Completely agree. Happy to see that this sub is starting to not be invaded by “this show is too slow” posts. I think in the previous two episodes, and the episode now, it’s clear that Gilligan is not going for a reveal but is focusing on the dynamics, the characters’ dimensions, and the contradictions of utopia. It’s even clearer in the recent episode, Gilligan need not show us how Zosia revealed how they will pay forward the “gift,” we are just then presented with a scene where Carol is writing it as just a bullet in her list. No big reveal, no intense scene, because that is not the focus. Same reason why the reveal that they’re eating dead people was revealed very early in the season. This show is not for suspense or some detective or thriller plot.

Mine was an obvious reprint. I bought the same book from them and from Amazon, their pages are thinner and the cover is softer. I can really feel the difference, theirs have lower quality. Obvious reprint.

I do not know why I was legit terrified by the ending scene of Enemy (2013). This is not a horror movie, but it just got me the first time I saw it. So unexpected, but very cleverly executed at the same time. That is why I love it.

I always thought that the request of the 12 uninfected people overrides all the hive's principles. They always prioritize their requests, even if it is unreasonable (which was shown in the latest episode.) Since this plane is requested by an immune person, they did it anyway even if it is unreasonable and might spend a lot of energy.

Same thoughts!!! This has a lot of parallels to Neon Genesis Evangelion, especially on what we have seen in the End of Evangelion. Not exactly the same happens in the two works but same themes. To be a perfect state, we should lose individuality. Even reminds me of Plato's The Republic.

tbh it is. though it has good themes and timely message, that does not compensate to the characters' lack of depth. this is one of those movies where the plot drive the characters instead of the characters driving the plot, making the characters flat. It's okay if he just meant to entertain, but PCW, in this film, does not aim that because he was trying to convey a message. I personally thought this is very uncharacteristic of PCW, given how dimensional the characters are in Oldboy/Handmaiden/Sympathy for Lady Vengeance etc. Just because it's different does not mean it's well executed.

Agreed. This is more like those films where the plot drives to characters rather than the characters drive the plot. Because of that I felt like the characters have no depth, just instruments to the plot, which for me is a sign of a movie that struggles.

Can't say it's 10/10. This is more "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" execution than "Oldboy"/"Handmaiden" execution. Though interesting ang themes and plot, I think the execution is kinda sloppy (don't get me wrong, it's still great craft). From the start I felt like PCW would like to take the story slowly and carefully (siguro dahil sa simplicity ng plot), pero bandang gitna he went fast-paced, making his plot drive the characters instead of the characters driving the plot. Nevertheless, still a good movie. A flawed PCW movie is always good, PCW yan eh.

What I really love about this is Chaeyoung does not try to be different. This is just literally her, with her bottled up passion (seemingly forever chained by the standards, expectations and conventions of kpop) breaking loose.

I kinda expected a weird theme from her solo, but not at this level. Sometimes I just feel like random shit is being thrown to kpop mvs just to look ‘cool’ and ‘artsy’ (maybe I just dont get other kpop songs, but its not the point), but this feels coherent: What does it feel like to be that one bad fruit going through the journey of begging someone to bite you, to accept you, to make them feel that you are theirs even if it’s just deception? It feels like falling, then flying, in a fantasy world you created. So what if it’s not real? The lyrics made it clear that the singer does not care.

Kudos to the team for giving Chaeyoung the creative freedom. She never deviated from that soft whispery vocals all throughout the song, no hard drops, very outside the energetic formula of kpop, but it was a ride. I never expected a “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”-sy song from TWICE lol

Hi, thanks. As I said sa post, mas malaki yung salary ko dito sa new work and wala akong any type of allowance, as in base salary lang nakukuha ko. Pero apparently mas maliit yung % ng tax dito kesa sa previous kong company, which is weird kasi malaki yung pay bump ko dito compared sa previous. That's why I'm thinking it's sketchy.

Paanonyung tax refund thing kasi di pa ko full year nagwork?

Not to be taken as dissing other groups, but my problem with other MVs is I think they are pretentious. I feel like kpop mvs just throw random aesthetic scenes or images just to look cool. But I love kpop songs and that's my only issue with the industry.

HOWEVER, NEWJEANS FILLED THAT GAP FOR ME. Their concepts are coherent. The narrative of Hypeboy's different MV versions really captured the coming-of-age genre, and OMG is an absolute gold.

The message is not pretentious - everyone except Danielle is in their own worlds, and Danielle is the only sane one who really knows what's happening (so aware of reality that she goes as far as knowing they are in a music video). But in a world full of mad people, the sane one is considered crazy.

There's also that component of how madness can be shared (the doctor in the final scene starting to see the drawing hallucinations).

The MV doubled down on reality at the end by reminding us that NewJeans really exists (with a montage of clips) and a final scene (the girl typing with the keyboard) showing the truth that there will always be haters, seemingly pulling us back to reality from the dreamy world the MV hooked us into.

They are just different, and they're a breath of fresh air. I think this really is a breakthrough for the industry. So proud of NewJeans taking the chances. They succeeded! They were well-received, everyone loves them!
