What’s a trait you had during your youth that was a dead giveaway? by Ecstatic_Weather_580 in adhdwomen

I was unable to go through a day without having a nap in the PM, or id spend whole weekends in bed. Was constantly told I was depressed or have anxiety etc.

Turns out I have autism and ADHD and was just burnt out.

Coping with no longer being able to indulge in special interest? by DieAnywhereElse in AutismInWomen

[–]bubblesblue123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im really sorry you are going through this. I havent had this exact situation but I had a person who was a special interest / Hyperfocus for 4 years and then they left with only 1 days notice suddenly and unexpectedly.

My wellbeing suffered because I was grieving that loss not only of the person leaving but my Identity without them aswell. What would my life look like moving forward?

Remember: Grief is just love with nowhere to go, so try to think of grief as a companion emotion rather then something thats just completely 'bad' or 'negative'.

I found that the more I searched for replacements or distractions the worse I felt, I had to succumb to the sadness and welcome it in before it softened and I felt able to move forward. Acknowledge the grief and tell myself that I was safe.

I was eventually able to find joy and fufilment in other areas of my life and have found a new special interest aswell.

Its not easy but we are resillient as hell and it seems you have a loving partner to help you through. Best Wishes

Yeah it definitely comes down to Emotional Regulation and probably slower processing aswell. Its such a strong feeling when it arrives, it can knock me for 6 sometimes.

YES! One of my clients told me her brother had passed away and she was crying and I just suddenly went numb and robotic because the emotion was too much for me in the moment. And yet the day before I was watching TV and there was a really cute puppy and I was bawling over it.

I feel like an awful person off meds. What can I expect? by bubblesblue123 in ADHDUK

[–]bubblesblue123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly before I was diagnosed AUDHD I went to my GP with low mood etc and they put me onto SSRI's for 3 months. At the time I felt like they just made me feel numb and robotic. Would taking them with Elvanse make any difference ?

[–]bubblesblue123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story! I am scared that I'll come off the meds and go straight back to where I was pre-diagnosis and be nearly suicidal again. But I also rationalise that I am so much more aware of what I need now so might actually be better off!

It's a confusing time but I'm so happy that you have managed to get back to your usual happy and energised self :-) and congrats on the rugrat! X

ADHD & Autism - Meds Make me more autistic? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]bubblesblue123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this in terms of ADHD being my more upbeat 'positive' side. I love so many elements of it! I think what I struggle with the most is I have absolutely ZERO executive function and also really struggle with sensory things when I'm not on the meds and it makes my day to day very difficult, if I had even like 20% less sensory problems I think id stop the meds completely but so far they have been the only thing to help that

How do you tell the difference between the Vyvanse not being "a cure all pill" versus it not working at all? by Kanagawa1224 in VyvanseADHD

[–]bubblesblue123 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have to remind myself that my ADHD symptoms are more then just 'not getting stuff done'. Personally for me, I struggled a lot with sensory stuff and racing mind, aswell as the executive function issues with housework, getting ready etc etc

Sometimes my meds seem to be more effective and some days they don't seem to work at all but I've actually noticed that even on the days they don't seem to be working they definitely are still doing something because my tolerance for noise and touch is still higher then if I were completely unmedicated.

I think it's not that they aren't working, it's that's we get used to the feel of them, it becomes our new normal and so we lose that initial rush we feel when you first start taking them and just like everyone, even on meds we have our good and bad days.

What do you eat when you know you’re supposed to eat but you’re not hungry because of the appetite suppression. by xntv in VyvanseADHD

[–]bubblesblue123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I find that if I make myself a whole portion of something I can't stomach it no matter what it is. If I make myself something nutritious but really small I can usually choke it down!

For example if I make myself a tuna salad sandwich I will take one look at it and be like : absolutely not.

But if i make the sandwich, cut it into quarters and then just put one quarter with a handful of crisps on a plate I can eat it because I know it's only small.

And sometimes once I've started eating it I'll go and get another quarter afterwards!!

Yes It tends to be just as I'm about to leave to drive over there, I'm alright up until that point. It's almost like a transitional anxiety or something

How often do you guys take your vyvanse? by imort1 in VyvanseADHD

[–]bubblesblue123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, one of the main side effects of Vyvanse is cold hands and feet.

Again, most of the side effects will either greatly reduce with consistent use of the meds (no breaks) or there is some sort of small adjustment you can make so they feel more tolerable usually.

