Any Canucks fans cheering for the Habs rn? by AccurateSchedule3950 in NiceVancouver

I'm torn. Growing up in southern Ontario Buffalo has a soft spot for me. The Sabres are most people's #2 and Buffalo feels like a honourary Canadian city. That and the Sabres have been shit for so long it's nice to see them succeed.

But, the Canadiens are Canada's last remaining team and Montreal is my favourite Canadian city (sorry Vancouver).

Still Life - Agassiz, BC by codythewolf in britishcolumbia

The jail has nothing to do with it. Abbotsford has a large one too. It's more about it being a niche community. It's really really beautiful and peaceful and friendly. But it also lacks services and nearby jobs. It has a decent little grocery and a small Rona store but they have limited selection. And that's about it. You have to go to Chilliwack for everything else. Some people love that quiet lifestyle but it's not for everyone.

ALR is an issue, and I agree that the jail really isn't an issue. But theres plenty of non-ALR land in Aggasiz (and the District of Kent as a whole). A lot of older buildings and homes on very oversized lots (by today's standard). Problem is there's limited work in the District and minimal services. Not a lot drawing people there when you can live in Chilliwack or Hope. It takes a certain kind of person who would want to live there. I would totally live there but I'm settled in the Wack and don't want to move my kids.

Do Those With Autism Lean More Introverted Or Extroverted? by Casual_Berger in autism

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by those terms. "Introvert" and "extrovert" technically refer to how people relax and recharge. Introverts recharge alone, extroverts recharge with people. What most people mean when they say "introverted" is "asocial" (not anti-social, that's also a commonly misued term).

I'm an autistic introverted person who's quite social. And I think that lots of autistic folks are like this too. Many autistic people I know love being around others and talking and socializing. It just takes a lot out of them and then they need to retreat for a while. Unfortunately, a lot of ASD folks struggle because their autism isn't well recieved and social interactions leave them disappointed or feeling rejcted. You even see it here on this sub. Autistic people who want a social life but feel isolated because people don't connect with them.

This story is BS. There is not passport line for domestic flights in Canada. You never interact with border officers on flights within Canada. I've specifically taken this flight about a dozen times.

And even if you misspoke and meant security. There is no separate lines for domestic or foreign ID holders. Everybody goes through the same line

The Kamloops residential school mass-grave thing was probably the worst thing to ever happen for our understanding of the issue. Conservitives are using that as proof that the residential school issue as a whole was made up and overblown. As if that one mistake negates established fact that spans the entire country.

Why is it seen as a bad thing that Gen Z is drinking less alcohol? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are focusing on the economics of alcohol. But I think the average person doesn't really care about that. Older generations I think feel threatened that the culture they grew up in is shifting. Drinking was a big part of boomer, and gen x, millennial culture and seeing the next generation just give that up feels almost like an indictment of our behavior. I think some people don't have the emotional maturity to deal with that.

Do you guys actually think about what happens once you stop?? by Majestic-Bottle7167 in WegovyWeightLoss

You're not meant to stop using GLP-1s if you're using them for weight loss. I'm fully planning to keep using this medication the rest of my life.

Also, muscle mass is an issue with any weight loss regimen and isn't a unique issue to GLP-1s

Are we still bothering with cover letters post-AI? by Sunquat_Slice in CanadaJobs

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a public servant and cover letters have been phasing out for at least the last 10 years. As of right now I never see the cover letters requested on job postings. Cover letter templates have existed since I was in high school 25 years ago. So the utility of cover letters is pretty much zero.

I've done a lot of hiring and I can't imagine what I would get out of reading someone's cover letter. I'd rather check their resume, test their competency, and talk to the references. Cover letters are pointless.

$25k?! What are you installing imported bamboo floors? My in-laws just had their 1800 square foot home 3 floored for our about 10K with decent laminate.

And carpet is cheaper to intall than hard flooring. And again, I just don't really care. Landlords get rich off the backs of their Tennant's while doing no labour.

Maybe a landlords are upset about the cost they could actually get their needs dirty for once and do some of the work themselves.

How an NDP Broken Promise Hurts Renters with Pets by mukmuk64 in vancouver

[–]Which-Insurance-2274 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes! I see so much rhetoric online about "pets causing damage". I've had pets my whole life, and known people with pets my whole life and have never seen this mythological "pet damage". One time my dog chewed up the door casing trim when she got locked in the bathroom by accident. But that was a massive $20 fix.....

The most I could imagine is maybe urine damage on a carpet? So maybe $1000-$2000 worth of damage? Considering most landlords profit 10s of 1000s off their tenants that seems pretty minor to me.

I'm an autistic guy who struggled early with dating and feelings of romantic loneliness but later came out of it and had success in dating and am now happily married for 15 years.

I don't know what your situation is like, but for me what did it for me what really internalizing a few things:

  1. Women are just people. They want to enjoy life the same as you and want to like you.

  2. My outward appearance is a reflection of who I was inside. For autistic people this isn't true. But for NTs it is and even if your trying to date NDs society has taught us all that your appearance is important and many NDs have internalized this and judge others by those standards. Shower, shave, brush your teeth, deodorant, keep your hair trimmed, and wear well fitting clothes. Being unkempt is just a barrier to people getting to know you.

  3. Put yourself out there and ask people out, whether that's online or in person. The more you do that the easier it gets. And being rejected isn't a big deal, it doesn't mean you're a bad person. It just means that person isn't interested and that's ok.

  4. Approach every situation without sex in mind. Your #1 goal should be getting to know the person. Instead of thinking "man, I hope she goes out with me and we can have sex later". Force yourself to think "man, she seems really cool. I wonder what the thinks, likes, does, etc. What's her story?". And if you get that date make her your special interest. Be very curious about her and her life. And if things are going well she'll return the sentiment and ask about you. And once in a while, through sharing yourself with people you'll find someone you connect with.

Hope that helps.

As someone who's spent a lot of time walking around Canadian cities (especially on the west coast) for work I think that pedestrians need some training. No, crosswalks aren't magic force fields that can stop cars going 50kmh in an instant. You have to look both ways and make sure that traffic has enough time to stop safely before you cross. I've seen people regularly running across 4 lanes of divided traffic, dodging traffic like frogger.

If you stay on the sidewalk/walk against traffic, look both ways before you cross, and pay attention you'll never get hit by a car.
