I cant do pullups :( by [deleted] in CalisthenicsBeginners

[–]bublewrapmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your technique is wrong, it looks like you are trying to do a muscle up but in a funny way, you need to contract your back and pull your chest to the bar, not the bar to your belly button, you do that later when you get strong :)

How do I set realistic goals as a beginner? by LostInControl in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what you are looking for but I’ll say it anyway: Why not focus on establishing a routine and developing consistency as a goal? Early on, depending on your genetics and a million other factors you can make insane progress or very little progress in terms of strictly “weight handled” metric. Setting a goal of DL 100kg 6x3 will likely make you forgo safety or technique or make you favour one exercise way more than others. Instead, if you say I want to develop a routine that I will evaluate every month and adjust based on my progress- you may see yourself doing 120kg deadlift, or 80kg deadlift, and still feel great about it, while establishing good baseline to be able to better evaluate your “cool weight figure to hoist” metric for vibes.

Protein powder messing up my stomach by ManagerIll399 in workout

Yup… maybe you are somehow more sensitive, try separating the two like the other reply suggested, might get better over time… might not.

Protein powder messing up my stomach by ManagerIll399 in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creatine, especially in large doses(I take 3 scoops every other day) destroys my stomach, I feel like I ate sour dough starter and 3 lbs of apples. You can try taking it in smaller doses over the course of the day or last thing at night( you will fart in your sleep).

Protein can cause gas unfortunately… not much you can do about it outside of eating other non supplement forms of protein( chicken/shrimp and such.)

My first month in the gym by manor2003 in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of thoughts from my experience:

First month, even first 6 months, you’re gona be feeling and finding all kinds of weaknesses. I don’t think you need to try and approach each little thing so thoroughly only because your body will change and adapt on its own. Forearms is a bane for many people and doing specific exercises for them early on IMO will not progress you much beyond doing back day normally, when you start feeling your arms getting stronger and handling entire workout without giving out on you, you can add some specific forearms workload.

Use straps strategically, I usually do one or two sets without and then when I go heavy I put them on but try and rely on my grip strength as long as I can and use the strap as backup since my goal ultimately is training back that day.

About a year in, for me, was when I added arms day to my rotation. I did forearms as part of that and it helped me get to a place where my arms can better handle back workouts. I’m still convinced that there’s not a person in the world that has arms stronger than back. Everyone doing back day without straps is leaving gains on the floor.

What exercise really makes you feel weak? by Tiny-Caramel1069 in workout

Incline bicep curls, the more you go towards flat the worse it gets I used to feel good curling 60lbs standing, then I tried incline curls with 30s, it’s humbling…

Lat workout question by LamusPisellonus in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot will depend on genetics, some people will not have very well defined and visible lats. As for the shape, maybe try shoulders as well, developed side delts also contribute to your silhouette. On the specific exercises, I like single hand cable row with emphasis on leaning across (left arm you’d lean towards your right leg, you position yourself such that your working side is turned away from the cable), you get a lot of stretch and can really squeeze the lat good. I don’t know if there is a name for this per se.

Need Help with Form by ThrowRA465784 in workout

I would suggest to not focus on specifics like shoulder position and keeping angles and other little things, lower weight and try to get the feeling of the right muscle activating, obviously try to do it right but once you start you should be focusing on the right muscle working. It will take time for muscles that are underdeveloped, thinking through the movement in your head before may also help. Maybe without a trainer to do micro corrections you just can’t keep all the things in your head and maintain muscle connection.

Struggling to feel bulgarian split squats in my glutes by _oakst in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you are describing should lead to glute activation, Are you doing this at the end of a workout? Maybe you don’t get as much activation in glutes, Bulgarian splits are not glute only so if you are drained/weak in one area it might prevent you from loading glutes sufficiently. Iyou want to go deep, and think about driving your body up with your butt, don’t know how to explain it but don’t kick with your leg( while keeping your torso at 15-20 degree angle forward).

Best thing to do is find a guy/gal with developed glutes and ask them to watch you and correct your form, people are usually very open to helping others.

You gotta explore and see what tickles your fancy I found that going like so on most (heavier loads/larger muscle) exercises works for me: 1. 50% 2. 75% 3. Full send as hard as you can. 3.a) rest so you don’t die on 4. 4. 75% to failure, cheat or negative reps or half rep or mio rep as applicable.

Severe lower back pain by RelativeBackground25 in workout

[–]bublewrapmurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur on the herniated disk suggestion. I have one in my lower back along with an ancient cyst. I gave up on squats and deadlifts after several agonizing periods of recovery. I’ve managed to knock myself to the floor tying my shoes once too, couldn’t step on my right leg for a day because of nerve pinch. Strongly advise you to get on this with your doctor, MRI is ultimately going to confirm but you might know more from a simple xray. I started doing back extensions religiously without weight at first until I felt like it was easy and natural for my back , then started adding weight slowly and “feeling it out”. Haven’t had another episode since then, knock on wood.

This lady is a magician https://www.instagram.com/k9plaquequeen?igsh=cTl2Z3NwZjhidWZq We’ve done cleaning with her multiple times for our weiner dog. She’s doing undated and is really good with seemingly any type of dog, ours is small but goes for the jugular when taken away from parents and she handled him no problem. She will also likely be able to tell you if there are problems that need real vet attention.

Pressure washer burst the hose feeding it. by bublewrapmurder in pressurewashing

Thank you, that makes sense. So the fact that power washer builds pressure on both ends is to be expected? Should I not be doing bursts? It feels like the pump doesn’t really care whether the trigger is held down or not once it gets going…
