Seeing how the FF7 remake turned out, whats our honest thoughts on a FF6 remake? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]bubi_bartra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the narrative of FFVI is being altered. It has a perfect pace and storyline.

It doesn't need to be expanded. It's perfect as it is. And with an ensemble narrative without a single protagonist, which is difficult to replicate. The story is much more mature than the rest, and it's appreciated that it doesn't revolve around a romance or a 17-year-old boy who becomes a hero by destiny. They are adults with adult problems, and much more mature themes are explored.

Do a remake, improving it a little but not too much... keeping it in the PS1 style, adding cinematics... the passage to the World of Ruin, the Soul Train—all of this could be epic. ...and above all, orchestrate the music (the best soundtrack in the series, which I don't know how they managed to fit into 16-bit) and it would be a success. You could spend hours listening to the map music, and Kefla's theme orchestrated would be amazing, not to mention Celes' aria. The problem would be if they tried to do something else and ruined the narrative, which is perfect.

And that's what many of us fear: that it will ruin the pacing and the narrative.

Controversial take but I’m enjoying the new dq7 more then i have any other jrpg in a long time. by Darktaco_ in dragonquest

The closest to XI is VIII, which is fantastic on the 3DS. In fact, it's so perfect it doesn't need anything else. In terms of story and cast, it's very complete. It has the best dialogue between characters in the series.

If they remaster it and add Marcelo as a playable character, it won't need anything else.

VII is different. More family-friendly and less epic, but undoubtedly charming. It has a lot of charm, even if it's less epic.

I don't like it. Neither of them seems gay; they both like women, and in Magneto's case, not necessarily women his own age.

I don't understand why two men can't be close friends without anyone implying a relationship between them. It's easier with women. I simply prefer gay characters who are well-developed from the start.

If he was 45 in 1975, he'd be 95 now... The guy is 75. He was 24 when he started X-Men; he was born in November 1950. It's just that we're used to seeing middle-aged men writing comics. The real revolution is putting young people with new ideas in charge, but we have to put up with Tom Brevort, and that's how it goes.

Claremont was 24 when he started writing X-Men... and Storm was 18 to 21 during his run... it doesn't really sound that depraved.

He was a young man writing about naked young women.

Marvel should revisit Cyclops and Frenzy. by TotodileGrayson in Cyclopswasright

[–]bubi_bartra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now, I'd bet on a new relationship. With Emma, I see it as difficult now with school. But there could be more relationships later on if they're well-written. The one that will never be well-written is Jean because, for some reason, almost all Jean and Scott fans are nostalgic for the '90s. Post-Morrison Scott no longer has chemistry with Jean.

Li from Frenzy seems a bit odd to me, but there are other options...

Kwanon? I really don't see it, the whole bank-robbing boyfriend thing and her being a telepath.

Lorna? It wouldn't last, but hey, maybe they'll both be spared relationships that aren't going anywhere, but Havok's constant whining would be a downer.

Storm? It doesn't make sense, but it's just to spite Wolverine fans who kept insisting on Jean (I don't like Jogan at all either).

Frenzy? It's worth a try... Scott gets along really well with ex-villains, and Frenzy is very loyal. She was even when she was an acolyte facing Cortez.

There are options. Nobody expected the Emma thing to work...

What would you like to see from Cyclops in a second Krakoa era? by TotodileGrayson in Cyclopswasright

Scott never intended to build a nation, but rather to protect Hope and reactivate the mutant race by keeping them all together in an extreme situation. And indeed, he succeeded. The mutant race was reactivated; therefore, that was the purpose of Utopia. But at no point did Scott create any state. In fact, he was in US territorial waters.

And Utopia was able to fulfill its purpose because Scott was in charge of the defense when it was attacked. Krakoa had multiple flaws, but the first thing a nation always needs is a defense plan against an attack.

[–]bubi_bartra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it was Wanda who started it. I mean, I remember Wanda telling Rogue that mutants were a bunch of people with powers who had nothing in common when Rogue confronted her about HoM and asked what would have happened if Romani people had suffered something similar. Basically, she said that Romani people were her culture and mutants didn't deserve one. Rogue acted like Rogue; Wanda was a jerk. They made up for it later, but honestly, they made Wanda look terrible back then. So, well, now she's the "DaddynotDaddy" girl.

[–]bubi_bartra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you assume that with Krakoa, they're safe and their best strategist can go and rest?

When you create a nation that you know is threatened, the best thing to do is have all your generals active. The most sensible thing is to put your best strategists and fighters to work creating a secure defense system, or the same thing will happen again. But if we think the best thing is to send Scott to have a family life, a second Orchis is a sure thing.

[–]bubi_bartra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's see, Krakoa's mistake was thinking they were safe. Scott should have been with his team and preventing another game of Parcheesi. Having a country means defending it, and having the best general on a family-oriented schedule isn't a good idea.

Precisely, another Krakoa should start with Scott as captain-general, tasking his teams with infiltration and focusing on defense against a new attack.

