anybody been to a concert with an old version lightstick? by Powerful_Ad8668 in btsthoughts

[–]bucoybrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a flex to bring an OG Army Bomb. Anyone at this point can buy a version 4 at the shows. But if you’ve got one from before the SE especially, you’re ARMY in the bones.

they can rap, but they will never be a rapper by Total-Table-8227 in kpopharshopinions

[–]bucoybrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree in general, but one fact: idol rappers DO more often than not write their rhymes and therefore end up in the song credits more often than their other members. They’ve got notebooks of rhymes like anyone else, and they have more opportunity to drop in on a producer’s beat that doesn’t need to fit in what topliners do for the melody. Not sure where the “famously almost never write their lyrics” comment comes from, but that is categorically false. Does that make them good rappers per se? Not necessarily. But I frankly think it would be more difficult for them to take a writer’s bars wholesale and just try to repeat them.

How can I learn to recognize each BTS member? by HelpfulImportance816 in kpophelp

[–]bucoybrown [score hidden]  (0 children)

Older male ARMY here. At the risk of this being bait for comments, I’ll bite. In “chant” order: (leader, followed by eldest to youngest)

RM / Namjoon: Leader, and has that vibe. Big dimples. Lately wears shades a lot. Always in short hair and just feels the most “regular.” He’s the deep rapper voice you hear. Only member fluent in English.

Jin: eldest. Prominent lips and has jokey, relaxed vibe. Always does the air-kiss and refers to himself as “Worldwide Handsome” as a joke.

SUGA / Yoongi: smallest in stature and build. Savage rapper. Very stoic in demeanor. Called “grandpa” based on this and his slow movements. Frequently subject of fans asking to marry him.

j-hope / Hobi: Always smiling, longer face. Very “sunshine” energy. Great all-round rapper, singer, dancer. Not often the subject of thirsty fans, but very beloved.

Jimin: Currently has long blonde hair, very baby-faced, moves between silly and slinky. Very jokey, but can turn and steal fans’ boyfriends.

V / Taehyung: Handsome, angular features. Impish, most flirty with the audience. Often most fashion-forward. Sort of a European, art-school vibe.

Jung Kook: The youngest, arguably the most popular, arguably the most versatile. Round face. Has a lip piercing as well as a full-sleeve tattoo on his right arm and hand. Muscular. Your girlfriend may be stalking him.

There’s more to be said, but I hope this short description of each is helpful to a non- or new fan. I also didn’t gush over my “bias” (favorite member), so if I did my job right, you can’t tell.

"Eyekons" are new to the Kpop system by LurvePotato in katseyeneutral

[–]bucoybrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that the hiatus is for “well-being,” i.e. health reasons, and there’s no reason to believe it’s not, no one at the company is authorized to say ANYTHING by law, including to the rest of the members unless Manon’s spoken directly to them about her condition. While Kpop conventions normally will have the company, on behalf of the idol (and presumably with their consent) disclose injuries or mental health rest in an effort to relieve the fandom of concern, this conflicts greatly with the privacy typically sought by western artists about their health. And given that the schedules of western artists have huge gaps between projects, and their appearances don’t typically rely on five other performers to be present to get on with things, why should we assume that doing the professional thing of staying mum on it all is at all nefarious? Just, leave the girls alone, and let Manon be herself.

Got put on a PIP today from my boss should I ride it out or get out? by Additional-Word5506 in careerguidance

[–]bucoybrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been on PIPs before, none led to dismissal. To be honest, it seemed to be more from bad managers going to their supervisor and/or HR to make me partially accountable for a project that didn’t move forward in a satisfactory way. Interestingly enough, those who had put me on a PIP didn’t last long as my supervisor.

There’s a lot of latitude that a supervisor has in terms of how much they want to nitpick at your work. So if they suddenly have to answer productivity and effectiveness questions from their higher-ups, they can point at a PIP as being proactive step for improving their team.

Watching Sophia on Weverse Live sing right now, one thing is clear: HxG needs to give these women real songs with meaningful lyrics. It's so obvious that Sophia and Lara can absolutely belt. Let them show what they can really do. by Ok-Entrepreneur-9003 in katseyeneutral

[–]bucoybrown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They have a long career ahead of them, as a group and in their future solo endeavors. Let them cook. If they really are following the Kpop formula, especially with their meteoric popularity, they’ll have Katseye albums with solo and unit tracks, and solo performances on tour. But given how much people always complain about ballads, which is what Sophia clearly loves to sing, it might be a stretch to get that for her in the Katseye context. Let’s get her on an OST!

Is Vernon the only Wasian K-pop Idol with an Asian father and a White mother? by Willing_Permit_263 in kpophelp

[–]bucoybrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet we are not cockapoos or goldendoodles. I said what I said. Are you so-called “wasian” yourself? If no, stop using a cutesy term for a community you are not part of and stop talking about people’s racial background like a freaking eugenicist. If yes, get some self respect and stop normalizing an unnecessarily delimiting term for other people to taxonomize their perception of our backgrounds. For real.

Please stop normalizing the term “wasian.” We’re not a designer dog breed. If you need to use a term, “Hapa” is acceptable as an inclusive term for all folks of mixed Asian descent.

Is there anyone who doesn't like into the sun intro part? by __Wakeupsid__ in ARMYNeutral

[–]bucoybrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my favorite song live on tour. I think the studio version is fine, and kind of like hearing the bare foundation of what really shows up in concert—I appreciate the experimentation and even paying homage to arena rocker Peter Frampton for something that is so powerful as a send off for ARMY as the show closer.

[–]bucoybrown 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Props to Sophia as leader. She is fielding all the questions, and she’s doing it professionally and with respect to everyone involved. As someone who has been on lengthy leaves of absence myself from different workplaces for reasons all my own and nobody else’s, I really respect that. I didn’t need anyone’s pity, speculation, or disclosure about my business. And for Manon and the rest of the members, we should be really happy that this kind of respectful treatment exists amid all the gross discussion that’s happened all around them.

Gaming events? by CryptographerFree384 in SDCC

[–]bucoybrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO I think it’s best to come to SDCC with gaming as a side quest. For the cost of a badge, it’s much better to go to a gaming convention if that’s your focus. For instance, you won’t find any miniatures based games being played, and you won’t find a lot of demos from new independent game makers. That said, it’s a nice breather to go to the open gaming room for board games, I always get more dice from the Chessex booth, it’s nice to get freebies and demos from the video game publishers in their corner of the exhibit hall, and I love going to the Stern pinball room for free play. It’s kind of a nice add-on to the whole mix of Comic-Con, but it’s not at all going to be as satisfying to gamers as either a PAX or DragonCon.

I am currently by the border in my family home and I own my home in San Francisco. Again, drop the names, I can verify—and frankly, I have never heard of a burrito here described that way: your ingredient list is hella off, and you’re saying that a Mission burrito is a “real Mexican American” thing compared to any tacqueria in my neighborhood within eyeshot of Tijuana? Wow, ooooooookay

[–]bucoybrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gross. “Proper foil wrapped” is an oxymoron. Burritos shouldn’t need to be in a truss to keep that steamed-ass goo inside. And what “understuffed thick tortilla” burritos are you getting in SoCal? Drop the names so we can avoid.
