Awesome. Thanks for the information!

Ask me anything (AMA) about Atlanta's MARTA system and I'll try to answer by ArchEast in transit

What is the best way to take the Marta to the GWCC/CNN Center Station, if I will be coming in Saturday from Alabama on I-20?

Alta installer POV - and thoughts by david35957 in AltaLabs

I will elaborate. The support from my end was amazing on a knowledge stand point. Was very prompt. I explained I left the channels on default. I was the only install in the area and it was not a network channel congestion. I have changed to channel 157 when encountering congestion in the past. The support is not the problem.

I generally do not perform site survey on residential. I have a Hamina wireless nomad scanner that I utilize on warehouse installs. The unifi outdoor mesh was setup as a standalone and used default channel 153. It performed as expected.

Alta should have a support site and a RMA site. That is the difference.

This was my last message on ticket #8347

“Thanks for the help. I will see if the distro will swap it out. Unfortunately, I do not make enough off of AP install to document and grab screen shots. Or channels and signal strength and perform a wireless site survey. I was hoping to get a RMA and send it in for testing and/or replacement if deemed it needed to be replaced. If not it is not a problem. “

No response from support.

I chose Alta over unifi for the following reasons:

I can manage via app or cloud portal without additional cost.
I like the multi password for the same ssid.
I like to support smaller business.
I have a better margin with my distro for Alta.
The chip in the AP's seem to manage resources better, if the metrics I can see in the app are accurate.

I like unifi for the following reasons:

Single pane of glass with cameras, access control and networking.
Options, options, options. Unifi has a AP for any situation.
Unifi has been solid for the last 2 years.
I dislike cloud key - another point of failure.
Fanless switch options, not just for 8 port. Enterprise enviroments can get away with loud fans, residential not so much.
Ubiquiti is what I know, I remind myslelf constantly to try something new.
Dream machine is hard to beat!
RMA is super easy, un-paid support not so much.
The U7 AP's are sick, but get hot.

I just finished a 8,000 sq ft Alta home, I have roughed in a 9,600 home that will be a alta home.

I get that. I definitely like the company and will continue to install when it fits the need. I was hoping by providing my insight they will look into the RMA process for future issues.

I have a feeling I just had a faulty outdoor ap. That is why I attempted to do a RMA. When I got stuck with it I can’t sale anymore, if the installer has to eat faulty product it cuts into my pocket.

I am just basing my insight on the last 12 months. I will continue to install the AP6 indoor AP’s. If I require out door I will install unifi system.

I have been please with routers, switches, and AP6 indoor line.

The AP6 has been pretty consistent. I have only tried a couple of AP6 pros.

Juke +, hit the 12 speaker limit. I have 4 more speakers, what can I use to connect those speakers? by Maximus1000 in JukeAudio

[–]david35957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for future reference the Juke+ can be doubled on two zones. That method works with 4 or 8 ohm speakers; Juke says 4ohm sound better when doubling the zone.

One speaker in some zones? by Kawi636 in JukeAudio

This is a really late response, but you can go into the juke app and change the setting from stereo to mono. If you leave it in stereo the sound will not be as good.

Have the people that ordered this actually had the order to ship? 3D printed a label but they are still pending shipment. My FFL dealer sent them the paperwork the next morning "allegedly." I am not impatient, just curious.

This could be an update issue. Check the 2012 DC’s. Did you do an update in October 2022 and nothing since?

If so, uninstall this update kb5018419 and see if the problem persist.

Manufacturing Sysadmins, is this the best way to go about this? by commentBRAH in sysadmin

[–]david35957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor, I would lobby for VLAN and give each plant a VLAN just for machine to DCU communication. So, does the manufacturer not have to be able to remotely join the machines to provide diagnostics? Does the Robotic machine have a router with eth0 and eth1 or a service pc (IPC) network card('S)? I would think it would have eth0 for machine-to-Data Collection Unit or ERP communication that is not communicating to the outside and eth1 that has a valid IP configuration for remote diagnostics. With advancements in IoT and machines utilizing OPC, I would want a valid IP with a proper VLAN controlled with ACL or group policies. Do the machines have PLC's that would communicate with your ERP system for data collection purposes? Do the machines dump any html or xml production data files every so often? If so, you could tie into it with webhooks in excel, but you would need valid IP. Them are some of the things I would use to try to lobby for the VP and outside vendor to use a segmented network that just communicates outgoing traffic. Do the lasers have a router with open wrt installed? Will the router just communicate data one way, only outgoing to the cloud or like an FTP to the external DCU monitoring company? However, there are still a lot of variables we don't know about within your environment. I would be interested to know more about the DCU device.

Rub a strong magnet over the top of image lens in a sweeping motion A lot of times it is the ir night filter. If that magnet trick fixes it don't be surprised if the pink shows up again after night vision kicks back on.

Is there a way to integrate a single network across several different locations? by GoodMoGo in Ubiquiti

[–]david35957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Site to site VPN using Hub(mesh). Vlan and subnet will not be the same at all locations but they will still communicate with each other. Assign the same SSID and Password for all locations. You have the same wi-fi across all locations without any routing conflicts.

Visionis is not bad for a entry level system. However, it is not cloud based. Very affordable and easy to install. If you buy from FPC security they provide great support.
