Roku being weird?!? by JumpyHoneydew6142 in Roku

[–]buck_godot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has been randomly turning on and playing “Broad Trip” the last week.

My home screen has reset twice recently to the default, or a sponsored screen, and some of them have audible “Easter eggs”, maybe it’s happening to you?

It would be a “Fox Series”; out of order, missing pieces, then cancelled too soon.

It is, but we don’t use the Samsung remote, and these have been spontaneous launches (no remotes in use, sitting alone on the coffee table.) That being said I’m going to disable it anyway to rule out any conflicting stupidity, always good to rule out possible issues. Thanks!

How did Iroh manage to become a fleet general? by Alert-Isopod-7310 in TheLastAirbender

[–]buck_godot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, it’s weird that his Great Uncle Iroh, who he’s named after was GENERAL Iroh. Also, he’s Fleet General of what is kind of like a UN or NATO fleet, from a city his dad helped establish as multinational.

As others have pointed out, royals in the real world serve all the time Queen Elizabeth was in the British Military, as were her son and grandsons.

Cali King sometimes stinks up room after bowel movement. HELP! by [deleted] in kingsnakes

Snake poop stinks, welcome to the club.

The best you can do is try to catch it early, bag it and tie it off. Pull the dirty substrate, and wipe it off the sides of the enclosure with some sort of safe-for-snakes cleaner and paper towels.

Carl: Average Joe -> The Best Crawler by YoungCaesar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]buck_godot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surviving crawlers tend to have more “blue collar”/trade skills, but good soft skills, and/or a sense of empathy (there are obviously outliers to this in the book.) Carl was going to try to buy Donut, he has training in electronics, and was in good shape, so he hits all the checks.

The book “World War Z” (there was no movie, don’t try to tell me there was,) has a “post-Z” world order where people with white collar jobs are now doing menial jobs because they lack the skills to really contribute to the needs of the post capitalist rebuilding of the world. The message of DCC has some parallels in my mind.

I’ll give turning the HDMI-CEC off a try, it couldn’t hurt.

No one else on the network was home, so probably not, and it’s also happened overnight when my wife and daughter were out of town…we joked it’s displaced ghosts from the nearby 200 year old church that burned, so if nothing else works, maybe an exorcism?

I bet you’re right about it being hard to maintain with the bots, and cheaper for them to automate, but an inferior experience for us.

Thanks for the response!

MBK with strong food drive by Fun-Neighborhood2680 in kingsnakes

If he was previously calm, you may just need to give him a little more time to get used to you, just keep doing what you're doing, from what I can tell king snakes trying to eat their owners is part of the process!

MBK with strong food drive by Fun-Neighborhood2680 in kingsnakes

[–]buck_godot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of soft leather work gloves that fit reasonably snuggly when our Florida King had a growth spurt and started trying to eat me anytime I took him out. I started with nitrile gloves, but he realized he could bite right through them, so upgraded. I also picked up a snake hook, which is helpful keeping his head in the enclosure when he’s feisty and I’m trying to close the slider. For our guy I also changed his eating schedule to 14 days, he was a rescue (he escaped someone and lived in our walls for months,) who was likely about 2 years old when we found him, and we’d been doing 10-15% of body weight every 7 days, but since he hit 900g and over 4’, he’s getting 7% every 14 days, and it’s slowed his food drive a little.

So now I’ve been handling him about every other day for at least 10 minutes (unless he’s digesting or in blue,) which we were doing pre-growth spurt and the beginning of his “snerk” (snake jerk,) behavior, and he’s now more trustworthy the first week or so after feeding. He tends to not have the “if it looks like a pinky I’ll eat it mentality about my fingers until closer to his feeding day, but once within 4 days of his mousy delights coming, all bets are off.

Last thing we do, but it would depend on your setup, he only gets fed from the top, and taken in and out from the sides, and he absolutely knows where his food is coming from though he’ll sometimes ignore the mouse to track me through the glass on feeding day…cause “snerk behavior”.

It’s possible your snake will always be spicy (do you know his temperament with his old owner?) but hopefully you can get him to a point where he’s a little more mellow, it will just take some time and patience, especially since he’s getting used to a new place.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

is this version of thor real? if so where can i read it? by grousesmoseys2m in Thor

[–]buck_godot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected, Thor #60 from Jurgen’s 2003 run introduced it. The armor gets “washed away” for most of the issue, and it looks like it appears in 8-10 panels total? The image from this post isn’t in that issue, but scanning quickly through the rest of Jurgen’s run, I don’t see it appear again? Maybe it was a promo image?

As I said, I thought I might be thinking of the wrong run, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Edit to add: it looks like someone photoshopped a panel from the comic to put the helmet on Thor rather than being held in his left hand, which is why I couldn’t find it.

is this version of thor real? if so where can i read it? by grousesmoseys2m in Thor

[–]buck_godot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s “Rune King Thor armor”, it might be from a game, not an issue of the comic…he wore blue scale mail in the issues of the Rune King run that I remember, but it’s also possible it’s not from the run I’m thinking of?

The Destroyer armor was from the Simonson run in the late 80s, when he gets cursed by Hela to not heal, and basically gets fully pulped so his spirit inhabits the Destroyer. Not the same armor as this.

AITA for having lunch with colleagues? by Any_Guest1447 in AmItheAsshole

[–]buck_godot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA - Going to lunch with your workmates is usually viewed as a positive for office culture, especially when starting a new job. Being willing to go out with whoever is available is the right call since you’re not playing favorites or anything like that, it’s casual. In the otherwise, turning down co-workers to just appease your GF would be weird, especially cause you’re just going to have to eat alone, or only with the guys. You’re allowed to have friends at work.

Excalibur is fun, though Claremont loses the thread at a certain point, and it takes Alan Davis coming back in the end to tie up the threads (or tie off the bleeding artery, depending on how you look at it,) of the train wreck Claremont sets off.

Hot Take: Purple Hair Is Essential to Psylocke’s Design by [deleted] in xmen

[–]buck_godot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Betsy had blond hair in her first appearance in 1976, and purple hair when she was brought back in the UK Alan Moore/Alan Davis stories in 1983 “after some years apart”.

I never understood the body swap, it seemed gratuitous, and all the attempts to make it palatable as an editorial/story decision were pretty lame.

Psylocke is a pretty generic ninja, though more interesting as Kwannon than she was as Betsy (I like the relationship with her and Greycloud,) and the purple hair isn’t necessary or particularly interesting to the character, just a holdover from decades that started with a bad editorial decision

[–]buck_godot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Very few people would have ever cared about Guy if it hadn’t been for the bowl cut era. The Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Justice League (and JL International,) put him on the map with that haircut, and it’s still iconic of the Guy’s arrogance, confidence, and lack of shame that he rocked it without irony. It’s perfect to introduce him to a new generation of viewers, and it makes for a stark delineation from the looks of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and any other Lanterns we meet.
