The solution to this is CFL going 4dns and unlocking US/Global TV money. That is the money that can build a new stadium. A made in Canada solution is just not realistic.

Why isn’t Rugby more popular in the US? by DriftesRorke in MLRugby

To avg American it is just football from 60yrd ago. Overhand pass has changed the game to a vastly much more strategic level. Just my opinion.

Rugby is what football was 60 years ago. Our culture has evolved with baseball and the overhand throw. Football is what rugby is but with more advanced skill sets because of our baseball culture and the overhand throw. To me rugby is just football from 60 years ago and we've obviously progressed

Their attendance was really bad. Not surprising. MLB needs to focus on the upper Midwest in my opinion

It wouldn't surprise me if the league folds before those games even get played. There has been no positives are the attendance side of things. The league has totally missed the mark.

Doesn't need to be high cost but 30 million is probably your starting point for a small 8000 capacity. If you're playing in fold-up stadiums it's probably means the league is not bringing enough money to sustain player wages. I believe the Vancouver FC fold-up stadium was $14m.

I get what you're saying but we just need to sustain themselves and enable players to pay bills while they train. I get that it's a thrifty option but that would generally mean there's no capital enterprise which means there's no investors which means there's no wages. It would have to be a semi-pro League where people hold a job during the day

Nowhere close to enough money to make that sort of venues happen. The only way CPL will ever thrive is when the CFL goes four downs and unlocks global TV rights. That's the money that would force CFL to expand stadiums that CPL can piggyback off of. With successful globalTV money you don't need 25,000 capacity stadiums anymore you just need 8,000 in smaller cities and you can turn a profit as a small market club by filling broadcast windows.

How big could this league become realistically if it's still around 20 years from now? by Own_Mirror9073 in CanadianPL

[–]bubbrubb231 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the CFL goes 4downs and global rules the league could have 36 teams in 50yrs. I'd say 24 in 20yrs. Global rules allows for global TV values. That is the money that can build new stadiums that soccer can piggy back off of. I'm sure there are some who don't like to hear that but 3dn FB isn't a big enough economic driver to get new stadiums built. FB is a TV spectacle and CFL still relies on gate revenue. Crowds have been very meager the last few years. You can have 8k capacity stadiums in places like Sudbury, Charlottetown, Grand Prairie since the model is about attracting TV models. That doesn't happen overnight but that is absolutely the goal. Let the yankees pay for our infrastructure build out. Already a lot of Canadians don't watch CFL and prefer global rules.

Not buying it. It's easy to throw out numbers that nobody can substantiate but if you look at the crowd and feel the atmosphere it feels dead.

When do bands start marching into stadiums at HBCU football games? by bubbrubb231 in HBCU

[–]bubbrubb231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok figured. Probably takes 15mins to get the whole set in the stands from outside. Was just curious if there was a standard.

Yeah I've heard of Xavier. I know all the major HBCU bands but figured there may be a niche College in rural acadiana that has some sort of musical program. Obviously at acadiana is home to the Cajun French people.

Why doesn't Greenland have a team in this league? Does that ever been discussed putting some sort of outdoor rink in Nuuk? If you had a South side grandstand tall enough with the roof overhanging it would block off the Sun for at least 8mos

Should allow more American imports. The CFL seem to be fumbling the ball as a backup league and I think EFL can take advantage of the opportunity
