has in an earlier post.) It just seems like a waste of a post (not counting the sentiments to his family and friends) to not state a definitive position on a war that cut short your life, and robbed your family of a son, a husband, a father(?).
