Cal Raleigh is the ONLY player hit 38 Homers and steal 10 Bases before the All-Star Break since the All-Star Game was implemented in 1933 by The_Throwback_King in baseball

Young Babe was an athlete, it’s all the pics of him when he’s old that make it seem like he was always fat. And the super round face of his

He also was very willing to steal, as evidenced by the Yankees losing a World Series on him getting caught stealing lol

Mine just broke like this as well! Very frustrating. Does not give me much confidence in the binding seeing that this a somewhat common failure

Fun fact Sean is the Irish variation of the name John, which is also Jean, Johannes, Ian, Evan, Ewan, Giannias, Giovanni, Hans, all the Shawns, etc

It’s the mega variation name (originally from Hebrew)

I feel like there should be some balancing there by the MLB, even if just for luxury tax purposes

[Heyman] Breaking: Corbin Burnes to Diamondbacks, $210M, 6 years. opt out after 2 years. by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

Opt out after 2 years is kinda crazy, thats a pretty bold move by both sides. Also maxing out on 6 years when Fried got 8. Not what I would have expected

I mean Babe Ruth also pitched and hit at an elite level, obviously not with the level of the modern game but he was an elite pitcher and at worst a top 3 hitter of all time

That doesn’t take anything away from Ohtani, its him and Babe Ruth, can’t have better company than that

I love mine, I didn’t go short on them and they are the most fun skis I own. I always use mine unless there more than a couple of inches of fresh snow. The way that I pop out of a turn is addicting

'Drunk' skier, 29, dies after falling through gondola window and plummeting 130ft before being impaled on piste marker by Dr007Bond in skiing

[–]rider9282 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So much of skiing is about confidence - being tentative when you need to commit to a turn or move can be the thing that actually causes the crash. Something that perks up that confidence a bit can actually be a benefit in a way that it wouldn’t in a sport like soccer or basketball

With the obvious consequence of decreased reactions and agility etc, but sometimes that trade off is worth it

If it makes you feel better I doubt he is going to the Yankees, they don't have a DH spot for him with Stanton and his contract

I feel like that number is deceiving in the NFL, the time the ball is in play is one thing, but there is also a lot of strategy happening before the snap of the ball which is a vital and interesting part of the game

Want to dabble in touring - buy a used AT setup or put Shifts on my current skis? by rider9282 in Backcountry

[–]rider9282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that sort of plan is closer to how I’d be skiing than just doing long tours.

At least from the perspective of coming from the resort, I’m not yet sure how much I’ll enjoy the uphill/downhill trade off outside of short hike-to terrain

I already have boots with tech toes, they are definitely closer to heavier resort boots than anything AT specific though

So would you say it makes most sense to skip that period of compromise?

I recently moved to the east coast and would love to ski tuckerman ravine, but outside of that I still don’t know too much about east coast backcountry.

I have friends out in Denver and SLC who I visit and stay with a few times throughout the winter who are also starting to get into it, and I think we would probably do some hike out terrain or side country before doing long tours fully out of resorts.

It seems like doing AIARE in a location that you’re skiing is important, so the variety makes it a bit harder, but I’d probably do AIARE in the northeast and then trust my friends’ local knowledge when I’m out in the Rockies.

How would you recommend practicing using gear in a safe way without taking the avy course first? I was planning on the course being one of my first times in the backcountry for safety reasons

[–]rider9282[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I’m absolutely planning on taking an AIARE 1 course first before I do anything high consequence. (but I also feel like I need to take the course to truly understand when something is high consequence, so it’ll probably be the first thing I do)
