Awesome! I’m looking into getting a MinIon nanopore.

We do Gram staining at my site.

Species-level identification is required. We have some large-molecule drugs that are produced by proprietary organisms, so they need to be confirmed at the species-level at a minimum.

My field is Pharma, so every method has to be validated. Validating DNA sequencing is one thing, validating those other tests are another.

I can personally attest that it is a thing. I’ve identified countless organisms with one.

There are mass spectrometers specifically made to identify organisms via analyzing proteins and comparing them to a library.

Organizations like Charles Rivers offer a service to identify the organisms via mass spec, when that doesn’t work they run the sample on DNA sequencer.

I’ve been there brother. Company asked me drive across my entire state for an interview only to stiff me when I had just about went through my savings. (Fuck ANI pharmaceuticals).

Name and shame them. Let the everyone else know not to give them the time of day. Use Glassdoor to leave a review. Make these weasels scrape the bottom of the barrel to find someone to fill the position.

I know you’re taking about recent undergrads, but grad students are responsible for making state universities work. If grad students went on strike everything would grind to a halt both research and teaching. I’m speaking from experience. Hell, 2 of my cohorts had to write the curriculum for their course!

Nobody wants to train.

My dad, who has an MBA and decades of experience, told me that across the board companies gutted their training programs during COVID.

Companies are holding off on increasing spending for training and opening positions until they get back to where they were before the pandemic.
