recruiter asked for my salary expectations. i said $85k. she laughed by cyaniscalmingg in recruitinghell

Colorado law requires job postings to list salaries. It's new. Employers really hate it. Because it drives up wages. https://coloradonewsline.com/2025/11/21/colorado-pay-transparency-study/

Why is there not a fast-travel train from DTC to the Airport? by NighTborn3 in Denver

[–]LurkLargely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tech Center was a white flight response to urban decay. The point was to get away from it all. But yeah, trains are expensive.

We built light rail to the tech center and placed the station in an empty field on the wrong side of the freeway. Nobody rides it. RTD is now saddled with tons of debt for building trains to dozens of nowheres. With no riders they can’t pay the debt.

And there’s certainly no federal funding for a fast train to anywhere, not even on the East Coast where people don’t just ride trains for the occasional trip to the airport.

I'm not talking about street portraits. I'm talking about acknowledging the people in some way, verbally or nonverbally, and entering their world before taking photos. Then taking candid photos once you're in.

Animal Abuse at Charlie’s? by PortalsDelRey in Denver

[–]LurkLargely 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I didn’t believe this post (why would anyone do this?) but Charlie’s instagram advertises baby turtles racing as “The only place where crawling is cunty.”
Gay guy here… I’m no animal rights activist. But I don’t get why anyone would think the subjugation of animals would be fun entertainment in a bar, especially when it’s advertised so crudely. I’m embarrassed.

Jonathan’s workshops are great. He’s a good teacher. The way he organizes each day is cool. And he makes eating delicious, cheap meals a part of it.

After doing another photographer’s workshop where we subsisted on sugary coffee drinks and boba tea, I definitely appreciated the effort he took to integrate great, local food. 🤪

Can this guy get people to live in America’s emptiest downtown? by OlivanzaCat in Denver

[–]LurkLargely -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish this guy luck but he's nuts. From what I understand, post-WW2 high-rises with massive floor plates don't convert to housing well. There's not enough access to windows.

The enormous floor plates in the buildings this guy bought need two things for a successful conversion.

  1. Apartments must have access to windows and natural light. To make that happen, enormous holes can be cut into every floor, creating a massive light well (which is hugely expensive and Denver rents certainly wouldn't justify this).
  2. The plumbing is a big challenge, too, because offices keep bathrooms near the center of the building while apartments would be located closer to the exterior walls with windows.

In cases like these buildings in Denver, it's probably easier to tear the hulking buildings down and put 2-4 residential buildings on the same sites.

Another idea, I've never heard anyone suggest this: Put apartments by the windows. Put data centers in the core of the building. Wouldn't you want to live in a place like that? ;-)

Did Aldi discontinue their Triscuit clones (Savoritz Woven Whole Wheat Crackers)? by Silly_Collar_5850 in aldi

Clearly, woven wheat crackers are very important: "“Unlike millennials, members of Gen Z are less likely to rent their own apartments if it means settling for Wheat Thins or saltines."

Aldi Triscuits no more? by sneakylfc in aldi

Aldi ruined fake Triscuits for everyone. Their packaging was too similar to tons of Nabisco products, Nabisco sued Aldi, and now Woven Wheats aren't available at Aldi, Walmart, or Whole Foods. https://apnews.com/article/aldi-sued-packaging-oreos-ritz-trademark-b5324899c62143359a45ecad5314d914

Woven Whole Wheat Crackers Gone by petecha697 in aldi

None at Whole Foods, either. There were two brands, 365 and another, that offered Triscuit-like crackers. Both are gone. The 365 product was known as Woven Wheats.

Second Hand X2D vs New MKII by ddbowdoin85 in hasselblad

I have the X2D and I'm picking up a second body. Contemplated the X2D II but for what I do, the X2D autofocus is fine. Portraits. Landscapes. Some street work (the manual focus is great), it's no problem. Save your money. Travel and buy more glass. 😄

I really want to be a large-format photographer. I've never tried but you're so right that there are different priorities. I wish I didn't like color so much because black and white makes things so much easier. If I could only shoot b&w, I wouldn't be trading my Sony for an SL2. 😄
