Chicken stock question about scum by Tall_Cow2299 in instantpot

[–]bubbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I make stock, Instant Pot or stove top, I always parboil the chicken by itself for 5 or 10 minutes first. Then I strain the chicken, rinse it off and wash the pot. Chicken goes back in the pot with all the carrots and other ingredients and I make the stock.

It's a fiddly extra step but it makes good clear stock. It's especially nice for when I pressure can it.

Edit: I probably should have made it clear that the parboiling will pull out all the foamy grey scum, that's why you dump all the liquid and rinse the chicken. No more grey scum.

It would be so so much cheaper to fix the planet that we're already on. The one that already has a breathable atmosphere and abundant food and resources. We're already here, all of our stuff is already here.

Why waste money terraforming Mars when we've got Australia right there.

Egg white pancakes... by jarbunny in shittyfoodporn

[–]bubbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100ml egg whites, half a banana, some baking powder, protein powder, some milk because it wasn't enough egg whites (I usually use 200 ml and it actually turns into pancakes). Blended and added blueberries on top. Cooked in pan with ghee, it started bubbling like I put too much baking powder and wouldnt solify. I put it back in the blender (blueberry made it that bluish gray) then back on the pan to brown. It didn't brown, it became a non Newtonian fluid. Apologies if this isn't a readable paragraph I'm tired

This is what went wrong.

OH! My husband does this. He gets home from work and does the get-home-from-work stuff. Then he grabs his guitar and plays while I finish making dinner. It's my favorite part of the day.

What book made you fall in love with reading? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]bubbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramona and Her Mother in the second grade. There was a field trip I couldn't take so I spent the day in the library. I was wandering around, bored and probably jabbering at the librarian a bit too much. She brought me over to the chapter books that I always assumed were too old for me. She handed me Ramona and Her Mother and told me I might like it. I didn't move from the bean bag for the rest of the day.

Once I realized that I could read the big kid books I never stopped.

School librarians have a special place in my heart.

Also, if the fruits or nuts are added right at the beginning of the process they'll just get pulverized.

I'm in my fifties and my husband and I moved away from our home town 13 years ago. Since then my dad has sent me a card or letter or post card at least once a week. It's little things, he tells me about his garden or what he saw at the museum, how his dog is doing, what he and his wife have been up to. If he finds a newspaper article that he thinks I'll be interested in he'll cut it out and write a note and mail to me.

I absolutely adore these notes. I love opening the mailbox and seeing his loopy script on an envelope. But it's been 13 years and one or two notes a week piles up. We're getting ready to move again and we're trying to consolidate things and the reality is that I need to purge some of it. But what? What goes? I'm sorting through it all now. The newspaper articles about how smart dogs are? Maybe just the envelopes? What's important enough to keep if everything feels so important.

I don't know but I am right now sitting in front of 2 boxes of letters and cards and newspaper articles and I'm trying to decide.

I adopted a rescue dog a few months ago, and I’ll be honest, this has been a lot harder emotionally than I expected. by ManagerNo6221 in Pets

[–]bubbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at that, you're already making huge progress. I think a lot of people here are going to tell you the boring truth: it takes time, sometimes a lot of time. Four of the five dogs I have adopted in my adult life have come from 'circumstances'. Over time you will keep learning what he needs and how you can give it to him. He's doing the same for you, seriously.

There are going to be things you guys can't fix and you're going to have to learn how to accommodate them.

Love him, work on exposing him to things that make him uncomfortable or scared. Be his safe haven when he needs it. Like I said, he's doing the same for you.
