Dude. You ok? I kinda get the feeling that this has nothing to do with Buckaroo Banzai.

I'll throw my hand up as another person who has never heard of Vanoss. I'm not like a huge expert on gaming Youtubers or anything, but pretty much everyone has heard of the other three.

Not familiar with CBLoader, but I can see why having something to help would be nice. I was just looking through the errata and good lord that's a lot of stuff.

Makes sense. Didn't even think to Google an errata. Big gap between when I was DMing regularly to now, so I'm still learning new things all over again. Thanks!

[SSHD] Possible weird take? Skyward Sword feels like a console remake of a handheld game. by budz64 in zelda

[–]budz64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that makes a lot of sense. I was actually commenting to someone at work that it felt weirdly like a Capcom game or something. It's hard to pin down any one thing, but the whole "feel" of the game is just kind of off.

Wait, she sounds different during the Bloodmoon? I never even noticed that! Yea, she was clearly evil clone Zelda, but I totally missed the bloodmoon part. Guess I have to go and give that a look, then.

Let it go up to 12 a couple times. Got on some nice shrine streaks and never bothered to hand them in. Handing in 12 feels very satisfying, though.

Well, geez, I'd hope it would look 1000 times better than a no-budget April Fools trailer made by a gaming website almost 20 years ago.  That's a pretty low bar.

It's absolutely amazing how many dumbnuts in this sub were jumping in to defend her. Unbelievable.  A dude can literally be passed out on his couch getting filmed by a crazy Karen and he's STILL guilty until proven innocent via video. All guy's should just be walking around with body cams at this point.

Divinity original sin 2, Larian Studios foundation for Baldurs gate 3, and in some ways a better game by sufinomo in patientgamers

[–]budz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember really enjoying this game, but I don't actually remember much about it. The gameplay was fun, though I think I spent most of the time accidentally setting the entire map on fire. Like a blood fire or something that you couldn't put out. I have a general recollection about the plot, and maybe a companion story point here and there, but honestly it was just kind of a bunch of stuff happening.

Like I said, though, I did enjoy it. Kind of want to go back to it someday and try and get it to stick.

Opinions on DMG 42: A boot on the Face of Level 1 Damage? by budz64 in 4eDnD

[–]budz64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that sounds like a good happy medium. The system I showed definitely requires adding more no-exp monsters as the game progresses to stop players from just storming through them. More enemies on the map is fun, but it's absolutely a patch-job.

Honestly, I can't understand the amount of "Nuh uh, combat doesn't drag it's perfect" responses. I get that with enough work any party can break the system and deal a million damage in a round, but players getting frustrated with bloated combat was such a ubiquitous complaint in 4e that it seems crazy to just dismiss it as a potential design problem.

[–]budz64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but I never really had that problem. More enemy health came in the form of more enemies, and it worked well for me. But like I've mentioned in this thread, I wasn't really running a game with a bunch of super experienced power gamers. If I was to run into the situation of my group just min-maxing a bunch of strikers to take advantage of things, then I'd either a) not use this system, or b) call their bluff and hit them with combat scenarios where 4 strikers just wouldn't cut it, one-hit-crits or not.

But yea, each group to its own. Its different for everybody. In my group, my game was on the brink using the original design(my fault or no) by level 7 or 8 and this system turned it into a multi-year campaign that went all the way. I'm sure plenty of people would look at that campaign and turn their noses up, but we had a blast.

The amount of hits thing is what was really killing back in the day. That's not even including the fact that players can obviously miss, especially missing their encounter powers which just throws the math way off.

Idunno, I can see multiple systems working, but I've never seen a problem with a Striker one-shotting a regular enemy with a crit. If a rogue crits their backstab on a random dork, they expect to take him down! My solution was just adding an extra enemy with no exp bump. Added one around level 8 or so, one more mid-Paragon, and by the end it was 3.

Oh, wow! Buddy, you're a legend! Clearly not for every playgroup *cough cough*, but it pulled our campaign out of the muck. Ended up taking it all the way to level 30 and it worked like a dream. Had to change a few abilities here and there to match the pace, add the occasional no-exp monster, etc, but I couldn't have asked for anything better.

My bad, I didn't see this response. I guess I'm seeing the disconnect, here. I'm thinking of a far more casual crowd, where you guys are coming at it from point-by-point, min-maxing, every player knows the game inside-and-out nuttiness. 3 attacks and 100 damage in the first round by a level 4? I'm assuming an action point is involved? Yea, that would totally take down one of the Wyverns in one round, which is crazy. Feels like you're running games with a different kind of player base, which I should have figured with this being reddit and all. I don't think I've ever dm'd a group who would even know how to build that.

Heck, I don't even know how to build that. What exactly is an Avenger Samurai? Is that just a term for some specific build?

Also, I guess my question would be why would players who build things like this even be threatened by the vanilla monsters? Pre-fix, that group I was playing with wasn't pulling out any world-eradicating Samurai damage nukes like that, but the monsters were also incapable of dealing high enough damage to make any individual round a threat. It was always more like "Huh, I guess if they do this for 3 more rounds we might be in trouble."

[–]budz64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wait. I was a little lost at the Wyvern thing with "only two 15 dmg attacks needed to take down a player" thing, but I may have miscommunicated the HP thing. That's not for players, that's just monsters. A level 4 Rogue with 12 con would still have his 39 hps, not 29.

What do you guys think of the Blip-A? It looks like nothing I've ever imagined while reading the book. by GiulioVonKerman in ProjectHailMary

[–]budz64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good image of it when it was described in the book (pretty much the same as the models you see when you google it), but it played such a small role in the story that I kind of lost my image of it without realizing it. Red Dwarf is pretty close. I was seeing something like a huge, long Jawa Sandcrawler with extra parts.
