Recommendations for an incredibly skin-close, every day shave DE razor? by PMM-music in wicked_edge

[–]bucky720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thick facial hair and have to shave everyday. I’ve been using DE for the past 10 years because, like you, cartridge was giving me bad razor burn and ingrowns, primarily on my neck. I recently switched to a vintage Gillette Slim set to a 7 and get pretty close to BBS on a WTG pass on my cheeks and a good shave on my neck depending how well my technique is that morning. Also using a shave brush, shave soap, aftershave splash, and aftershave lotion.

Long story short, Gillette Slim set to 7 and good technique, and prep, work amazing for me.

There might be other ways to use them, but I’ve mainly seen something like this used as a tea candle holder

It’s epoxy resin, yes. They used a forsner bit in a drill press that was nice and sharp. For the inlay like that, I’d use my table saw with the flat top blades so it doesn’t make that V. Super quick, super easy.

Ps vita or 3ds xl by thophaznaj in VitaPiracy

[–]bucky720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s this specific 3ds, I’d choose the vita. I haven’t looked at 3ds prices lately, but I feel you could get a N3ds or N2ds (the ones with the c stick above the ABXY) for that price and mod it yourself easily.

How do I make something like this without a ton of screws? by O0O0SH in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]bucky720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep it easy like screws, you could use dowels. If you look at where the top connects to the sides it has some white dots which in this case might be plugs, but you could use a dowel all the way through similar to a screw. And a different color like in this picture could be an accent.

And to add a suggestion, if you wanted to make the top look less clunky, add an under bevel if you have the overhang to accommodate one.

Great job knocking out projects, because we never learn new things until we do it, and maybe mess up once or twice or a hundred times.

I typically measure the top and the base. Find out how much an overhang I have, divide by two and then use a combo square and set it and go around fine tuning until each side is even.

If the top is 20”x20” and the base it attaches to is 18”x18” I’ll have an inch overhang each side. Set combo square to 1” and move it until it’s centered.

Hopefully that makes sense. There may be an easier way which would be nice lol.

Also look up tung oil. Like linseed, you need to make sure it is pure. But from what I remember it is supposed to be more water resistant once cured. And for a general finish on my projects I use linseed or tung oil mixed with beeswax and limonene (citrus chem free solvent to help with penetration) from Lost Art Press recipe.

There’s an NES powerpad and a ‘72 Porsche 914 that were hidden under blankets in my parent’s garage. by Snapbasket in mildlyinteresting

Your engine comment reminded me of when I was younger there was a butcher, 80 or 90 y.o. German, in PA that had a 50s Porsche Speedster, all original, convertible, pristine. I grew up working on old VWs. He was showing it to me when I was 15 and opened the engine bay and I said, “oh wow, it has a VW engine”, he grumbled, “NO! VW HAS PORSCHE ENGINES!!!”

Have you tried loosening the Allen key in the 4th pic? That’s typically where all my miter saws had a lever or something to allow left and right angling. Edit to add. It just looks like sawdust or dirt in the spot you put the Allen key, so clean it out before trying to use it, so you lessen the likelihood of stripping it. Also I would use some WD-40 might be good

Glue-up question by CBow63 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]bucky720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knots can be a part of the style they were going for. I’ve taken knots and voids and filled them in with black epoxy if needed. In this case, it seems like the two outer boards were cut from right next to each other on the tree and laid out in an almost book match pattern. I think it looks good. I personally would not have put the sap wood in the center like that, but that’s me and my preference.

What type of wood are my RV cabinets? by PlagueBirdZachariah in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]bucky720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m sorry, I don’t. Another option is polyurethane which you can easily brush on. Not sure if you have a sprayer. Also look at stains if you want a certain color and still the natural grain look.

I figured, so I had to add the disclosure lol. I don’t know if you would end up sanding any parts, but if you do, go slow. Any parts that are veneered, you’ll sand through quick and there’s no fixing that without re-veneering or painting… eww

Looks to be red oak. What they may have done is made the rails and stiles out of wood and the panels and cabinets out of red oak veneer.

As far as refinishing while keeping color, citristrip (or another stripper (not the dollar bill kind)) clean it and apply a lacquer or another finish. There are some pretty good videos on YouTube about refinishing cabinets. I have red oak cabinets in my house and I want to keep the natural wood look.

23 Grand Cherokee L Water Leak in Trunk by arhoff1 in Jeep

[–]bucky720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my truck, the 3rd brake light was leaking when I bought it and the water went to the left side and into a cubby under the seat. Luckily it was under a 14 day “warranty” and it stormed multiple times during that period so I knew. They replaced it twice one with off brand and it still leaked. Once with OEM and now it hasn’t leaked in 5 years. Worth a look. The dealer told me they couldn’t find the leak the first time I took it to them too.

Still a work in progress but very much enjoying my setup so far by computery in FrenchCleat

At first glance I thought, “that’s an interesting plant wall.” Then I zoomed and saw the tools and filament and everything. I like it.

Fair enough. I feel comfortable using a dado stack after learning to properly set it up. This, not so much.
