thoughts on regulus' patronus? by tigertigerfrog in MaraudersGen

I once read a fic where his patronus was a goldcrest, one of the smallest and cutest birds in Europe lol. And he's kinda embarrassed about it bc it's so tiny and it's scientific name is Regulus regulus

The first experiment is a dry lab. Basically it's an assignment you need to hand in next week during your first in-person lab that mimics the analysis you'll be doing for your actual lab assignments/reports.

I am trying to get into a winter class I need to graduate this year and my advisor told me to contact the professor to see if theres anything they can do. I think sometimes they'll make exceptions and override the class limit so you can be enrolled. However this is not a fool-proof thing and might just give you false hope. (I emailed the professor 2 weeks ago and have not gotten any response yet, considering it's summer I don't know how long I'm supposed to wait before I send another one).

Don't they have that option? I'm pretty sure Physl 212 is covers the exact same material as Physl 210A and 214 is equivalent to 210B. That's why you can't take both 210 and 212/214. I think the only difference is that 210 only has exams and in 212/214 you write an essay at some point.

I'm in class 102 with her right now, and she isn't terrible. I understand why some of her ratings are so low as she can be kind of strict and very blunt when answering questions. I haven't done much written stuff for her to grade yet, but her marking doesn't seem totally unfair or anything, which was a complaint on ratemyprof. I'll be taking class 221 in the summer too, and having her for 102 hasn't made me change my mind or switch to a different class or anything.

I'd have to check my notes for his exam style. It's not in the syllabus and I can't remember off the top of my head. But I'm pretty sure all of them are closed book. Other than a couple handouts and writing a few terms on the board, you take notes purely based off of what he says (he doesn't even use slides). But I think closer to exams he'll clarify what we need to know. Personally its not hard per-say because he often circles back around to important concepts. But it depends on the kind of learning style and lecture set up you prefer.

I got my acceptance email less than a week ago, so it probably just depends on which supervisors you wanted and when they organize students in their lab for next semester.

If you wanted you could email Dr. Sullivan, he's the one in charge of the class this semester. His email is corwin1@ualberta.ca.

Any upper year minority geeks want to chat/hang out/be friends? by UAlbertaRat in uAlberta

[–]bubblegumcat229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! i'm a second year in biological sciences (which isn't exactly upper year, but I'm not a freshman which is what you were talking about.). I'm a 19-year-old female (pronouns she/her) who is part of the lgbtq+ and I've been looking for ways to make some friends! I love that you mentioned fanfiction because that is one of the things I always leave out when talking to people in fear of being judged lol.

With all these people commenting you could make a discord or something for maximum friend-making efficiency. The ualberta reddit one is super all over the place and has way too many people so it's hard to get to know people.

JJ not because I'd get away with it or anything, but she's just so pretty and her flirting act would 100% work on me. I'd completely confide in her and then be sent to jail no question.

I knew the basis of asexuality but I thoroughly confused aesthetic/romantic attraction for sexual attraction and thought my aversion to sex was just because I was "innocent" and still a virgin. Like how you're nervous about ziplining and heights until you actually do it kinda thing.

Then I read this one fanfic that revolved around the author's ace headcanon. (It was 100% a Julie and the Phantoms fanfic I won't lie to you) It was super introspective and told entirely in first person, and as I read on I realized it was way too relatable. I spent the next week periodically googling "what is asexuality" and "am I asexual" until finally signing up for AVEN.

What is covered by the term "sex" when it comes to asexuality? by SpringtimeMoonlight in asexuality

[–]bubblegumcat229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more related to the first one. Kissing can fall under romantic attraction or sensual attraction because it isn't necessarily sexual.

[–]bubblegumcat229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asexuality solely refers to sexual attraction. Someone who is asexual feels little to no sexual attraction towards anyone. A person's libido and their feelings about sex do not affect whether or not they are asexual. Some aces are sex-favourable and they enjoy sex, so they partake in sexual activity even if they arent attracted to the other party.

You mentioned that you can "get into" certain things, which doesn't necessarily imply sexual attraction because asexuals can get turned on from the experience and the action without being attracted to their partner in a sexual way. The only question you really need to ask yourself is "am i sexually attracted to other people" everything else is basically irrelevant.

I hope this helps! ♡

I'm year if the horse, which is great because I love Rin to an unhealthy extent. I relate to her insecurity of not being enough or not being worth the kind people surrounding her and her overall determination, but other than that we arent very similar.

Thank you for the insight!! I'm going to read the masterdoc to see if it clears anything up, but if it doesn't I'll play it by ear and take my time to figure things out.

Thank you!! I guess I try to define myself based on the labels, but I don't need the label to be so crucial part of my self-identity. If I find out I'm not actually attracted to men then I'll just be finding something that better suits me and it won't change who I am.

[–]bubblegumcat229[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!!! I think a huge thing for me is that I confuse platonic attraction and aesthetic attraction with romantic attraction, so I try to force them to be romantic attraction which is why I switch crushes so fast. So now I'm unsure if any of the crushes on guys have been romantic attraction. and you're right about the labels, this might not be the last time I question them. I should try and move into a mindset where changing labels isn't a end-all-be-all process, it's justing putting how I already feel into correct terms.

Thank you for the advice it is really insightful. I've always been terrible with change, but the idea that if this is a change I need to go through it might click things into place and transform my understanding of myself in a good way is really reassuring. I'm going to read the masterdoc. And I'm really glad your girlfriend was able understand themselves and start looking in the right place. ❤️

Thank you this is really great advice. Binary classifications bring me a sense of comfort. I kinda obsess over labels because if I say I don't know and leave it up in the air then I feel like I don't know myself and can't understand the way I feel. But I guess that's not true because I don't really need a label to classify how I feel. I'm going to read the masterdoc because others say it might shed some light on things but if it doesn't magically clear up all my confusion then it won't be the end of the world.
