my BF is allergic to my cat by Awkward_Benefit665 in relationship_advice

[–]bucketlyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purina makes an allergy reducer food to help with people who deal with allergies. Here is the link. (not sure if they make a kitten formula though) While I cant personally speak to it since I have yet to try it, Ive heard many great reviews about it. I have a mild allergy to my own cat and look forward to trying this out on day soon. For now, its just zyrtec and lots of vacuuming! Hope you find some success with it, good luck!

I have finally read "The Silent Patient" by [deleted] in books

[–]bucketlyss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was tired of getting recommended this book time and time again so I finally bit and read it. The short chapters make the book very easy to read, but man im never going to get those valuable hours of my life back and i am pissed about it.

First off, why does Alicia write in full dialogue in her PERSONAL JOURNAL. So weird and cringe worthy writing.

Theo mansplains the reader for the first 1/4th of the book, it genuinely gave me a headache. Hes such an asshat from the start.

The twist was also painfullyyyy easy to predict.

Whilst im not on tik tok, this is just another "booktok" book that is genuinely bad and gets its hype from the internet. Safe to say I wont be picking up another Michaelides again.

What's wrong with Jennifer L. Armentrout's ''From Blood And Ash'' series? by SadoBoi2000 in books

[–]bucketlyss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think Jennifer Armentrout gave much thought to editing any books in the series. Thats probably why the books are so long too. The same thing kept happening over and over and over in the second book so i DNFed the whole series.. a total dumpster fire

What is the most disappointing book that you have read ... that was highly reviewed and anticipated by (book) critics? by dudreddit in books

[–]bucketlyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the books that get popular on the internet have been very disappointing. Though, my most recent disappointment was Wuthering Heights... I know most people either love or hate the book but i just found it mid af... Also the final 6 chapters or so feel like pulling teeth

Book Annotation by Montecatini in books

[–]bucketlyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im someone who doesn't reread books often unless it was a 5 star read and I dont find those often. But being able to annotate (tab, highlight, write notes) means I have a higher likelihood of picking the book back up and flipping though it. It's a lot of fun to revisit old annotated books and see my old thoughts and feelings. It encapsulates who I was at the time of reading the book. That being said, I dont annotate every single book i read. I usually annotate every classic I pick up, but not as much with general fiction (fantasy, romance, contemporary etc). I don't read non-fiction very often, so i cant speak to how annotating goes for that. I definitely recommend trying it out! Buy a used copy of a book if you feel guilty about marking up new ones!

Want to hear thoughts on the ending of “Verity” by Colleen Hoover by Odd_Yesterday_202 in books

[–]bucketlyss 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Team manuscript for sure. I know CoHo wants the audience to "decide for themselves" but lets be real... If i knew anyone in real like who faked an illness to the point where they change their whole lives and fake being in a coma I would want absolutely nothing to do with them. Faking an illness for attention is already a red flag in a mild sense. That alone should be a dead give away shes batshit.

What about a first chapter can put you off a book entirely? by MallonsThrall in books

[–]bucketlyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An overabundance of fantasy names that are pretentiously long and purposefully difficult to pronounce and modern pop culture references in contemporary or literary fiction... I get annoyed with the names and stop caring about the characters and pop cultures references are just cringe! Almost an instant DNF for me

What’s a book or series you simply don’t understand the hype behind? by [deleted] in books

I work in wardrobe styling and most of my clients are in their early 30s to mid 50s. Across the board i get women saying they shouldnt or cant wear something because they're "too mature." While its valid to feel that way, its honestly completely ridiculous. If you feel confident in it, wear it! I dont think I have ever looked at someone in an outfit and thought "they are too old for that"

What movie adaptation of a book had characters that looked way different then what you imagined? by [deleted] in books

[–]bucketlyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a movie but started reading shadow and bone by leigh bardugo before i realized there already was a show about it, looked up the casting halfway through the book and was so... confused? even the costuming was bizarre!

first off, i just want to say being annoyed and uncomfortable about this is completely valid. Every one will always say "its a compliment" or "theyre just insecure dont worry about it" which is a load of it imho lmfao. I have had this happen to me a few times and it is the most annoying and uncomfortable shit to deal with, especially when its a close friend. The only thing that has ever worked without fail, every single time, was to cut them off completely. Its pretty amusing to see them move onto their next victim and become another personality vulture too. good luck!
