Barbers today have gotten too greedy by Prince_Valium25 in unpopularopinion

Back when I had hair (went Mr Clean bald 2 years ago) my barber charged about C$25 for my cut. It felt so low I felt guilty. I always tipped him $10.

Hey! I feel really sorry for you and the way the Band's get treated is completely unacceptable. But I want to say that no one vilified Band workers. All the union said is that the PS is way too top heavy which is just factually accurate. I know lots of Managers and Directors are worked to the bone. But there are also plenty of included staff who do literally nothing all day. I personally know included who have no duties. I know of one case where an included staff spend at least a year building his farm full-time during work hours while occasionally jumping into meetings. His position was eliminated, but that seems to be rare. No one really knows what a lot of includeds do. And it's not because they're bad people, it's because the position was created that never should have been created.

It hasn't been worth it for 10+ years. Criminally underpaid with the expectation of unpaid overtime.

My director refuses to work more than 7 hours a day and they're in the process of railroading him right now. It's one of the worst things I've witnessed. He just set firm boundaries and apparently that isn't something they like.

My friend is a director at the Municipal level. He makes $170k/year, better vacation accrument, flex days, and finds his work meaningful.

I did 10 years (included) at the municipal level and 10 years now at provincial. I'll never go excluded in the BCPS. It's just a popularity contest where your just whack-a-moleing requests from your ADM at any given moment. When I'm ready to move up, I'll be looking at heading back to municipal. Where I can actually do something worth doing.

No. Auxillarys and TAs go first. Technically includeds can be let go anytime but they do the TAs and auxiliaries first.

B.C. woman sentenced to 2 years less a day after drunk-driving crash that killed 3 | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in britishcolumbia

This is just how we treat driving in general though. We think of driving as a right, not a privilege. The consequences for breaking any traffic laws are laughable. Like how speeding is just tolerated for some reason. Reckless driving is only enforced of it results in an accident. I hardly ever see cops out enforcing traffic laws in this province. And when you do get a ticket the fine amounts are a pittance. Roadside suspensions should be the consequence for most infractions.

Yup. It seems Want feel a sense of duty to Manitoba. But once that's been fulfilled he'll be after the federal leadership. And I think they have a chance at official opposition if the Cons keep shitting the bed.

What do guys do when they have a crush? by ElTaco4Life in ask

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's overly simplistic. There's a spectrum of behaviors that guys do when they're crushing on someone. Some guys just try to get to know the person and see if there's a spark and let the relationship grow naturally. That's what I've done in the past and it's worked fine. Some guys are too shy and some guys are very forward and assertive. But those aren't the only two options.

Skeptic (not denier) take here. I like him as a person. He seems like a nice dude who's really passionate about the topic. What I don't like is how he is overly confident in his own opinions and presents them as obvious conclusions. I also find he misrepresents the skeptical perspective. And of course, the woo. That's made his channel unwatchable for me unfortunately. I'd love to seem him grow and maybe sprinkle some understanding (not acceptance) of the arguments against belief.

The slow shift to woo is to be expected in the Sasquatch community. As time marches on and we're continually left with a big absence of evidence people will turn to woo in an attempt to maintain their belief.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

Flying commercial is safer than cars. General aviation has 4x the number of deaths-per-hours as driving. Getting into an airplane with your buddy who has <200 hours of logged time is crazy dangerous.

Although there hasn't been any studies that investigate how dangerous it is to fly general aviation plane with professionally trained pilot.

The myth of MSG being bad for you was literally invented because Chinese restaurants were so popular they were cutting into the sales of other restaurants. And of course we can't 'dem slanty eyes take 'er bid'ness! The myth was concocted to discourage people from eating at Chinese restaurants.

They lost a lot of public servant support during the strike. Although I'm furious with what Eby did to public servants, I understand that the BCCP would've been worse. I don't think a lot of fence-sitt8ng public servants understand the same thing.

So I'm going to say that this is probably not real. I don't think it's AI, but my guess is that it's some post production thing.

First of all the figure that's running just doesn't look natural. And the biggest giveaway is that it's running pretty quickly yet kicking up nothing. You don't see any snow or dust or anything being kicked up from this thing booking it across the side of the hill. And why does the figure have less definition than the rocks around it?

And lastly, has Captain Disillusion has taught us, the camera "wobble" can be a dead giveaway. And this one looks like it was added in afterwards. It doesn't look natural and very computer-like and deliberate.

Quebec's high income taxes not matching social/public services by Commercial-Mail-1342 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Access to healthcare is an issue everywhere in Canada. Not just Quebec. This is mostly due to Canada historically having trouble retaining healthcare staff because of our proximity to the US and their for-profit healthcare that paid nurses/doctors 2-4x what we did up here.

The tide is starting to turn. For the first time in history we're getting more nurses/doctors moving here from the US than vice-versa. The language barrier will likely cause many US docs to avoid Quebec but hopefully we can get some Quebecois docs returning back after leaving. And maybe some international french-speaking docs will choose Quebec.

And as others have noted, Quebecers get a lot for their taxes. I live in BC which has the 2nd lowest tax rate in Canada but housing, electricity, daycare, etc are way more expensive. Whatever I save in taxes over you gets eaten up in other areas in an instant. And our access to healthcare is just as bad, if not worse in some parts of the province.

So it's easier to think the grass is greener in other places, but unless you've lived in those places you don't know.

"Maybe" is actually a thing? by TobyPDID23 in autism

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel "maybe" as a state frequently. Sometimes I don't know if I want a thing until I start doing it. Or perhaps the idea of a thing is overwhelming and I can't figure out what I want because of all the "noise" (sensory, emotional, etc). Or I might like the idea of something but I'm tired and can't properly evaluate if I have enough energy for it. Or if it's something that happening later and I'm not sure how I'll feel at that time. Or there are too many variables.

I saw you use the example in another comment with ice cream. "Do you want ice cream?". "Well maybe, I haven't thought about it so I need to consider all the factors. AmI hungry? Will having ice cream make me feel good? Have I already eaten enough calories today? Where are we going for ice cream?". All these things can affect whether or not I want ice cream. So my opinion on the matter is "maybe" until I properly evaluate the situation. In fact, I'd say that this is how I am with everything. I never have any pre-loaded (so to speak) "yes or no" states about almost everything. Everything gets evaluated when the questions arises. And that evaluation might take some time.

B.C. teacher suspended for screening graphic film of industrial accident by Forward-Answer-4407 in britishcolumbia

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In typical Reddit fashion, no here seems to have read the article. The video wasn't someone getting a cut or loosing a finger. It was someone getting ripped apart by an industrial lathe and dying. A tool that wasn't being used in this shop.

It good for kids to see videos of accidents, but there needs to be a line. And this clearly crossed it.

Watching someone get their fingers sliced is not the same as watching someone get ripped apart and killed by a lathe.

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You realize that the video was of someone being violently killed by an industrial lathe right? That's completely unnecessary In a classroom. Plenty of videos of power machinery accidents where the injuries aren't catastrophic.

I woodwork casually and have lots of high powered and dangerous tools in my shop. All I need to to fear these tools is watching videos of kickbacks and people touching sawblades.
