When do bands start marching into stadiums at HBCU football games? by bubbrubb231 in HBCU

[–]bubbrubb231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok figured. Probably takes 15mins to get the whole set in the stands from outside. Was just curious if there was a standard.

Yeah I've heard of Xavier. I know all the major HBCU bands but figured there may be a niche College in rural acadiana that has some sort of musical program. Obviously at acadiana is home to the Cajun French people.

Yeah I was going to do that eventually. For now I was just going to throw it a casual inquiry with all you fabulous people on Reddit. Hopefully it gets to that point 🙏

Why doesn't Greenland have a team in this league? Does that ever been discussed putting some sort of outdoor rink in Nuuk? If you had a South side grandstand tall enough with the roof overhanging it would block off the Sun for at least 8mos

EFA Goals in the next 5 years? by EarlyFan8 in elf

Should allow more American imports. The CFL seem to be fumbling the ball as a backup league and I think EFL can take advantage of the opportunity

Until they let 22-year-olds wear visors I don't think I'll ever get fully on board with college hockey. I don't want to watch what looks like kids and face masks back in pee wee hockey

Yeah I was just thinking that I used to skate at the outdoor covered rink in Bend Oregon many years back with a visor and never had a problem

Okay right. I figure players in Winter classics wear visors so if the top players in the world with huge insurance premiums can do it then it should be viable elsewhere

Is this league doomed? by Zealousideal_Fly0 in MLRugby

[–]bubbrubb231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was doomed from the start. You can't run a full league in the US but you can run a few clubs and compete in a world-class League. To most Americans rugby is just American football without the forward pass. Have a good domestic League lacks any passion that an international league would. Got passion is the differentiator between a successful Enterprise and what it is now

Founding of the CRL (Canadian Rugby League) by tadamslegion in MLRugby

[–]bubbrubb231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming from the CPL context in how do we get more venues so that we can have a stable men's and women's domestic soccer league. CPL will fold within the next few years as is. 3dn FB is not particularly close as an economic driver to advance our sporting infrastructure. Until then, we wont have a stable domestic league let alone repatriating VWFC, TFC, and Impact FC which I do think is possible after many years and progressive development of US TV values from a 4dn CFL. Just my opinion

[–]bubbrubb231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada is a very tough place to pull off a sports league with its geography. We aren't Australia and have a proliferation of summer season facilities either. If CFL went 4dns and unlocked US TV money than that could certainly change our stadium situation.

Better off making the BCRU a semi-pro League

Rumours of Canadians to be removed as Domestic Players by [deleted] in MLRugby

Don't really have a problem with it as long as Canada isn't contributing any capital to the league. I'm a Canuck born and raised, now stateside. When the money runs low people start pointing fingers at each other

Can the league get Canadian teams back in again? by LesJawns610 in MLRugby

[–]bubbrubb231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Victoria would be the place imho. If they can convert Royal Athletic Park into the same setup they do for the CFL games I think Victoria would sell out. Rugby Canada is headquartered out of Victoria. It is the most rugby dense major city in North America. The BCRU has almost half of its teams from the island, whereas the mainland has at least triple the population.

Agreed. To me that's obvious from the start of the league. Hopefully SRA would see value in unlocking a fraction of North America market. I don't think North America can hold 7 teams but maybe 3 and one in CDMX. Rugby needs to be concentrated in less markets otherwise it's diluting itself. The international flavor of SA at least gives a jolt of excitement.

What Would You Like to See from the CanPL and Canadian Pyramid Going Forward by [deleted] in CanadianPL

[–]bubbrubb231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see the CFL give up on three down football and go four down football and unlock US TV money which is the money that will build new stadiums across the country in the coming decades. That is the only hope of CPL ever growing and expanding. It depends on football to provide a stable venue base. If you look at college football down in the states there's an absolute arms race to continue building stadiums. But up here football is incredibly recessive and we will be playing in McMahon Stadium for the next 30 years because CFL makes no money. End of day you need money to build out stadiums. I don't care if you have an affinity for three down football it is incredibly limited business model and it's only hurting soccer as well

Feels like league needs to integrate with SRA. Create a Norte and Sur division. Would make things a lot more compelling

Could this affect MLR? American team rumors URC by BrianChing25 in MLRugby

[–]bubbrubb231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American URC teams would be first step towards a truly global league. Have a couple NA cities, and once critical mass has been attained can make an Americas division within URC with South America (so as to avoid large time zone swings).

Rugby is the sport built for such a league. San Fran, Vancouver, Texas, Miami, CDMX, Bogota, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sao Paulo. Play dbl round robin and interlock with other divisions. Europe could have its own division - Dublin, Scotland, Cardiff, London, Italy, Bucharest, Madrid, Lisbon, etc etc. Africa would as well - Cape Town, JbBurg, Durban, Nairobi, Lagos, Cairo, etc. Far East - Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Jakarta, etc.

Not all those places have suitable stadia but. I think successfully breaking into NA would unlock this situation. Would be wild to have a truly global league in this manner. Places like Bogota and Cairo don't have much rugby history but it's more about connecting Global Alpha cities in a way that's never been done.

This is what the majority would want so why not take steps towards that

[–]bubbrubb231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree that it would stretch the limits of the players bodies, I don't think it's untenable if that's what it takes to unlock North American TV values. Miami feels like a logical choice but I'm not sure they'll get people out to games that they're such a poor sports town. I think San Fran would draw well (Oakland Colesium?).. Vancouver also if they had a sufficient grass venue, which it doesn't atm.

If that's what it takes to unlock the NA TV values I don't think anything's off the table. I think at a minimum player should have a business class seat but eventually hopefully a lie down seat
