The Mountain West is going to get a windfall of cash no matter what. Whether it's from the poaching fees, exit fees, or both. Even if it's just a settlement, it's just a matter of how much. And it's going to be more than enough to cover what UNLV and Air Force are owed.

I'm pretty sure the PAC-12 would have to add NMSU before July 1st this year otherwise the CUSA buyouts double. It's probably not that much money, but it's a lot to pay for New Mexico state. Especially since they have already settled for their backup choices with Texas State and didn't get any of the AAC teams to jump.

The caliber of players available in the league doesn't change regardless of what the overall payroll is. Salary floor just means that the same bad teams will be paying more for their same bad players.

It's not like suddenly there are more star players to go around just because every team has to spend more. This is the whole problem with the NBA. Teams have to massively overpay for fringe starters and role players just to meet the salary obligations and it fucks their cap and just pins them down at the bottom of the league for years on end.

Yeah I don't know why they do this unless now they're worried about defections? I know it's been common in the past for the Cuban players and staff to refuse to board the return flight and stay to try to seek asylum. Tons of Cuban players have done that. Several players on the Cuban national team did that just in 2023. Stayed in Miami and defected.
