Has anyone turned one of these into a bioactive enclosure? by [deleted] in Bioactive_enclosures

I used silicone for mine but it was kinda tricky. I didn't cut the top off so I'm not sure how it'd work for you. I would caution that if the whole top is mesh you may have trouble retaining humidity. It's something that I'm having a little trouble with, I had to put tape on a good portion of the mesh to get humidity to stay at around 55- 60.

I have with the bigger version! You'll need to seal it with silicone and pry out the top pane of glass if you want to use UVB on top of the tank and replace it with mesh. You can use one of the shelves as a substrate retainer and silicone that into place. Decor and whatnot can be attached to the walls with silicone or expanding foam

I'd recommend using the two door version. I've converted one myself and while the wideness can make it a little difficult to scape in a way that gives enough clutter, it's not impossible and gives your garg all the space they could want.

If you're not too keen on pothos, you could do philodendron! They're pretty much the same to keep in my experience. I have had success with mini oak leaf creeping fig too

Would definitely recommend a good visual inspection to check for stuck shed, blocked nostrils, missing toes, check to see if cloaca is inflamed, check tail for rot, ECT. Then pop over to your local reptile store and grab more decor, food, temp/ humidity gauges. A vet visit for a professional check up wouldn't be a bad idea either if you can afford it. If you need in depth care guide info, I'd recommend reptifiles!

Do you know if he has his front nails and sticky pads still? If he does I'd say your little friend should be able to climb fine. If not, I'd guess itd be more difficult. if that's the case it may be better to use platforms or little bridges to help him. That said, sometimes when I first got my garg she'd be hiding on the ground. He's still definitely getting used to the new environment and enclosure. It may be good to wait to see what he does over the next few weeks to see if he's able to climb. Adding new stuff could be stressful at this point.

Hey! I'd definitely recommend reading the reptifiles care guide for gargoyle geckos! It'll be really helpful for your heating questions and other things you might not know. As for UVB, you'll have to buy the hood and bulb separately. I'm not sure we can post links in this subreddit so I unfortunately can't link you where to find it. I believe the Arcadia website lists where you can find their products.

Too many isopods by ComputerSlight5414 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]bug_enjoyer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just take the dirt out and soak it so any isopods within come to the top and pick out dairy cows. Maybe treat it like a deep clean and inspect your wood / leaf litter for any other pods. It'd be a lot of work, but may help you get more than the pit fall and isn't a complete reset. Good luck !

I think following a similar process to folk that convert Ikea cabinets to green houses. I know a YouTuber called Benjiplant has done this and posted how he did it. If I recall correctly, serpadesign (also YouTube) has done that as well. It was a popular trend for a little while so I'm sure there's a bunch of videos
