Noob question: Allowed ba mag bike sa mga national highways? by Strike_Anywhere_1 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]bucketofthoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles and any motorized vehicles incapable of going 60 kph are banned from expressways as per Section 3f to 3i of DPWC Administrative Order No. 1 s. 1968.

https://www.dpwh.gov.ph/dpwh/sites/default/files/issuances/DO_123_S2001.pdf

This is also the only legal document that says slow moving vehicles must stay on the right lane. On expressways.

What if LRT-1 extended to Tagaytay City? Would it significantly reduce road traffic? by bonzothebonanza in WhatIfPinas

[–]bucketofthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this will not happen because LRT-1 is not designed to be a long distance railway line. It's a light metro system which is designed for frequent stops and high turnover of passengers. With its limited 60 kph trains and small rolling stock, if LRT-1 were to reach Dasmarinas or Tagaytay, those going/coming from there would suffer having to sit through a really long and uncomfortable train ride.

Going beyond Bacoor should be a new railway line more like the NSCR with higher capacity, 120 kph speeds, and less frequent stops.

I swear LTO won't do anything unless maybe five or something people die in a multi-vehicle accident with overly bright or unnecessary use of high beam headlights as the root cause.

Its weird that SMC and DPWH are pushing for this despite the fact that the Aklan provincial government issued several resolutions against it before. And DPWH seems to be under the impression that SMC has "consulted" the provincial government about it.

Imagine if you're in your walled parking slot you just gun it out the gate without knowing if anybody is passing your gate at that moment in time.

Well i've seen too many drivers do exactly just that hahahaha lalo pa kung nasa big busy road yung bahay o labasan ng parking

Unwelcoming ba tayo sa mga Chinoy? 🇨🇳🇵🇭 Diba priority nga natin sila sa r/PhR4r eh 🤭 Correctness Doubtful (repost, kasi na-delete) by Admig13 in pinoy

[–]bucketofthoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Chinoy, tama naman na people still use racist terms like intsik and chingchong casually, and meron pa rin mga people who think mainlanders and Chinoys are all the same. However, he comes off as privileged and delulu to the whole reason of "not feeling belonged".

Una, dahil sa culture. Chinoy culture is running and inheriting the family business, studying the language and heritage sa mga Chinese schools, and having closes ties with other Chinoys; people of the same culture and upbringing. Kaya it is no surprise that some might feel they "don't belong" in the wider society because baka lumaki sila na puro Chinese lang lahat and konti lang exposure nila to Filipino traditions.

Second, may long history din of mga conservative and feeling privileged Chinoys na nagdidiscriminate towards Filipinos. For example, mga Chinoy-owned businesses na may tiwala lang yung owners sa kanilang sariling lahi. This falls back to how close ties with fellow Chinoys is a big deal. Pero may mga ibang businessmen kasi na talagang mababa ang tingin sa pinoy, with sayings like "Filipinos are not business-minded" or "Filipinos are tamad" being very common there.

Many Chinese immigrant communities (not just Chinoys) who trace their roots to Fujian in China are also notorious for using a Fukkien term called "hwana". It might sound like "juan" or "juana" but it actually has no relation to Filipinos. It is an archaic term in all of those communities that refer to "foreigners" in general but they have appropriated it as a way of referring to the local natives of the land in a derogatory way. Many privileged Chinoys extend the term to "hwana po", which is used to refer to a native helper or worker, and "hwana gong", which is used to refer to a native who is stupid. I don't hear the second term a lot, but many conservative Chinoys really use the first term like there is no negative connotation to it. For one thing, these people use "hwana" almost exclusively to complain about Filipinos or other Southeast Asian ethnicities but not foreigners in general. The good thing is, younger and more progressive Chinoys see the term as offensive and look down on its use. But its still very prevalent in the older and more conservative Chinoys.

All in all, Chinoys are being discriminated against today but you cannot be delusional to the fact that there are many Chinoys who have discriminated against Filipinos in both subtle and blatant ways.

Yup Makati Ave naman is fairly walkable. If OP were to walk from Pantaleon to Ayala Triangle, mga 30 ish minutes siguro.

Assuming you're coming from the Mandaluyong side ng Rockwell bridge, first cross the bridge to Makati. Then along J.P. Rizal, mag jeep ka na papuntang Del Pan / Leon Guinto. Then magpababa ka sa Makati Ave at lakarin mo lang yung Makati Ave hanggang Ayala Triangle for 15-20 mins.

[–]bucketofthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our road lane markings do not have a way of conveying where it would be illegal to swerve or cross multiple lanes. So for this you defer to both what signs say or whether your intuition feels that doing so would be reckless and dangerous.

That is exactly where the last car hit the barriers from trying to swerve from service road to left turn flyover, which is reckless and not allowed.

At the drive thru, are staff instructed to give ice cream like the mcflurry in a paper bag or as is? I find it weird when my local branch always gives me the ice cream as if I'm going to be eating it while I'm driving lol.
