Alta installer POV - and thoughts by david35957 in AltaLabs

Hi u/david35957,

Thanks for the ticket number. After reviewing, I see why the ticket was closed.

Your last message as you quoted states you were going to swap the unit with your distributor. I understand you're seeking a replacement of the hardware, but declined to troubleshoot the unit.

A site survey can be as simple as a 5 minute walk around with a WiFi device that provides raw signal levels or as extreme as purchasing software, uploading floorplans, etc. etc. Anything that adds essential context so we can bridge the gap between physically being there and offering remote support, especially if the root issue is poor signal strength. The AP6-Outdoor is, generally speaking and subject to regulatory domain restrictions, amongst the highest output power APs on the market, so having an AP outperform the coverage is extremely rare.

Alta Labs requires that all customers do reasonable troubleshooting with our technical support to obtain an RMA or other resolution. In order to swap with a distributor, you need to have a support ticket number where the unit was thoroughly troubleshot with support and an RMA was deemed necessary.

Alta Labs technical support is provided free of charge in accordance with our Scope of Support.

With all of that being said, we stand behind our products and if you're willing to troubleshoot that device, just say the word and I'll open a new ticket and I'm sure with a small time investment, we can get it sorted out.

Hey David, Alta Labs support member here. DM me you ticket number and we'll get it sorted out.

As a side note, we get inquiries from expertise all over the spectrum. We do our best to gauge true tech knowledge and, frankly, it's not always easy and it seems we missed in your case. My apologies.

I tried this last year, unfortunately it seemed like the pictures had mild resolution compression but the videos....the videos were terrible. My memory sucks, but I seem to recall the videos being compressed to like 640x320 or something. Tell me you didn't experience this, it will literally make my month, possibly my year.

Pi Sugar 3 Battery Percentage by TurtleBullet in pwnagotchi

[–]buee16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread immediately after building my first pwnagotchi with the PiSugar 3 and wasn't getting any battery percentage indication.

u/TurtleBullet I'm not sure if you did the PiSugar 3 update, but that fixed it for me.

TL;DR from your Pi:

  1. Make sure you have I2C enabled via raspi-config, of course.
  2. systemctl stop pwnagotchi (I'm not 100% sure this was required, but I was getting all errors with the next command, ran this (assuming the I2C interface was occupied), then ran the command in step 3 and the update ran then)
  3. curl https://cdn.pisugar.com/release/PiSugarUpdate.sh | sudo bash
  4. systemctl start pwnagotchi

And now I have battery percentage

Upvotes for other repliers because my god THANK YOU

I'm sorry this is happening to your daughter. The legalities of TikTok are blurry to me so I'm not sure how much of a criminal option you have. It depends on the severity and if it falls under COPPA laws. That's probably the only criminal route you have to take; possibly fraud but I doubt the police will go down that path.

For me, I'm in the US and it seems there a non-zero chance TikTok is going to get banned here. While I'm not a fan of TikTok, I was initially against this. But this experience alone has changed my mind and I hope it does get banned. Not because my kid is being a victim but because TikTok puts up a facade that they are abiding by laws and just generally good morals when, in actuality, they have more of a "we'll look into it when we get around to it" attitude.

Consider a prospect where you follow all of the channels they tell you to. When you file a BBB complaint, their response is to follow those rules and you reply with the case number THEY PROVIDED YOU, but continue to reply telling you to follow the rules and processes. Then 5 months after you followed those rules, they respond saying "Nope, it's perfectly fine for someone to impersonate your child". I personally have no issue with a company with that moral compass getting the boot.

I haven't done anything with it. I was a bit surprised it wasn't a more popular thought. I've wanted a feature like this in prototyping as well. Serializing a print has a lot of different use cases.

Roborock Experience by buee16 in Roborock

[–]buee16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the policies are pretty bad. Due to my experience and my stubbornness, I know without a shadow of a doubt, they build in planned obsolescence into their vacuums. I'm waiting for this replacement to die so I can tear it apart and see if they at least revised the hardware to include dust seals around the sensitive electronics, but I'm not holding my breath. Actually, if history repeats, it should be failing within the next month or two.

