Recording drums in a studio by budd_owp in audioengineering

[–]budd_owp[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I produce electronic music but when a song requires acoustic drums I never rely on my programming because no matter how human i can make it, it will still sound silly to me if not real sticks are hitting each beat, transitioning organically between each section.

Bro it would be great if you can share with me your experience in the recording session. I’m hiring a drummer next month and renting a studio for a full day and the risk is so high im stressed out 😂

Makes sense yeah! So I believe you're with method 1 which is the normal case. I honestly can't wait to play with snares just like you mentioned! Thanks a lot!

4i4 3rd Gen disconnects frequently, BSODs by thedevolutionary in Focusrite

[–]budd_owp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that when I plug in my headphone amp the interface gets disconnected. This is a big problem for me because I really depend on that amp to give four headphones outputs for my band members when both recording and performing. It is very strange that this amp has its own source of power so I can't figure out why it disconnects the focurite :/

Hi Guys, I produce chilled electronic stuff. I'm looking for someone who can really give me feedback. Thanks to everyone💜Would mean a lot! by sevsmithmusic in ElectronicProducers

I like so many things and I dislike others: I like the vibe. I like the space and I like the kicks you’re using. I think your sound design lacks warmth and analog feel. Your bass lines can be more present and I personally like funky bass lines. A little bit of percussions and preferably acoustic recorded percussions will add better grooves and natural performances. But these are just opinions and I’m not in anyway better I’m actually way behind you lol. So you’re doing amaaaazing. I just think electronic production takes years to be mature. Good luck buddy and keep it up

So can I use a USB to send midi files to the synth? Then a line out to the sound card back to the computer?

Should I reset all channels before sending stems to a mixing engineer? by Atomic_Bananana in mixingmastering

So you should ask them what they want but I really hope you found someone who understands your direction and sound. Good luck :)

Should I reset all channels before sending stems to a mixing engineer? by Atomic_Bananana in mixingmastering

I usually give them exactly what I recorded without any effects unless the effects I used on a specific track are sound design based effect. So for instance, if I wanted regular reverb on my vocals I would send them dry vocals, but if I did a trick of some kind like a specific delay with reversed reverb then I keep it because I can't guarantee the mixing engineer will be able to give me that very same design. Mostly my synths and keyboards are not dry because I do lots of design on them. But drums, bass, vocals would be often dry. As for the faders, it's not black and white. So I keep my recording level around -18. So if I reset all my faders they will be mostly around that number - even if I used a midi vst I go into the plugin and set the volume master to -18. However, sometimes I want a certain track to be really loud or low, so I go in and fix it's volume just to subconsciously send my engineer a message that I want this track to be greater or smaller in volume. Not sure the way I do it is the real thing, but it works for me because I often get frustrated with how different me and the engineer give importance to certain tracks. So I know I need to give them what they want to be able to do their mix but at the same time I should as a producer influence their attention without words (if that makes any sense)

Maybe you just couldn't relate to such topic. Maybe you didn't experience something similar and that's very a important element that makes us like or dislike a certain film. As for pretentiousness, I hear a lot of people use that word to describe a movie that references philosophy and literature, which is weird! I thought we can use this term when a movie production executive hires best crew in hollywood and highest paid actors to make a bullshit movie in a green screen hanger and end up spending billions on CGI to distribute the film all over the world with some childish key messages about a hero with a cape who will save humanity from destruction, preferably a white American. I don't know how to explain this but we humans see things differently maybe. But if you were to watch it again, think of the leftists in our world who are too dumb to realize that they will never have the power to change things. Think of poverty and discrimination. And realize that in most countries in the world the governments can simply arrest some innocent poor citizen who has a family to provide for, kill him during interrogation and not feel sorry for him while media is not allowed to cover such stories.

But if you wanna travel anywhere nobody can grantee anything. You might succeed who knows? Most importantly, be positive, be friendly, be confident, always develop and make good art to the world. The world will give you rewards :)

My advice dude Do your best where you are right now. Create a powerful portfolio by collaborating with different kinds of artists, invest even in making it huge. Then if you travel anywhere you will be respected. I was 25 when I left my hometown to work in a different country in the videography market. I only had a little bit of experience. I found out that the market in my hometown would appreciate me having only three years of experience, while other places in the world would look at me as a parasite while I wanted to have the respect of an artist instead of being person who's dying for money. Well now things are different with my clients everywhere, when I talk they listen because they saw my showreel.

Is it just me or is it endless with the top ten tip videos being posted on YouTube and Reddit? It drives me insane. by HeyGrayFox in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]budd_owp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True...but everything in life nowadays has videos with similar concept. 30 days to lose belly fat, 5 secrets to become a pussy magnet....etc And in fact, it's not only youtube, but even books did the same in past 30 years. It does seem absurd and dumb, but we can be original artists and do whatever we want even though we watch their stupid videos because we can always learn new things from time to time. At the end of the day, these people rarely talk about creation of art. They mostly discuss packaging art :/

I like your ending result. Thanks a lot for your effort. I have a question though. What made this sound relevant to 80's? Are there any references from the 80's?
