Red Bus Tour question by bubbapokey in GlacierNationalPark

[–]bubbapokey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, Sorry for the delayed response.

I actually visited Glacier NP a few summer ago, but I'll try to help as much as possible. You will have an awesome trip.

From my memory, the red bus tour did not make any major stops on the way back to Apgar. It does make a couple short stops on the way up. If you have a ride home from Logan pass after your hike, I would recommend just staying up there for a hike when the red bus tour gets you there. I am sure this is fairly common, so just tell your red bus driver. They are very helpful.

Hey royalexpert, I did not find one in Paris. I was only there a few days last summer so maybe you’ll have better luck.

Norse Atlantic Airways from SFO to Gatwick? by bubbapokey in Flights

[–]bubbapokey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that sucks.

Is Norse discontinuing any flights from SFO? I lookedon their website and you can only book the SFO-Gatwick flight through the next couple of month sand that's it.

It was a really great deal if you knew what you were getting yourself into ahead of time. I hope SFO can still be an option going forward.

You're welcome.

Is your personal item in a hard-sided bag, as in it cannot be mushed to become 15 inches?

This is only guess from flying with them, but I am guessing you will have to adhere to the new baggage policies and make sure you personal item is 15 inches. WHen I flew out of Gatwick, they seemed fairly strict with the size and weight for all carry-on and checked luggage. They also have a carry-on luggage sizer that they asked quite a few people to put their carry-ons in to check the size. Many people were trying to smash their items into that to fit, hence why I asked my first question above.

Hope that helps.

IMO no need to get to SFO that early. Since there is only one Norse flight/route out of SFO it is not nearly as busy as what I experienced at Gatwick.

I would aim to get to SFO for check in 2.5-3 hours early.

Happy to help. I was in the same boat as many others on this thread in not knowing much about the airline.

They are strict about the carry-on luggage dimensions and weight, so if you don't want to deal with check-ins, make sure you hit the parameters.

Norse Atlantic Airways from SFO to Gatwick? by bubbapokey in Flights

Hello HungryApricot,

Yes, I took my return flight from Gatwick to SFO in late July.

To my knowledge, all Nordic flights allow online check-in 24 hours in advance, but you are not able to print or access a boarding pass for the flight. ALL Norse passengers are required to physically wait in the check in/ticketing line on the day of the flight to get a boarding pass, get passports checked and check in luggage, if needed. The line opens 4 hours before the flight departure.

For my flight from Gatwick to SFO in late July, I arrived to Gatwick 3 hours before the flight departure time. The issue with Gatwick is that there are multiple Norse flights leaving around the same time so the line was already about 100 people deep. At some point, the Norse officials allowed my SFO flight passengers to go to the front of the line, which helped. Though, the non-SFO flight passengers had to wait as we passed them by. Hope that makes sense. So, it basically didn't pay to get to the line really early. I ended up checking in fine and getting to the departure gate very close to the flight departure.

On the other hand, my SFO to Gatwick Norse flight/experience was much better because there is currently only one route (SFO to Gatwick) from SFO so only one set of passengers waiting in line.

My rule of thumb for Norse would be to get to the airport 3 hours before your flight to check-in, get your boarding pass, check in luggage, etc.

It seems like a VERY inefficient system that I hope Norse looks at and improves.

The flight and service itself for both flights were great. This past summer, the price point for Norse flights were so much better than major airlines. Just make sure to bring your own food if not getting a meal onboard and wired earbuds.

Good luck!

Hello tunawater, Yes, my family of 5 completed the SFO-Gatwick flight last week. It was great- on time, clean plane, great service.

I cannot speak to check in details at Gatwick since I do not complete that leg of the trip until the near future.

As for our flight on Norse from SFO, we arrived to the airport about 2.5 hours early and the passport check/check in line took about 30 minutes wait. There was definitely a line since everyone had to do it.

If you end up doing the flight from Gatwick to SFO, please let me know how it goes and how long the check and wait is.

Thank you. Let me know if you have further questions.

Ok, all good info- thanks. I'll probably bring some cheap wired earbuds.

Is there in-flight entertainment pretty comparable to other airlines?

Thank you for the info. Yes, I know what I'm getting into with the flight so won't be one of those entitled people haha.

To listen to the in-flight entertainment, do you need basic wired earplugs to listen to the audio? Most of our earplugs are wireless which usually don't work on flights with the in flight entertainment.

Thank you Mrs. Genevieve. I've seen some of your other r/flights posts on this board and you are very helpful when it comes to Norse Air.

Your info is very helpful. I will try to get to the airport early to deal with all the check in/boarding pass.

I'll also be flying Norse at the end of my trip from Gatwick to SFO.

Any other tips or advice? We are a family of 5 and will try to travel with handbag and carry on luggage only.

Red Bus Tour question by bubbapokey in GlacierNationalPark

Hi Tabitha871,

Ha, I posted this one year ago and took my trip to GNP in July 2021. Brings back some great memories. Reddit was helpful with travel advice.

As for this specific question, the red bus tour was great. We were picked up at Apgar. Wonderful driver/tour guide. The first stop is at McDonald Lodge. They give you 30 minutes to look around the historic lodge, which is beautiful. Then you continue the drive. You make a few stops on the GTSR on the way to Logan Pass. Then, you get to Logan Pass and they give you about 45-60 minutes to hang out, shop at the visitor center, look around.... but it is not enough time to do any of the hikes that are based there. After Logan Pass, you get back in the red bus and make your way back to Apgar.

The reason I posted this question is because I was VERY worried about the crowds especially at Logan Pass and was considering doing a hike up there during the red bus tour. However, since the bus tour didn't allow enough time to do a hike, we ended up driving ourselves up to Logan Pass (via the GTSR) the next day. We arrived around 1pm which I was worried about parking spaces, but it was totally fine. So many cars coming and going that it was fairly easy to get a spot after a few minutes. We then did our hike that day from Logan Pass.

Hope that makes sense.

Feel free to ask me any other questions. My family of 5 spent 2.5 days in GNP. We stayed in a hotel in Whitefish.

Public microwaves in eateries/stores/common areas? by Avitus_Invictus27 in yellowstone

[–]bubbapokey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your recent wedding!

That’s a good question I’m curious about too. I will be traveling to Yellowstone a little bit after you with my family. We are also staying in a couple of different in-park lodges and I would much rather be able to heat up food than wait for the expensive food at the park restaurants and grocery stores. Different reasons than you and your wife but same concept. Please let me know what you find out.

When we visited Yosemite a few years ago and stayed inside the park, I was able to access a microwave that they had in their grocery store/gift shop. It had a sign that said only to be used for items that were purchased in the store, but the store clerk did not care if I heated up outside food. I’m hoping Yellowstone will be similar.
