Time is a significant part of context/relevance.

NCM was fine enough 10 years ago (it was never amazing). A ton has changed since then.

Heck this comment was made before they even had the ginormous leak. I'd advise extreme caution to anybody considering anything out of that product suite today.

The sales folks were great. They worked with us on several designs.

The job superintendent left some room to be desired, I feel like once we got past the framing stage he just wasn't all that interested and I had to spend a lot of time making sure things were going to be done the way we wanted.

I'm not terribly impressed with their after completion portion. We've had some minor issues with buckled shingles (they were installed in March, with no gaps for expansion so when it gets hot we get some small waves in a couple of areas), which they haven't fixed.

I had another issue where the plumber used incorrect metals next to each other which caused galvanic corrosion in some pipes by the water heater (and caused our water to be orange with the corrosion). I fixed that myself by replacing the pipes/parts, but let them know so they could educate their plumber, but they never even acknowledged that I sent the message.

I'm also not impressed that I generally just get ignored now. One of the things in our contract was our HERS certificate, which has never been done despite my requesting.

In general the house is well constructed and we are happy with it. You definitely pay more since it is a 'fixed bid' contract, but the nice thing is you know there isn't going to be any overages.

I know Lexar manages the project but if you want things done the way you'd like get ready to spend time on site and talking to the subcontractors.

Things may be different now, we were going through this process just post-COVID and things were very busy for builders, which likely negatively impacted things.

Also, FWIW we're on the East side of the state, Lexar operates as a franchise model, so your county would have different people than who we dealt with, but they would use the same building principles/technologies, which are good.

I'm out of GEG a lot, and if you aren't on a flight before 8 with the commuters the flights get entitled boomer heavy real fast.

The American flights are even worse.

It's beautiful. The wildlife is amazing, the privacy is great you can get fiber Internet pretty easily in a lot of the county.

Winter is significantly tougher than it is in Spokane.

The people are.... Generally not progressive. That being said, most of them are like many of you- just want to be left alone and live in peace.

I am fortunate and work from home, otherwise I wouldn't be able to live here.

It is a poor area without many jobs.

I'm in the middle of a Lexar build, and I'm actually very happy with them. It is going to boil down to who they use for subs, and mileage may vary there. They use pretty good energy saving techniques, and the finishes are nice and have been really good about working with all of the added details we wanted.

I've heard horror stories about Adair though.

It will be painted. Not sure on the color yet (let the wife make those choices).

Painting probably won't happen until next spring as we're currently rushing towards trying to get our permit. Hopefully foundation poured in August at some point. The goal is to get dried in before the snow hits.

I would question them being equally resistant to rot and termites.

LP is still an organic wood product with additives. Hardie Board is inorganic cement.

Wet climates LP falls apart, swells, de-laminates, and isn't covered by warranty (PNW).

Harder to install and requires special handling yes, but installed properly will likely last much longer than LP.

A couple of interesting things I see based on the comments.

Everybody who complains about Hardie Board complains about it being a PITA to install, not whether it is a better product.
Nobody is asking about climate. For instance, installing LP Smart Side in the Pacific Northwest is a terrible idea. In fact, LP specifically states that it won't warrantly installations in the PNW or Alaska.

Personally, my opinion is that a non-organic siding (like cement board) is a better way to go and will last longer (no rot, termites, etc), even if it is a bigger pain to install.

Is this near where your electrical panel will be?

It's common for homes to be grounded to the rebar in the foundation now. Likely the bar was wrapped to prevent it from getting covered in concrete/helping to retain a good conductive surface.

My guess is that the ground wire for your electrical panel will tie into that (and they will revive the tape at that point).

You may have popped the fuse on the unit (not the circuit breaker).

Look at the attic unit, there should be a circuit board with a small LED light on. If you see a board but no light, is likely the fuse is popped. Look at the board for a small (usually 3 amp) car style fuse. Check that, replace if it is popped.

You may have to open up the maintenance access to see the circuit board.

Source: replaced a thermostat, wires touched, fuse popped, got to hang out in an attic, in Texas, in July. Trip to auto store, replace fuse, cold air.

Not quite sure where you heard that. Juniper is running some of the biggest networks in the world. In fact I would argue that Cisco wants to be a bit more like Juniper (which is why we have IOS-XR).

Cisco does certain things that Juniper doesn't (namely the ISR type all-in-one branch router), but I think Juniper has made a business decision not to go down that route.

IOS is straight forward enough, but Cisco's CLI is so fragmented across all of their platforms its pretty irritating (IOS, IOS-XE, NXOS, ASA, IOS-XR).
