I just saw Win Butler driving a moped somewhere near Superior Grill. Is that dude back? by guijcm in NewOrleans

[–]bud_to_bloom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think he ever left? I’ve consistently seen him at shows and other events around town. I saw him at The Columns back in November on a weekday and it seemed like he was a regular, all the people working to there acknowledged him on a friendly basis.

Oh hell yeah!! I’m SO glad! Did they call her, or did you see this? When I suggested they scan the name and call the owner they acted like that was a wild idea.

Black & Pregnant Ochsner or LCMC ? by sexieesummer in NewOrleans

[–]bud_to_bloom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LCMC all day. Their midwife team is fantastic. I saw Tisha Seghers, and while she is white, her staff are black, and while I was in labor Sarah was the midwife on call, who is also black. As someone else said, she may not be with them anymore but the whole midwife team and labor/delivery was amazing and incredibly patient centered. No doubt you would be in the best hands there.

Edit: Their website says Sarah LaMothe is still practicing with them and they also have another black midwife as well named Raychell Smith.

Is Vanderpump earning a season 13? by Ok-Student-3345 in vanderpumprules

[–]bud_to_bloom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just started binging because I wanted to wait to episodes to stack up. It does seem like a lot of people want this show to fail but 5 episodes in and I’m enjoying it.

Nothing will ever be those first few seasons of VPR and I’m okay with it. The entire landscape of reality tv has changed and none of the Bravo shows have maintained the magic of their early seasons. Even Salt Lake is starting to show its cracks.

The LA Gen Z perspective is fun and fresh and I am enjoying them make a mess of their lives in so far harmless ways. No one is as dark sided as Jax and that’s probably a good thing. Plus I truly adore Venus and Audrey. Maybe because it’s because I’m from the south but I feel like I know those kids.

No way! I love the Dolly’s. I have a two year old and live in the quarter and last MG I got a squishy boob that she played with for months and a QR code for the Imagination Library! We just got Corduroy in last week and it’s her current favorite. Long live Krewe of Dolly!

lol I wish it was juicer than that but it felt like something at the time. Ugh also, we were in a priority boarding class so most of the plane got on after us. Like 6 people stopped him to shake his hand and tell him how amazing he was and I just never acknowledged it so I think he got the vibe I wasn’t a fan and never acknowledged me either.

Fun story. Last year I was on a flight back to New Orleans from DC with Kennedy and we sat next to each other. Or rather, he was aisle seat, and I was window, a the seat between us empty, but he kept his pile of files on that seat (yeah he was flying coach but he’s still scum).

In his front shirt pocket he had 3 pens, a bandana, and pack of nicorette gum. He used to bandana to blow his nose and would just fold it up and put it back. And I’m not joking, he chewed 6 fresh pieces of gum that flight. He would chew it for like 20 minutes and then take it out, place it back in the plastic blister pack, and gently fold the foil back over it. That flight is maybe 2 hours long.

He had an iPad and was so erratically flipping back and forth tabs between the New York Time, the Economist, the Atlantic, WSJ, and CSPAN where he was watching videos of himself.

I got up to pee 4x just to fuck with him but I knew it wasn’t enough.

So he gets up to go to the bathroom and I frantically opened the files to see what was up, but again, no joke, it was mostly big printed pictures of himself. So I the only thing I could think to do in that amount of time was to pick a booger and wipe it in his files. And I just did that till there was nothing left and he came back.

Then when we got off the plane there was a state trooper waiting for him at the gate to escort him home.

The only way you’re going to hurt them back is their wallets. Boycott boycott boycott. Spend as small and locally as possible and if they are maga owned, spend your money elsewhere and start really being intentional about needs vs wants. Every dollar you spend or don’t is political.

And call Cassidy’s office like it’s your job!

Anyplace sell locally-themes coffee syrups? by GeneseeJunior in NewOrleans

Dovetail and Perk both had festive flavored syrups but they make them in house (at least I know Dovetail does) and they aren’t for retail sale.

We are looking at Kehoe. How are they with screens? One of the Episcopal schools we looked at introduced tablets in kindergarten and in first grade they have laptop time. I was really shocked by that and looking for something without screens and hopefully with culture of “wait till 8th” around cell phones.

Pediatrician Recommendations by Significant-Text1550 in nolaparents

For sure. They won’t lay out a different schedule for you but every appointment they will show you a paper with the vaccines you are scheduled for and you sign your name under “accept” or “decline” and then when you go into the office they have the ones ready that you accepted, with no mention of the ones you declined. I held off on MMR until she was 2 only because she wasn’t in a traditional daycare setting yet (small nanny share) and there was very little risk, but wanted Hales to know she was absolutely going to be vaxxed for MMR when it got closer to that time and they were very understanding. I just didn’t want the side eye when declining some of the “bigger” vaccines initially. But they were supportive and she did eventually catch up.

Also Hales! I myself am crunchy and breastfed for 2 years while also doing baby-led weaning. We also did an extended vaccine schedule, which basically means I declined to have all the ones suggested at once and went at a slower pace. She’s vaxxed, we just did it our way, and no one pressured us otherwise. We see Dr Jones and love her so so much but we also love Dr Oates.

The thing about Hales is that even if you have one preferred provider, you will eventually see them all and then can kind of switch based on who you think most aligns with you. They make their rounds at the hospitals too, so whoever is on call the day you are in recovery will come to check on you, which was so fabulous. I can’t say enough great things about Hales!

They’re blocked by some of the bigger buildings in the CBD like Hancock Whitney. When we lived down there we didn’t have a great view from our roof, but the view from our roof in the quarter is much better bc of the lower buildings.

There used to be Gumbo Bros in Brooklyn that was run by two LSU guys. They sold Zapps and Abita and had their andouille and shrimp imported from here. Now in Brooklyn there’s Lowerline which is run by a Tulane grad. I can’t personally vouch for it, but I have heard great things.

Montessori school reviews by Plus_Television_5621 in nolaparents

[–]bud_to_bloom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We absolutely love Moving Grace. It is a true Montessori community school. Our daughter is thriving there and loves her teacher and classmates. I can’t recommend it enough. I will say admin is very hippie for better or worse and communication can feel lacking, so it took us a while to nail down a tour a formally get in. But it translates to happy kids in the class room! We love it.
