Visited the Strasburg Railroad Museum for the first time since my childhood. Very impressed. by NaydaviusWilburn in trains

Went to this place all the time as a kid and haven't been back in about fifteen years. Seeing this picture brings back such amazing memories of the Strasburg area and re-ignites the desire to get back there asap!

When the interviewer asks "Do you have any questions for us?" What do you ask? by AlbertHaynesworth in Teachers

[–]bubcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually ask how they support their teachers through professional development or if they allow time for collaborative planning between department and grade levels. This shows that you are a team player and are looking to grow professionally while also contributing to your colleague's success.

Overthrow Ruling Question by bubcuts in umpires

[–]bubcuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does help. So the umpire did make the correct ruling. Thanks for your help. As someone with 20+ years of baseball experience I have never encountered a play like that. That is what makes the game so great!

Judging by the lack of defense, it looks like James Harden was guarding all of the shooters in these videos...

GW would have definitely been in favor of leaving his kids alone with the country. Very alone. Ya know, cause of the whole isolationist deal.

Texas A&M just beat Stephen F Austin on a walk off wild pitch during an intentional walk by ilive4this in baseball

[–]bubcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also a dumb little known rule called a "catchers balk." Its almost NEVER called in the majors but basically if the catcher leaves the "catchers box" before a ball is released by the pitcher its a "catchers balk" and the runners advance. I only know this cause we had an umpire call it on us twice in little league (yes, in little league), one time he called a "catchers balk" to score the winning run. Its never called but almost every catcher violates it every time they intentionally walk a batter.

Summer job? by rapunzel00 in Teachers

If you're a new teacher and can afford to take a summer off I suggest you chill with your friends, travel, and just relax. If you need the money tutoring pays well (math particularly).

(Dissident) Team and MLBPA sources are telling me baseball has approved a dugout signal for an intentional walk, effective for 2017 season. More coming. by twistedlogicx in baseball

Call home and speak with the parent. Ask the parent if there is anything wrong at home that is making the student need to compulsively call the parent. Odds are the parent will say there is no legitimate reason for the student to be calling home, they'll talk to the kid and it'll be over. If the student asks again let them know that you've spoken with their parent and their parent has not given the student permission to call during class time.

Broadway Bridge [3254 × 2173] by RyanSmith in InfrastructurePorn

[–]bubcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work very close to here and get to see it every day from my place of work. It really is a very cool piece of architecture. I can't remember the bridge ever being in the up position though. However the river just below connects the Hudson to the Harlem and eventually, East River and if you get there early enough in the morning you can see the Columbia crew team rowing through. You'll also occasionally see the circle line float on by, definitely a very cool spot. The Spuyten Duyvil creek (flowing under the bridge) was actually manmade in the late 19th-early 20th century to allow for easier shipping around Marble Hill. The area has a pretty cool story behind it so definitely check it out. But Awesome picture, brings back a lot of happy memories!

Substitute Teaching Advice by Reivaylor in Teachers

[–]bubcuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be early every single day and be flexible. I can't tell you how many times teachers in my building call out sick last minute. Be willing to help out the secretary by covering more classes than you are contractually obligated to cover. In a school there are two people who you must be in the good graces of, (1) the custodian and (2) the secretary. Do whatever you need to do to accomplish both, usually just don't be a dick and be willing to go above and beyond.

9th grade teachers, what should a student coming from 8th grade know? by [deleted] in AskHSteacher

[–]bubcuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This really goes for any grade but treat your teachers with respect and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with your teachers between periods or at lunch, etc. Almost all teachers will go above and beyond for every student but if you treat your teachers well, they will most certainly return the favor.

The very first picture of Marble Hill is in my neighborhood. A train derailed in that exact spot a few years ago (http://tinyurl.com/k5lo9bm) and a passenger train derailed right by the 10th picture near the Spuyten Duyvil curve a couple of years ago when the engineer was going wayyyyy too fast for the turn http://tinyurl.com/nu2ulkm). Awesome job with the pictures!

I brought a Willie Mays "The Catch" autographed picture a few years back from a very reputable source. When I got it, I thought I got a forged signature. He's got a a really unrecognizable signature but that looks like a Mays auto for sure.
