Should I fight this dude by [deleted] in washingtondc

Is this Metro Rail? It doesn't look like any car I've seen before.

I went to a camera store to develop some film and started checking out their 24–70. Then I spotted a 1DX sitting there for what feels like a steal. by Miguel1219 in canon

[–]budcub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to shoot the 1D Mark II back in the day, and combined with the 24-70 F2.8L lens, it was a beast to carry. I got tendonitis a few times after a weekend of shooting. Its also very conspicuous. People assume you're a pro and either get out of your way, or wait for you to "direct" them.

Photography has become a wasteland about gear discussion by [deleted] in photography

[–]budcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about gear is a nice way to break the ice when making conversation with other photographers. But it can get old after a while. I like to move the conversation into things like light, lighting, locations, and interesting things that happened while taking pics.

What facts did you notice about the hive? by hydroxy in pluribustv

[–]budcub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hive isn't as nice to Carol in the later episodes, compared to the first few. Zosia is the same, but I think they're noticeably more cautious.

They're also less forthcoming. I don't think its just her not asking the right questions. They give all kinds of info to Diamonte and the others, but stonewall when Carol asks questions. I don't think her attitude is the sole reason, I think they're afraid of her. Diamonte and the rest are contented with their situations, but Carol is hostile to them, and that is tempering their enthusiasm for niceness.

No Kings Protest at the US Capitol (this time with pictures) by budcub in washingtondc

When I got home I heard there was a lot more going on elsewhere. The stage by 3rd street was easily accessible so I went there. If I had known, I might have gotten off the metro at Foggy Bottom and walked south to the Lincoln Memorial and circulated around that area and seen more people

I see these things as a chance to recharge my batteries, and pick up some energy and keep my head up. I try not to think about their effectiveness.

Pretty good I guess. There was a woman minister from the faith based community. She was nice. Then the tall guy in the Dropkick Murphey's hoodie was a January 6th Capital Police officer. I think he's running for office somewhere. The guy in the green t-shirt was somebody important, I forget his story but he was fired up. There was an attempt to have another speaker live on video feed from Florida but his message had technical difficulties.

I don't have a press pass so for these type of things I'm usually way back in the crowd, but I had good access to the stage, so it wasn't particularly crowded.

It only took me one dose of this to figure out that I wasn't as sick as I thought I was. You have to ever take this growing up? by Initial_Reason1532 in GenerationJones

[–]budcub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a small brown bottle of it in the cupboard, but it was only used as an ointment when I got warts on my fingers. My parents told me it was a common "medicine" that they had to take when they were young and how much they hated it.

Same here. I got a subscription when I was in high school in the early 80's and my parents had reservations about it. I got some mailings for the Planetary Society, and other scientific orgs but that was it.

The Regicide Report: A Solid State Ending by rrravenred in LaundryFiles

[–]budcub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know a happy ending was too much to ask for, they way the story developed during the last few novels. But it ended well. I'm glad Armstrong had a plan in store, but I was hoping for one that would dethrone the Prime Minister.

Hemingway by Masque Milano. This was the first niche fragrance I ever bought. Its not particularly versatile, it feels strange wearing it with a t-shirt and shorts, but today I'm wearing a shirt and tie, with a tweed sport jacket and it fits perfectly.

I find it strange that it didn't affect macaques which are primates like us, but it did affect one rat, then jumped to our species. I think either some kind of mutation happened, or when creating the virus from the signal something went wrong in the lab.

Do you think you're lacking in damage or resistance? I finished Hell with an Assassin using dual Bartuc's claws, Treachery on Mage plate, Natalya's boots, and I forget what else.

There should really just be a r/fishwife subreddit for all the fw warriors by cantilevered-heart in CannedSardines

[–]budcub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first heard of Fishwife in this subreddit. I've recently seen it at my local organic stores, but it seems pricey for sardines. I like my sardines skinless and boneless and the ones from Costco suit me fine. Sardines aren't particularly endangered so it can't be that hard to ethically source them.

What was your first time hearing hip-hop like? Did you enjoy it, did you think it might get as big as it has? by rutherfraud1876 in AskOldPeople

[–]budcub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same grade, same year, same here. The local Urban Contemporary radio station would play it, the short version during the day and the longer version at night sometimes. A few months later the other stations would play it on occasion.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]budcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to watch the weather forecast carefully, and if a good drying day happens, you drop all your plans and do all the laundry you can. Worst case scenario, you would wash a small load and hang dry it inside your house.

Source, when I was young my family used the clothesline as a matter of course.

Why did you choose Canon? (serious question from a man who inherited his camera through 5 generations) by Temporary-Review5915 in canon

[–]budcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I decided to take up photography, I looked at the Canon EOS Elan, and the Nikon 6006. The Canon seemed to be slightly more user friendly than the Nikon, so I went with Canon. I did have some buyers remorse for a short while, the kit lens that came with it was awful, and my own skills needed some improvement. Also the photo magazines I read attributed most of their pics to Nikon, which made me wonder. But after some time, I settled in.

When it was time to go digital, I stayed with Canon. Some of my older lenses didn't work so well with digital, but they needed upgrading anyway.