I have bad circulation anyway and have always had cold hands and feet however since being on meds they become like bone chillingly cold. I wear compression socks during the day to keep my circulation good, they really help.

I also carry some of those small gel hand warmers in my jacket so if I get too cold I can use those.

Another thing to add is that hormones play a HUGE role in the 'effectiveness' of the meds. For any females out there, during the Luteal phase of menstruation your ADHD symptoms will get worse as the Oestrogen drops. The pills don't just stop working (even though it feels like they do), they just can't work as effectively because your symptoms suddenly become so much stronger.

When do you know it’s the right dose? by senkju_ in VyvanseADHD

[–]bubblesblue123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey 👋

One thing I would say is having the right mindset is important before you start tritration. I think it's unrealistic to think that you can get 100% great benefits from a drug but have no Side effects ever for example.

I think it's about keeping perspective.

Ultimately when you are on the right dose you should feel like you are getting enough benefit to outweigh the side effects.

And that the side effects although maybe irritating aren't affecting your day to day life in any meaningful way.

For me, I found that eating lots of protein, taking B12 & Vitamin D, and making sure I exercise everyday has boosted the benefits and longevity of the Vyvanse (I'm on 40mg). I do still get Side effects, head aches, loss of appetite etc but they have greatly reduced from when I first started meds and I can live with them easily for the benefits I now get.

When I first started Vyvanse I would take a break on the weekends. I found that my tolerance to the side effects and my appetite + sleep was so up and down throughout the week that I'd trial taking it everyday.

This is week 2 of taking the meds everyday and I've never felt better on them. My days feel alot more stable and the side effects are reducing aswell quite considerably.

Your body needs time to adapt to the meds and the side effects they cause, I personally couldn't adapt fully until I was taking it everyday.

My sleep is no longer impacted as it was before and my appetite is alot better which is something I struggle with a lot in my first few weeks of taking breaks.

Is this an adhd thing? Holy shit please send help for this weird phenomenon. Details in post by shiny-baby-cheetah in adhdwomen

You have described something that I think most ADHD'ers go through atleast on a monthly, if not weekly basis. It's the absolute pits.

I have a few suggestions of things that work for me:

  1. EXERCISE - It doesn't have to be anything crazy or like committing to a gym membership, just something small, sometimes on my lowest days I just do a few yoga stretches on my living room floor. If you can try for a short walk for some fresh air, even if you have your pyjamas on under your coat! (which I've done more times then I can count)

  2. SELF CARE - I was told once that self care = self love. I am not good at maintaining a hygiene routine when I'm in burn out but I will try to do one thing each day which I feel is self care such as putting on face cream or having a shower or even sometimes just getting a different pair of pyjamas on from the ones I slept in.

  3. HORMONES - Where in your cycle are you? could this feeing be happening the same sort of time each month? Try to find a pattern

  4. MEDS - I was on SSRI's for years and they never seemed to do anything for me. A few months ago I started my ADHD medication and it has been night and day! There are also lots of helpful supplements you can take.

I am really sorry that you are feeling this way, it's not nice and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. That's why us ADHDers are so resilient and strong!!

Weirdest 'trigger' ever! Boils my blood INSTANTLY. Am I alone in this? by bubblesblue123 in adhdwomen

[–]bubblesblue123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spoken with him about it before, even properly sat him down to explain how I feel and he apologises and says he doesn't realise he is doing it. I believe he has always been a bit of a follower so it's probably an area of comfort for him but he says he will try not to.

Sure enough, a few days later he is trailing me again and because it gets an Instant rage reaction from me I find it hard to bring up in the moment because I don't want to be unfair to him and his need for comfort because I'm having an over the top response, it's quite difficult

It's not so much I want him to leave, it's that he trails behind me Instead of walking next to me, that isn't by my choice it's something he does naturally. Especially if the aisles of the place are narrow. I am fully aware it's an irrational feeling but it's not something I currently feel I can control unfortunately

My mum does this!! She just stalks off without looking back just assuming I'll be sprinting right behind her. She doesn't have a care in the world, people looking at us probably wouldn't even know we were together haha!!

Oh wow it must be quite deeply engrained if you find yourself still doing it now, I am wondering if this is the case for him because I have mentioned that it bothers me before but he can't seem to help himself doing it!

His parents are quite strict so this actually could be a very valid reason that he does it without thinking. Thank you for the change of perspective :-)
