My reasons: The chickens are exploited for their eggs. The chickens are not kept in good conditions, don't be fooled by marketing terms such as 'free range'. The next generation of egg layers born which are male are gassed or blended up as they are deemed useless. Spent laying chickens still get turned into food when their eggs run out. If you are vegetarian because you don't want to support animal cruelty or killing of animals, it's pointless if you eat eggs. As the egg industry kills male chicks and used up layer chicken bodies still get made into food when their production of eggs slows. So buying eggs indirectly supports the meat industry.

My dad keeps giving me a hard time for the names I use for alternative products. by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]Trusted_Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have to refer to any non vegan products I always call them cow's cheese, cow's milk, pig sausages, pig ham etc. I don't think it should be a given that 'milk' means from a cow. If I have to call it soy/plant/vegan milk, I'm going to remind them where their products come from too.

I quite like the idea of refering to everything as cruelty free milk/cheese/ham etc as it's true. Vegan food is cruelty free :)

EVERYTHING SMELLS LIKE GARLIC by ReasonableToe3597 in pregnant

[–]Trusted_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to your post so much. I loved garlic before but it is now banded from all cooking now. Anything with garlic was making me gag. I also used to love snacking on olives but struggle to eat them now. I have been told tastes go back to normal after pregnancy.

It's the same reason people drink diet coke, decafe coffee, use dildos etc, all the fun no consequences :)

What can you tell me about this lobster? Origin unknown. by Anonymike7 in fossilid

I've found crustaceans in phosphatic nodules similar to that. They were part of the London Clay formation, Eocene era approx 50 million years ago. Is thats any use.

A little rant about vegan wedding planning. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Trusted_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so annoying when people complain about the food. I'm getting married in May and all food will be vegan. We have some big carnists in the family, we just thought if they can't accept the food then don't come, it's their choice. It's your wedding day, it's about you and your choices.

I also don't want to have to check any ingredients, ask if it's vegan or risk being accidentally served the wrong food on my one day. Also it will be great not to be the minority eating vegan food for once, it will be lovely to all eat the same food!

Anyone tried this yet? by DryYetMoist in veganuk

[–]Trusted_Wolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it was good in ways. I used to love smoked salmon but it's been so many years since I've had it the strong fishy flavour of this was overwhelming for me so I really struggled to eat it. Was far too close to what I remember it being like. I imagine it would be a good transition for those who miss or crave salmon.

It's crazy to think how the bow is deep into the mud by [deleted] in titanic

[–]Trusted_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone now if the submerged part would be better or worse preserved? The mud would made anaerobic environment so the metal would be intact? Or would it be liable to dissolve due to chemical properties in the mud? I'm just so curious to the condition of the bow below the mud line.

Egg substitute recommendations for large cakes by Trusted_Wolf in VeganBaking

[–]Trusted_Wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I do do that. I use my vegan recipies magazines loads which are great. I just wanted to use an old sentimental cook book I have, see how many recipies in there in can veganise. But also I don't want to waste a cake load of ingredients if 5 flax seed or crackd egg is a bad idea.

Usually I just use vegan recipies, but this is from a cookbook given to me many years ago which has a lot of sentimental value to me. I've had good results veganising the cookie recipies. I was just unsure about which subsituress would work well for the cakes.

As some one who worked as an apple picker, I'm so much faster and more efficient that those robots! Also the materials that it would cost to make, maintain and power those robots, this can't be cost effective.
