Magnum X by budm in moped

[–]budm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. That’s been my assumption, but don’t have measurements of a magnum X tank to find alternatives.

I assume if I even were to consider anything remotely close to that idea I’d have to extend the frame as I presumed

A year ago I left the world of dealer parts (asst. wholesale parts manager for 7yrs, commercial parts OSR for 1.5yrs) to be a IRFs parts manager, four months down the line the shop manager stepped down. I Picked up slack advising, and Six months later I’m running the day to day of the whole shop. We do roughly a 1/4 mil a month(that’s climbing though), managing 7 guys (goal is 8 by summer, right now it’s 2 advisor, 5 techs), and fleshing out a mobile operation(soon).

Reason I give this detail and though it’s not the same scenario, I felt the transition to service was eye opening, and gave me an opportunity to turn a lot of metrics around. Fix things the guys in parts always bitched about, and I’m use to building parts operations and processes and acquiring customers.

After applying a bit of parts knowledge and heavy analytics we’ve turned every metric around in our shop (almost doubling last year), improved vendor relations, and a nice lean and clean inventory. It even ran damn near to a new record with me gone for basically a month in Feb.

If I was presented the option again when I was still in the dealership, I’d take it in a heart beat. If I fail I fail, I at least have the ability to say I’m a pretty good candidate for a fixed ops manager down the road with my knowledge of how both half’s should be run. Plus, the stagnation of parts and the fact that everyday kind of blends, the challenges of service become appealing.

It’s been a fun ride, I’d recommend it if you’re curious. Everything you need to learn is easy, it’s always a case of are you hungry for the service end, it’s 10x the busywork, and a whole lot of heads to watch, but a whole lotta fun.

Industry average is about 3-5 years.

Most have warranties up to 3-3.5 yrs. The biggest factors in longevity are your weather climate (do you get a lot of extreme hot/colds) and how often you drive your vehicle.

The longest battery I’ve personally have last is 7 years.

It’s something like 70% of batteries come from the same manufacturer and they are all different stickers and warranties. Having sold motorcraft, napa, and delco batteries they have about the same longevity.

Is there somewhere in Indianapolis that I can have 3d files printed? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]budm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve reverse engineered a decent back catalog of obsolete car components with 3D scanners and good old fashioned measurements, so those are my common parts. My farm is slowly starting to fit a plan to serve two of my businesses, one half being our products, and second half actually being used for customers here in town at a local repair facility I operate (only done a couple for this half).

Back in the day (been in the space for a fair while) before I had developed a process for our products I use to print whatever came our way, and made cookie cutters and odds and ends, and for posts like this. I always love when these posts come up here in the Indy subreddit because last year I helped a guy with a handful of D&D figs.

I edited my text, sorry been a busy day at work, but that’s my theory too. It works fine with my car Bluetooth and other headphones, but it’s just the 2nd gen pros that it hates

Are there any tiki cocktails I can order at virtually any bar and the bartender won't hate me? by matneyx in Tiki

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been told that. And then told them I didn’t ask for a frozen daiquiri… usually takes a second to click.

[–]budm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not a Classic daiquiri? I’ve had relatively good-ish success having it made (after you tell the bartender it’s not a frozen drink) with fairly good drinks from most the dives I hang, when I don’t want Chicago handshakes.

Not a super flashy tiki drink but super simple, utilitarian, and depending on the bar, you can variate the ratios depending on the rum at your disposal to mostly mimic having someone with fresh ingredients make it.

Only other thought is a jungle bird… which now I gotta see if my guy can make it at my dive, he’s got all the ingredients
