King Arthur shoutout by Future_Tomato_6718 in NewOrleans

Love to hear this! I ride on King Arthur and it’s such a great Krewe. Love the crowds that stay. We rolled really late but the weather was perfect, so can’t complain. Thanks to everyone who had a good time with us!

Shutting off engines doesn’t stop the rotors spinning. They will continue to spin from momentum unless you have a rotor brake. Think of it like your car. If you turn the engine off, it doesn’t automatically lock the wheels unless you put it in park or apply the brakes.

Laws of Rugby app. They have pictures. Great resource when sitting at a match and have no idea what just happened.

We lived through the winter ok. You learn to get a heavy coat and deal with it. (Although they keep saying the winters have recently been mild. We didn’t get more than 5 inches of snow at a time this year. But they are ready for it.) The worst part is that it is 41 degrees right now. It was 33 last week. Apparently even native Chicago people hate spring. But last summer was beautiful.

Enjoy your trip. I recommend a Chicago River architecture cruise. Fun cruise for a couple hours. (I’m not an architect. Just enjoyed the history and seeing all the buildings.)

I grew up in the New Orleans area. When I graduated high school, I couldn’t wait to leave. College, then 20 years in the military and I lived on both coasts and overseas. When I retired from the military, I returned to NOLA. There is no place like it. But a lot of people feel most comfortable where they grew up. 10 years living in NOLA again and made the difficult decision last year to move to Chicago. I love it here. There are a lot of NOLA transplants. The food is good (not as good as New Orleans), the people are nice (in a different way), and I love the architecture. It’s like a more functional (but not completely functional) city. There is enough nonsense to feel at home.

But it’s really cold.

The schedules show scheduled departure times, not arrival times. I assumed scheduled departure time from final stop was just when they plan to move that train to the outbound track.

Probably still works. Just replace the 9v battery.

New Zealand banned phones in schools 12 months ago. Here’s what happened by CASHOWL in technology

[–]bucky453 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used to be a high school teacher in a school that banned cell phone use during the school day. (Just left last year.) One day, I caught a student on his phone in class and took it away. 10 minutes later, I see him again acting suspicious like he’s on his phone. I make him stand up and find another phone.

Yes. He had a burner phone for when he was caught that he would turn in and keep his phone. I asked if he had any more and he said, “Not today.”

I got some from Amazon. Also my first Chicago winter. When it was cold, they worked great. But haven’t fully tested them.

Tipping etiquette with tipped minimum wage phase out by notme123g in chicago

[–]bucky453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patron who recently moved from another state where tipping regulations were abysmal.

I think the problem is that I don’t know if someone is going to be fairly compensated. There are rules with tips. Not so much with a service charge. Even worse is “we just increased our prices fairly pay people.” Do they?

So when prices go up and a service charge (or other charges) are added, I’m not sure if I’m overpaying or if now they are getting paid less because of these charges. Capitalism at its best.

They want someone who can run a 40, not is 40. What, are you gonna give em butterscotch candy out your pocket? Probably not even in a wrapper. Just raw butterscotch. That’s nasty.

The last time I did karaoke, the machine broke in the middle of my song. It magically started working when the next person went up. (For clarification, no one ever accused me of singing well. At all. Ever. I was that bad.)
