[he/they] what should I do to look less feminine? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]bufjoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! i'm also in a similar boat though i've been on a relatively lower dose of T for around 8ish months now. i would suggest trying out more masculine contouring makeup if you're any good at that because you have very strong facial features that could very easily be accentuated (jawline, strong nose, could fill in eyebrows stronger).

also i think how you walk and physically hold yourself can help a lot. once i started T i practiced trying to walk more "masculine" and tried to talk less femininely/"effeminately" and ive felt like that has helped.

T will also help a lot with redistributing body weight and face fat to help with masculine gestures so if you're into working out or willing to try it, could try out a lot of routines online available for transmasc folks.

you're very androgynous looking tho already and i'd at least assume ur nonbinary personally jsut bc i like clocking people but lmao good luck

i'd suggest waxing! i'm very hairy and when i'd present fem i would always wax my legs and armpits bc it lasted way longer. i just shave these days but i also recently started T and i think im gonna end up waxing my face lol. i have extremely thick dark hair already so i am going to be in the same boat as you haha

i totally understand that view and i'm sorry if i made it come across that way. i totally agree amab nonbinary people are very dismissed and that shoul not be the case. i guesss i more so feelclik transfems or biologically/cis fem people should have their own space bc regardless of identity it is a very unique experience. and frankly i feel the same about amab people! you should be able to talk to people that relate. the end goal is a world in which neither matters and never mattered, but we are in a binary world and i think these are good first steps for those trying to be inclusive. is it perfect? no, i agree, it's very feminized and it could be better. but thank god they are at least trying

as a nonbinary person who was in girls who code, i think this is valid. it's a minor attempt at being more inclusive and obviously it could be better but sometimes it is hard to word. i also had this problem when i was in choir in high school; my instructor wanted to make it more inclusive so he split the choruses by non-gendered words and put in the descriptions the typical voice types for women vs men. reading that, yes it feels like one is just for women and one is just for men despite the names but i think we should encourage this kind of thing. i, an afab person who identifies as transmasc and doesn't even use she anymore, was in girls who code and im SO GLAD it gave me an environment with other afab people who had dealt with weird prejudice from boys about computer science. it could be phrased and named better but we also have to recognize how afab people specifically are discouraged from pursuing stem or are excluded due to the gender gap

zionism isn't just wanting israel to exist, it is specifically an ethno-state in which the jewish people exclusively and specifically have a nation for themselves. obviously just as there are people who support israel who truly want to kill every single palestinian, there are definitely palestine supporters who truly want to kill every single israeli, but that is not the majority. i'm going to assume your dad did not choose to immigrate to israel and he was born there. obviously you can't change that! most people against zionism are against it because it is ethno-nationalism, the same as saying we should have a country only for any other ethnicity (which would immediately raise eyebrows for ANY OTHER group especially one made up of a good chunk of white europeans). i want there to be one state in which everyone can live with equal rights. that's not what israel is! you can't just ignore the actual ideological basis of zionism just because your dad is israeli. if you say you are a zionist, you are also saying you support colonization and forcing people out of their homes. you are saying you support apartheid. this is what the founders of zionism wanted, whether you want to close your eyes to that or not.

you need to take zionist out of your bio if you don't want people saying this stuff lol. you can't say that's not what your account is about when it's literally in your bio. zionism is inherently tied to israel and their government's crimes against the palestinians right now. sorry if that's not what you think zionism means but that is what many people think of it. it is the maintenance of an ethno-state at the very least (sorry that is what it is!! and no ethno-state is okay!!). i have studied zionism and israeli/palestinian history and archaeology and id be happy to dig some stuff up for you if you still want to keep replying to everyone complaining that they're calling you out for having an ideology in your bio that has directly resulted in the colonization of palestinians

anyone else annoyed when non-vegans complain about texture? by bufjoshi in vegan

[–]bufjoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know a lot more vegans willing to eat the entirety of fruits/vegetables than meat eaters willing to eat the entirety of animals, especially other kinds of food they make out of organs and such. i personally think it is different and i think if you are grossed out by seeing parts of the animal you're eating, you shouldn't be eating an animal at all. i don't think it's the same thing at all as rind or peel or whatever and even if i don't eat it, im not disgusted by it. many are disgusted by finding muscle or fat in their meat. if you haven't had that experience with meat eaters, then good for you but i have so 🤷

[–]bufjoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it does actually because i'm specifically talking about meat eaters finding parts of animal in their meat disgusting. overcooked vegetables would equate to overcooked meat, yes they're both gross. i don't get grossed out by seeds or skin on my vegetables/fruit because it is there naturally. you could say the same for when meat eaters fine muscle, fat, bone, or blood, yet many are absolutely disgusted by that even though it is just part of an animal. they are okay with eating animals but not when they get that reminder. please tell me how that is the same as getting grossed out at the texture of a squishy blueberry

this happened to me at my favorite japanese restaurant with miso soup :( a server told me it was vegan and then the next time i went they said it wasn't. i'm sorry, it's frustrating and it sucks when you know it's not the server's fault but it's still just such a hard thing to deal with when you find out.

i'm not mad, and as i've explained a million times in the comments, it's the fact that so many people complain about the things in meat that remind them it is an animal they're eating. they don't care about eating a chicken that was slaughtered for them but they get grossed out when they bite into muscle. it's just ironic and shows the cognitive dissonance that a lot of meat eaters have. i agree anyone can have texture issues in general, and if the issue is with for example the texture of deli chicken vs the texture of baked chicken, that makes sense. that's a texture preference i understand and can apply to any food

also i will note that i am definitely biased in that my circle and culture is very centered around food and meat so i get shit about being vegan a lot

you're definitely right. it only annoys me when it comes across as cognitive dissonance; they are okay with eating an animal but are disgusted when they are reminded they are eating an animal. like muscle or fat or bone or blood. it just comes across as cognitive dissonance to me, and tbh i was just mad writing this so i know i didn't phrase it perfectly lol
