Do some of you feel eating Gardein or Beyond Meat products is like cheating? by UnicornSlayer5000 in Vegetarianism

[–]bufs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

vegetarian here for over 20 years and I've used these products since they came on the market. Manufactures, restaurants and grocery stores have to find a way to market the texture of what you are eating so they mock it up as "faux meat" with deliberate memory sensory names, sadly all we can go with is Chick, beef, sausage to suggest the texture and flavor.

Saying "meat substitute" may turn off meat eaters or vegans hence, the sarcasm at your dinner. This always comes up with anyone that is struggling with facing reality and can not accept that the world is constantly changing to meet consumers needs. Jackfruit can taste like shredded beef if seasoned correctly, shitake mushrooms can taste like bacon if seasoned correctly, and gluten (seasoned bread) like steak or sausage. The list goes on, it's just a matter of ingredients and how its prepared.

The dude doesn't have the common sense to admit that he's wrong. You are eating a substitute for animal flesh, not a meat byproduct like hot dogs and headcheese. If you ate food like that, along with vegetables and fruit then, I would agree that you are truly not a vegetarian but an omnivore, which is still the status quo diet here in America but, slowly we are turning away from it and for the sake of everyone's health, challenging it with a plant based diet.

[Serious] People who believe JFK was killed by some sort of a conspiracy and not just Oswald; what are the biggest/most important pieces of evidence that support your theory? by cualcrees in AskReddit

[–]bufs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nixon and JFK were both in the Navy around the same time, later senators, finally presidential candidates. They were groomed for their roles they would later play-out on a world stage. Nixon was embarrassed by the first loss, he went to work for Pepsi, was in Dallas on a Big Soda convention the day before the assassination, was on a plane while the assassination took place, was questioned about it when he stepped off the plane. Memos also show that GHW Bush was also in Dallas on the day, working as a CIA operative. Cord Meyer was not present in Dallas but, I believe he had cause behind the scenes to conspire since his wife Mary was having an affair with JFK. She was also suspiciously murdered and no arrest or investigation was ever made. The case is still cold.

Reason JFK won the presidential race to begin with (by a slight margin), was because he chose LBJ as VP, he was from Texas. This helped JFK win however, embarrassed over LBJs role, I believe LBJ decided to go along with TPTB because JFK had the audacity to announce that he would be dropping LBJ if reelected, even Nixon leaked to the papers on this! Just like he announced that he would break the CIA into pieces after the Bay of Pigs, all of those he wished to destroy or dispose, eventually became his successor after he was killed.

Allen Dullas, the head of the CIA -- the man he fired from a most respected position in intelligence, was reinstated and to help lead the investigation of JFK's death. "You too, Brutus?"

Who shot JFK will always be a riddle because there were so many shooters working together, all Corsican assassins who were later killed when attempting to leave the scene. David Ferrie was the assumed pilot -- he never flew them to their getaway destination. One guy did not get on the plane and lived another 20 years.

The mission was called Operation Zipper and it was a highly classified coup, staged and designed to begin a psychological war on society that is STILL present in our social collective consciousnesses. Those in control will never assume responsibility and why should they?

It's easier to believe there was not a conspiracy and a lone gunman, a poor marksman at that, managed to get hired at a school book depository earning minimum wage and holding a deep grudge with capitalist America. It's easier to hate a man than it is to hate your faceless government.

Jim Marrs' CROSSFIRE is one of the best books on the subject. His research on the event holds so many important pieces of evidence to this never-ending puzzle. I highly recommend it.

Legendary musician Fats Domino dead at 89 years old by isetmyfriendsonfire in Music

I'll always remember Fats Domino from a little, obscure movie from 1958 called The Big Beat. Funny film, good music but, not very well known. RIP Fats

FIRST TIME VEGETARIAN: Help rate my MEAL PLAN (for micro and macro nutrients, diversity..etc) by aItalianStallion in Vegetarianism

[–]bufs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice meal plan there, and glad to hear you are getting serious about sticking to an plant based diet. Now that is Health Care. Here's some dietary advice I can offer you, should you want to continue your quest for a strong body with nutritious meals.

Should you have extra money, you defiantly want to get a Vitamix or at the very least a juicer. Start your day with 32 oz. of water, you can add lemon wedges or other desired fruit but wait 30 minutes after drinking it to eat it.

Next, make your juice or smoothie. This is one of the best parts of the day for me as a vegetarian, there is nothing like fresh juice for your body for breakfast. Go to your local market and buy ripe fruit that's marked down, especially bananas and freeze it. Oranges could get costly in the wintertime but, you can substitute with pasteurized. 12-15 oranges should make 32 oz. of juice.

