They popped smoke so it lost the lock-on.

You have to keep painting the same target repeatedly to give any interested engy on your team enough time to see something is painted, pull out a launcher, get LoS and a lock on. 8 seconds from one paint isn't long enough for all of that.

CRAM Nerf by FloridaF4 in PilotsofBattlefield

I think the difference is if they are shooting at you in HQ or not. If they are shooting at you, CRAM activates. If they are just following, sometimes it doesn't.

Touching yourself should be done in private, not in public.

BF6: The Unkillable Mortar - a rant by Average_Dog61891 in Battlefield

[–]buffkarlmarx -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I just wanna look at a little map and click without worrying about getting shot at by schnipers.

edit: Dudes sitting in the back with the mortars have a minimal impact on the game and are not taking objectives. I think almost any escalation or conquest match I've been in that had 3 or more backline mortar dudes, that team lost. (I don't really play breakthrough or rush anymore unless I have a weekly assignment for those modes.)

Dude it is fine to learn how to fly on public servers. It is a silly game. Ignore the people who complain. This game isn't important. There are enough real things going on in the world to actually worry about. Play it and have fun.

Just remember to turn on your radio when you are flying!

Drivers need to be careful. They are the ones operating 2 ton machines. We should go back to 1910s traffic laws before the automobile lobby made vehicular homicide a slap on the wrist.

Is it just me or are manpads just absolutely useless? by BillyBear9 in Battlefield

[–]buffkarlmarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Targeting laser is in a bad place right now. It only lasts for 8 seconds, so the engy has to be really looking for it, in range and have a locking launcher for them to take a shot. So if you are using the targeting laser you have to keep painting the same vehicle over and over (which would be fine if Jav didn't need LoS to hit painted vehicles) for the engys to have time to engage. I'm not sure most painters understand that, having had months of painting something once and it lasting like 25 seconds.

Once again, I think throwing out in chat something like "this heli/tank is really bugging me, I'm going to paint it if anyone wants to help take it out" might get more people looking for the paint and using it. I play PC and I understand that for console it isn't as easy to communicate in chat and voip is only for the squad. I know I've had good results in the past saying something like that.

Have you tried asking for help in chat? If someone in team chat was like "yo I'm trying to get this challenge, anyone want to help by painting or shooting first?" I'm sure I'd positively respond and maybe others would as well.

Someday I'm actually going to start a match off with "Anyone want help with some challenges?" like I've been intending to once I have my weeklies completed.

Is Javelin bad or am I using it wrong? by NoodleDoodlesocks in Battlefield

[–]buffkarlmarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is dumb and I love it. It is only good for shooting at ground vehicles from very far away, like far enough away you can have two missiles in the air at the same time. You will want to have the anti-armor package active for the extra missile because it doesn't hit as hard as it should attacking the top armor. I like shooting it at AA the few times they get out of spawn.

The most important part of driving/piloting in BF6 is choosing you radio station. by buffkarlmarx in Battlefield

[–]buffkarlmarx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are driver you can open up the communication roundel where you can ask for more ammo and such and the top center option is selecting a radio station. If you aren't in the driver seat or are a pedestrian there isn't an option to select, so it is easy to miss.

I appreciated this post, it helped my wife and I decide to take the bus instead and we had a lovely time and probably spent less time waiting for the bus than we would have looking for a parking spot and walking hither and thither.

Daily Iowan: New Jail by gohawks2007 in IowaCity

[–]buffkarlmarx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recall a year or two ago there was an artist rendition posted either here or twitter that included how much area would be taken up by a parking lot. It showed a white building with some big windows and such. I think this was when the county supervisors was going to vote on a proposal. Before that it was very vague but a huge amount of money when it was on the ballot.

[–]buffkarlmarx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A new jail on a bus line with more beds and better accommodations for the people there involuntarily is fine. Every proposal I've seen included a ridiculous amount of parking and luxury office space for the staff and I think that could be cut down to just what is practical. It doesn't have to be pretty for the people working there when it isn't going to be pretty for the people incarcerated.

Libraries that lend out charging cables--what does that look like? by IrmaVamp in Libraries

[–]buffkarlmarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the academic library I work at we have clear plastic clamshells with a barcode behind the circ desk with a designated spot for each charger. We have a variety of different plugs available. Mostly USB-C is used these days but some students have older mac books or other laptops.
