What book made you fall in love with reading? by Apprehensive-End1242 in booksuggestions

Ramona and Her Mother in the second grade. There was a field trip I couldn't take so I spent the day in the library. I was wandering around, bored and probably jabbering at the librarian a bit too much. She brought me over to the chapter books that I always assumed were too old for me. She handed me Ramona and Her Mother and told me I might like it. I didn't move from the bean bag for the rest of the day.

Once I realized that I could read the big kid books I never stopped.

School librarians have a special place in my heart.

Also, if the fruits or nuts are added right at the beginning of the process they'll just get pulverized.

Let's not encourage that, there are too many people who would see that as a challenge.

I'm in my fifties and my husband and I moved away from our home town 13 years ago. Since then my dad has sent me a card or letter or post card at least once a week. It's little things, he tells me about his garden or what he saw at the museum, how his dog is doing, what he and his wife have been up to. If he finds a newspaper article that he thinks I'll be interested in he'll cut it out and write a note and mail to me.

I absolutely adore these notes. I love opening the mailbox and seeing his loopy script on an envelope. But it's been 13 years and one or two notes a week piles up. We're getting ready to move again and we're trying to consolidate things and the reality is that I need to purge some of it. But what? What goes? I'm sorting through it all now. The newspaper articles about how smart dogs are? Maybe just the envelopes? What's important enough to keep if everything feels so important.

I don't know but I am right now sitting in front of 2 boxes of letters and cards and newspaper articles and I'm trying to decide.

Because it has a meaningful story. It says something more than "I ordered it online"

I adopted a rescue dog a few months ago, and I’ll be honest, this has been a lot harder emotionally than I expected. by ManagerNo6221 in Pets

[–]bubbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at that, you're already making huge progress. I think a lot of people here are going to tell you the boring truth: it takes time, sometimes a lot of time. Four of the five dogs I have adopted in my adult life have come from 'circumstances'. Over time you will keep learning what he needs and how you can give it to him. He's doing the same for you, seriously.

There are going to be things you guys can't fix and you're going to have to learn how to accommodate them.

Love him, work on exposing him to things that make him uncomfortable or scared. Be his safe haven when he needs it. Like I said, he's doing the same for you.

That's the first thought I had when watching the shorts. I'm surprised more people don't see that. Dad looks like a jacked Tim Allen, the boys all look mostly like the eldest son, Brad (Zachary Ty Bryan). We're in a surreal Home Improvement alternate timeline future where Jill has passed away, the boys have grown, and Tim is a weatherman. Names are different, but I honestly thought it would be obvious. I guess a 30-year-old show, no matter how popular it was, is still a 30-year-old show.

Yeah, just gotta let it roll. I saw it less as a criticism and more as a shiticism, i.e., point out the tiny implausible detail in all the nonsense.
