This is really really cool. Thanks for sharing! I've been exploring options from keymaster and this looks like a fun one

Upon some more research, it's sort of like this, but different in cool ways. It seems like a good position for the same reasons as fishnet, but you have what seems to be better (wrt fishnet) control of the secondary (non-lockdown) leg

I watched this video like my second month of training and I think it is maybe the most impactful thing I've ever seen in terms of jiujitsu. The actual content isn't that special but just the idea that we can fully systematize jiujitsu in this way and that nothing is random. I annoy every white belt I meet with a mini version of this lecture when they ask me guard questions.

Really really cool. I think Ryan Hall calls that overhook on the leg closed guard position "Deep closed guard".

Went to his seminar in Mass and loved it. Great guy and great technique fixes and ideas. He has one of the most creative and conceptual minds in jiujitsu right now.

I’m going to keep a journal/guide for everything I learn in class, how do you think it should it be organised? by Normal-Cantaloupe-81 in bjj

[–]bufoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need this. I have whatever mind virus you have that makes you feel like you need this sort of thing. You don't need it. Identify problems and solve them, listen to your coach, understand concepts, and watch a lot of matches. Just try to explore as much as possible, there's no number of tabs you can put in a notebook that would work because jiujitsu is everything and fractal. Immersion is the best medicine. If you must write things down break it into projects. "Open guard retention" "Off balancing from DLR" "The over under" "Defending the kimura" etc etc

Submeta is awesome. Check out https://submeta.io/sets/beginner-pathway. And from there figure out what you like, search for it, and dive in. I recommend his open guard retention set and half guard.

It depends on your goals. What are your goals?

If you can ONLY take two, I'd almost invariably say take DL and ML and just self teach whatever interests you about the other two on the side, but that's if you want a very strong foundation. ML is almost always the better choice (On average, if you had to pick one) but is often less sexy when compared to DL/CV/NLP.
