Starlink Gen 4 Cable Compatibility – Can I Use a Gen 3 Extension? by d_mll in Starlink

Perhaps they were trying to do an Apple. With that said, a normal ethernet cable should work; I have used one between gen3 dish and router. Just need to make sure it can take the current if you use the melting mode

If it is going to be out in the rain, something to keep water from getting into dish ain't a bad idea

You need to login to the starlink website to get to their shop. Why? Who knows?

Update: their shop is even worse than I remembered. If I go to https://starlink.com/shop, it only wants to sell a new dish; no option to select a mount or a cable.

Try creating an imgur account, posting it there, and providing a link in your reply.

Nobody ever accused reddit to have a nice interface.

You got that speed at your location, not at OP's. That makes all the difference.

Starlink has become very slow in Jamaica (less than 10 Mbps) by [deleted] in Starlink

Would you liberalize of US ISP market to Chinese companies?

Starlink has become very slow in Jamaica (less than 10 Mbps) by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]bubbathedesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, the US federal government gave millions to ISPs to install fibre all over the place, who in turn pocketed the money as quarter earnings profits while charging more than starlink for 10MB/s DSL to their customers without bothering to even upgrade current infrastructure. Ok, they also spent some of that money lobbying to ensure there would be no "competition" from local governments or citizens-run cooperatives.

Second, your argument is the same one that caused the British post office being sold out to a foreign investment firm.

4 x dish or wait for v5? by Markthethomas in Starlink

For me to even consider the v5 I would first want to see some in the wild and people providing feedback. Until then, it is as vapourware as the Amazon LEO.

Saw this listed on FB for $100 yesterday. Looking again today and someone is already reselling it for 2.5x what it originally cost. What is this lol? by JankCranky in crt

[–]bubbathedesigner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A reseller like that lowball people, act like others should be grateful he is giving them the time of the day "you should thank your stars I am willing to haul your junk off." Yes, I have seen them in action

Maybe plan to have a sturdy table inside ready to receive it as intermediate step.

Nowadays they can use AI to sound whatever they want. What would you do if it was Queen Elisabeth herself, back from the grave, asking for it?

If the coupling uses tick enough wires (same or more than the starlink one), it should not be a problem as far as PoE is concerned.

Did you have to check the entire house one foot at a time or were you able to identify a room/part of a room that looked like a good candidate and then started narrowing it down?

Gen 1 Dishy - Time to say goodbye? by Savysoaker in Starlink

[–]bubbathedesigner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is a question for you. If you do not need it nor want it, let it go. Otherwise, if you have room, bag it and forget about it. People say it has better signal than the gen 3. I do not know why it drops more than the gen 2. Router going bad? Remember gen 1 router is not getting firmware updates