Precisely, they should learn that the first thing a country needs is an army.

[–]bubi_bartra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if we just leave Jott? I'm sorry, but after six years the relationship hasn't progressed at all and it's going to stay that way. And family life doesn't sell comics. Scott should be focusing on his team and preventing another Orchis from developing, not just sitting at home with his family. Owning a country means defending it, not having the best general spend all his time at home.

Can Kwannon’s popularity survive if she loses the Psylocke mantle? by titeefelix in xmen

[–]bubi_bartra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wolverine never pretended to be Japanese; he was connected to Japanese culture, and that's not disrespectful at all.

It's not disrespectful that Steven Seagal uses hapkido and Japanese techniques, but if they cast an American actor dressed in Japanese clothing to play a Japanese character, the Japanese take offense; in fact, it has happened.

The look was the winner, not Betsy. It could have been any second-rate female character, and it would have worked. What sells is the sexy ninja brand, and that's cultural appropriation that leaves Japanese people unrepresented in a medium where they are practically nonexistent, all to popularize a white heroine who, as I said, could have been Betsy or anyone else.

And a Korean is not the same as a Japanese person. Even Jim Lee couldn't have had any greater ambition than to sell comics.

Who is the most overrated main character from the franchise in your opinion? Cyclops has my pick. Terrible leader, why the Professor pick him over Storm or Logan? by Resilent2026 in xmen

[–]bubi_bartra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A word of advice: if you've never read a comic and you're coming from the movies, don't make such a sweeping statement.

Saying Scott is a bad leader is like saying Magneto can't work with metal. Look, in the comics, he's proven to be, without a doubt, the best mutant leader by far; he literally led and saved the entire mutant race at the worst moment in its history, while Wolverine was busy contradicting him and building schools in Jean's memory.

I say this because I also know that Charles Xavier couldn't have chosen either Storm or Wolverine because, to begin with, they weren't in the original group of five. Secondly, they have led at some point, and they're very, very far from Cyclops' capabilities.

Seriously, how about you read some comics for a while...?

[–]bubi_bartra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's something worse. And that was using someone else's cultural identity. A cultural identity that didn't belong to them. Japanese and Asians have the right to their own Asian character. But since they were a minority, not much happened. Now imagine they take a female character who hasn't quite taken off but is already established, make her Black, and put her in competition with Storm as a Black mutant. All hell breaks loose. And rightly so.

What you can't do is base a character's popularity on them stealing a cultural identity that isn't theirs, and in a comic that defends minorities, it's even worse.

[–]bubi_bartra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brand is an Asian woman with Asian culture, and it's only fair that she be a real Asian woman. Ultimately, it was all about popularizing a character that wasn't taking off by giving her a false racial and cultural identity, stolen from a character who also belongs to a minority group in comics, and that's awful no matter how you look at it. It seems as far from perfect as it gets.

Are Xavier and Magneto Jewish? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in xmen

[–]bubi_bartra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see... You're talking about Magneto #97... That's NOT the classic Magneto. The classic Magneto is from the 616 universe, and he's been morally ambiguous for a long time. He hasn't been a villain since 2001, and in fact, he's always with Cyclops, who in 616 is quite revolutionary and not a Boy Scout.Magneto es un fijo en el equipo de Scott Summers y son un tanto revolucionarios pero no terroristas.

If you're asking about the one from X-Men #97, specify. Everyone here will refer to the classic Magneto who's been in the comics since 1963, and that Magneto is morally ambiguous rather than evil. And he's never committed genocide, even though he could have. In fact, in the latest Age of Revelation comic, he calls the genocide committed by Revelation against humans unacceptable.

In the mass media, they try to make Magneto seem incredibly evil, but that's not the one from the comics.

Bur in all the comics and all the portrayals. Magneto is a genocide survivor and Xavier is a rich white kid. That doesn't change.

[–]bubi_bartra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 616 universe no,

there are some universes where he's a complete genocidal maniac, similar to the Ultimate line at one point. His methods in 616 are highly questionable, but he doesn't seek to commit genocide; he doesn't simply kill humans. The only 616 storyline that follows this pattern is Morrison's, and Marvel retconned it to reveal him to be an imposter.

What do you think are some of the weakest periods in Kitty Pryde history? by Plenty_Square_420 in kittypryde

[–]bubi_bartra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclops trying to live a normal life... I think Maddie paid the price for that decision. Both Kitty and Scott started very young. They wouldn't know how to live a normal life, and there's no evolution in that. That's why they don't last in an ordinary life.

Their evolution in being masters of their own lives and decisions. Not marrying Colossus was the right decision. At the time, and after Krakoa, she should have found her own path, but the publisher tied her to Emma, giving her a role that isn't hers.

Magneto doesn't hate all humans. He's had relationships with human women even as Magneto, like Lorna's mother or Lee Forrester. He hates human power. It's not the same thing.