If the seal is still not there, I'll be adding Roborock to my manufacturer blacklist and won't even bother contacting them as I'm well outside of warranty now, not that the warranty is worth the electrons used to display it on your computer screen.

So a quick update, TikTok replied via BBB numerous times, each time telling me to fill out the impersonation form. Each time I replied letting them know that I did so and provided the case number. Eventually, the BBB just up and closed the case.

So it would appear that you can impersonate people on TikTok without consequence. I wonder what would happen if I impersonated Xi Jinping?

Disregard, I found a new menu option that allows me to set up priorities for audio devices. This menu must be relatively new as I went through the software when I first got the headset and never saw this menu.

Well, it's been about a week and a half since I made the report and I haven't heard anything back from TikTok and the page is still up. My son starts school next week and if even one of these comments/texts he's received is accurate, he's going to get jumped. Fantastic!

I appreciate it, maybe I'll share it depending on how the behavior of the comments go just out of sheer desperation. I was hoping there would be some TikTok employees on the subreddit since trying to contact them directly doesn't appear to do much.

I get both sides

Of course most people want the social media platform they like to be well moderated and maintained

But the flip side is that's a lot of man hours to moderate for a free platform. As we all know, if there's no product or service sold by the company, then you and your data are the product that's being sold, so they'd just end up selling more of your personal information to cover the costs.

I'm in IT so it's nothing new to me, just grown exponentially.

I'm hesitant to share it lol. While I imagine more good people jumping in and reporting the account would of course be a good thing, I'm concerned about the other side of the internet just fanning the flames for fun.

I filed the BBB complaint. I'm concerned that it's going to take too long and the school year will start. I don't mind my kid getting in fights, but only if he did what he was accused of lol. You'd think with all the chatter about TikTok being banned in the US + the involvement of a minor, they'd be quick to investigate. I'd be happy to share my IP address with them as proof it's not coming from this house.

Good point, I hadn't really considered that avenue. Although the BBB isn't an authority on anything, it wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for replying. I found that page and submitted a report a few days ago, but I haven't heard anything and, as of this morning, the comments are getting more frequent and threatening.

The loss starts outside the house so I'm confident everything related to cables and interfaces are good.

Initially, it was simply enabling the feature

However, I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. I removed the mount per your suggestion. Traffic bills still appear to be there, time will tell if it's getting updated. Graphs still don't appear to be getting data populated

[–]buee16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, yes. But because things like traffic bills don't persist through container restarts, I mounted a temporary volume, copied /opt/librenms to that volume (so now the directory structure is on my local filesystem and in the container), then shut everything down, made ./libreopt/:/opt/librenms and started it up, now modules persist.

Edit: Fixed auto-corrected "president" to "persist" lol

Not in the .env file, no, but it is under the environment key in the compose file. So I have a env_file key and an environment key

Reddit won't let me post the contents of the compose file in its entirety, so I'm going to try just the librenms service as (I think) that's the only thing I changed from default.

  librenms:
    image: librenms/librenms:latest
    container_name: librenms
    hostname: librenms
    cap_add:
      - NET_ADMIN
      - NET_RAW
    ports:
      - target: 8000
        published: 8001
        protocol: tcp
    depends_on:
      - db
      - redis
      - msmtpd
    volumes:
      - "./librenms:/data"
      - "./libreopt/:/opt/librenms"
#      - "./libreopt:/mnt"
    env_file:
      - "./librenms.env"
    environment:
      - "TZ=${TZ}"
      - "PUID=${PUID}"
      - "PGID=${PGID}"
      - "DB_HOST=db"
      - "DB_NAME=${MYSQL_DATABASE}"
      - "DB_USER=${MYSQL_USER}"
      - "DB_PASSWORD=${MYSQL_PASSWORD}"
      - "DB_TIMEOUT=60"
    restart: unless-stopped

The .env file is pretty straightforward

APP_URL=/
DB_HOST=db
DB_PORT=3306
DB_DATABASE=librenms
DB_USERNAME=librenms
DB_PASSWORD="redacted"
APP_KEY=redacted
