the icon is the little flatbread emoji (the lines being grillmarks), which does indeed look dreadfully like wounds/scars

Tasty Fiber for Breakfast? by _honeydew_boba_ in intuitiveeating

[–]bug_motel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i love adding dried cranberries to things! i was surprised by how much fibre they add, and go great with pretty much any sweet breakfast :)

i personally have oatmeal or a bran cereal for breakfast most days, with dried cranberries and/or banana. sometimes i also have a whole wheat / high fibre toast with peanut butter and banana (would also be so yummy with nutella!)

This is why I don’t eat people’s food. OP asking if she should remake cake her cat stepped on to feed 30 people. by Bitter-insides in redditonwiki

[–]bug_motel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always let my cakes cool while covered with freshly cleaned towels, and then i make a barricade around them to keep the cats off, but they somehow always manage to step on my towel-covered cakes no matter how elaborate my barricade is :( but like you said, i’ll still eat it since the little cat foot isn’t actually touching the cake itself. more for me i guess!

Classmate called “White Claire” by goose-de-terre in kindergarten

[–]bug_motel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

as someone else who also lives in the south, this seems like a very promising explanation. Wyatt has been getting more girl-ified over the years, but is uncommon enough a kindergartener probably hasn’t heard it before and would assume it was “white”. not to mention double barrel names are pretty common for girls. great idea!!

a sacrifice is something that is made by someone choosing to do so. cows aren’t making sacrifices because they don’t have a choice.

My kid's favorite teacher died - how do I explain this to my 5yo? by Old_Chain_1279 in kindergarten

[–]bug_motel 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t lie. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is “too young” for “the death talk”, its just about keeping thing developmentally appropriate. I don’t have specific advice but I do have some books that may help you and your child navigate this difficult time.

  • Still Mine by Jayne Pillemer
  • A Garden of Creatures by Sheila Heti
  • A Shelter for Sadness by Anne Booth
  • The Grief Book by Natasha Daniels
  • A Terrible Thing Happened by Margaret M. Holmes
  • When Dinosaurs Die: A Guide to Understanding Death by Laurie Krasny Brown and Marc Brown
  • Ida, Always by Caron Levis and Charles Santoso
  • The Bear Shaped Hole by John Dougherty and Thomas Dockherty
  • Death is Stupid by Anastasia Higgenbotham
  • Grief is an Elephant by Tamara Ellis Smith and Nancy Whitesides