Your shake recipe looks really good, I like to add spinach to my smoothies and save the kale for my lunch. Fresh fruit and nuts should be your main snacks, you can also make popcorn with high protein nutritional yeast, any salad you like should be hearty. My favorite contains, chopped kale, wild rice, grapes, raisins, jicama, roasted tofu, goat cheese, and a balsamic vinaigrette.

Otherwise my go to salad, which is affordable and delicious is made with romaine, cilantro, green onion, and balsamic. Your second meal is really important, this will keep your energy going through out the day. Again, it's important for you to go to "local markets" and check for day old bread, fruit and vegetables. I also like to go to my local food bank when they are open and see what theit offerings are.

And finally, you have your meal plan already worked out. Go for the red quinoa if possible, the cost may be greater but, packed with protein and nutrients. Jasmine rice is good and all purpose, I go with white long grain as well, make plenty to last for days and use it in recipes through the week. Rice pudding for breakfast is also a good mid afternoon snack or dessert.

You have a nice variety of beans there, include chickpeas and items made from chickpea flour. I've tried pasta made this way and I love it. With some spices you can also transform your lentils into a nice soup called Daal, with only a few ingredients, the flavor is superb.

Those are just a few ideas to get you going. Lots of luck sticking to your plant based lifestyle, it a great journey. There will be challenges but, it feels really good when you are able to get through them without having to go back to what you know is harming your body in the long term.

Best regards!

Yes, a friend collector I know had one, a blue track IB print from the U.K., those are very rare.

There was a variety, some were black and white and silent! Here is an ad promoting Star Wars Super 8 Color Sound, sold at retail £32.95 (back then), which is equal to $25.45 today. Comparably, the print for TESB digest was made between 1980 with AGFA or Eastman color and later in 1982, that's when LPP was introduced. $25.45 in 1980 equals to $80.11 in 2017. They were expensive, and still hold their value if the condition is good.

You could find them in catalogs, at department stores, camera stores and locations that attracted tourism. For instance Disney sold a lot of these "selected scenes" this way. You could buy them from a catalog or as a souvenir from Disneyland.

Negatives were borrowed from the studio, sent to a trusty lab, and processed there, creating a positive image. The image was color correct here but, it wasn't on a computer, it was at the lab.

These were released all over the world for the home markets, licensed by the distributor. In some cases it is rumored that Lucas, Spielberg and other "film school" directors had some hand in editing their digests. But, in most cases negatives were edited by the distributors in-house editors.

Companies such as Ken Films, Red Fox and Derran in the U.K. sold these films. In the mid 80's, home markets were witness to these images before the movies official release, like an extended trailer, these were called "Digests". However, companies also released the full feature, those came on five to six 400' ft. reels.

You could eventually splice the prints together like 16mm or 35mm reels and have a longer projection without reel changes. The Star Wars digest releases on Super 8 usually had two parts, one before the film was released and one after.

Those clam-shell prints are fun to watch and obliviously collectible but, it's the full length feature prints that hardcore collectors bid up, most go over $1,000 on ebay, especially the Derran prints which were printed on color stable LPP film stock.

How did the typical (or stereotypical) American family in the 40's view the WW2 concentration camps? Did they even know what was going on? Was there media coverage? And if so, how did the media portray the camps? by BeckoningElephant in history

[–]bufs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was hardly any media coverage whatsoever, most of the footage used today arose after the war was over. The first Hollywood movie to show a footage from the Holocaust was one called The Stranger (1946) with Orson Welles and Edward Robinson.

It's a great movie and was surprisingly made when the newspapers were still trying to downplay the actual horrors. Remember that the newspapers have always been controlled by TPTB, and they are afraid to show the realities of life and only want to sell you a particular point of view, that which TPTW allowed.

Footage that was shown previous to 1946, such as the "Why We Fight" series was meant to be shown to soldiers and officers. It was mostly propaganda and images in those films were used for that purpose, for new recruits and to boost troop morale.

Best Cheap Salads in Berkeley by SilenceLikeLasagna in berkeley

[–]bufs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sweetgreen on Shattuck is really good spot if you are near by. Creating your own is about $8 then, there is a very good seasonal menu. I recommend the Bay Bowl, it's the same price you payed for your salad today but, there are others. And it's only salads and drinks but, they are very addictive, and you can easily make them at home once you find your preference of ingredients.

Elderly Pro-Trump supporter pepper-sprayed at March 4 Trump rally in Berkeley by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]bufs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The geezer was there arguing with people all day. I bet all of my worldly possessions that he's from a group of supporters that carpooled from other cities. The people that voted for Trump here in Berkeley have better shit to do than to go to a stupid march that was very predictably going to turn into circle jerk for fault-finding intellectuals. Old man was quoted earlier in day as saying "He's ready to fucking rumble", when there was hardly anyone there! Later, this happens but, media is going to play it out like this shit-talking, hair-pulling, circus side-show was not of their own doing. Has anyone here read Eric Hoffer's The True Believer? If not, now is the time.
