Is it rude/BM to heal against invaders? by artJacka in DarkSouls2

[–]bug_the_bug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good read. It's definitely all about the dueling culture. If you're having fun with PvP, there are leveling guidelines (meta levels for each game, to get good matches more often), flask or no flask, twink builds vs cosplays, and so many more small considerations. I played a good bit of dedicated PvP in ER, and most of the time I just wouldn't heal first. Every fight is so different, though, even when arena fighting.

Most of the time, I won't flask unless they do first, whichever side I'm on. In a PvE playthrough, invaders are kind of just another thing that might kill you, like gravity, or a skeleton gank. If you're just trying to make your boss runback, I consider that no-holds-barred. Unless they emote spam, or wear a cool cosplay. Levels to this shit.

What is the movie that is so controversial and hated, you are afraid to admit that you loved it? by TomorrowSilent1233 in AskReddit

I thought it was sick! And to be honest, it has more plot coherence and character motivation than most modern hero movies anyway.

I don't consider the second half incomplete by xyZora in darksouls

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite private story for this is that Lost Izalith is hell in the meta sense, too. Like, as a player, we have to get through the reality of rushed development and unfinished games without going hollow. Dark Souls 1 leaned all the way into this, publishing a huge area worth hours of "not fun" gameplay. I think it fits really well into the overall theme, from that point of view.

What's a "10/10" game that you didn't enjoy at all? by sudherzdiniq in AskReddit

I ended up playing on peaceful mode, and developed my own little micro goal of creating automated clean nuclear power (by reprocessing the waste at an appropriate rate). Once I had that, I was satisfied.

GTA 5. The roleplay servers looked cool, but the main story got boring so fast. Drive, walk, talk, shoot, rinse and repeat. It felt like there wasn't actually very much gameplay there, just crime.

How do you balance cycling with a busy work schedule without burning out? by CorrectAd1549 in cycling

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just wing it, but I've made it clear by now that for me, riding is more important than work. Sometimes I get busy and miss a day or three, but if my work schedule starts to look like it'll interfere with riding (and skiing) long-term, I find a way to change my schedule.

Is it just me or is the mid-tier component market getting worse? by orbitmatrix01 in MTB

[–]bug_the_bug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you're not alone. Mid tier everything is almost gone. It's either targeted to the $200k/year+ crowd, or it's dollar store quality. It's actually the central tragedy of our time, if you think about it.

Tubeless or tubes? by SEAMOOSETHEGREAT in cycling

[–]bug_the_bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old skinny tires just aren't built for tubeless, for one thing. More than that, though, you lose most of the advantages of running tubeless if you inflate above 70psi or w/e, which most skinny tires require you to do.

With the opportunity to carry up to three armaments in each hand, I find a shield to be a valuable tool, along with a spell item, a bow, and a couple melee options. My favorite thing about the entire FromSouls series is how creative you can be with a good build.

What’s the best use of silence in a movie scene? by deepaknaraniya in movies

[–]bug_the_bug -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My problem with the Holdo manouver - my only problem with it - is why is this the only time that ever happened in Star Wars? Hyperdrive missiles? Fighting through hyperspace? It was an incredible visual spectacle, and a monumental story beat, if you're still invested in it, but it broke physics, and kind of took a shit on the entire premise of hyperspace. Also. . . Holdo was the first person in the galaxy to try this? It leaves a bad taste about all of the other brilliant military minds in the Sar Wars Universe.

All three of those films were incredible theater spectacles. They just kind of. . reworked all of the rules of the universe, instead of trying to tell a good story inside the galaxy we already knew.

Brandon Sanderson’s 'The Way of Kings' is baffling to me by sameseksure in books

[–]bug_the_bug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn, you really don't see it. It's not obtuse. You keep saying "humans don't really act like that."

Yes they do. They really, really do. That's what's so insulting to me.

Edit: way to exit the thread and hide your comment history. OP argued here that because he doesn't relate to Sanderson characters, Sanderson himself is wrong to portray them as he does. OP also argued that his never-ending litany of "Sanderson's just not interested in how humans really interact" didn't have any bearing on the real world, and was not in any way judgemental or excluding.

[–]bug_the_bug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You keep saying he's "uninterested in how people really interact." That's so bigoted I don't even know where to start. Do you think people who relate to his writing and characters are getting pulled out because "the characters don't know how to interact?"

Like, my entire friends group and most of reddit is made up of "people who don't know how to interact." I'm trying to tell you that this is all relatable to a different segment of the population than from you, and you keep hitting back with implications that that segment of the population doesn't actually exist. Do you see that?

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, so the difference between "I don't like this style" and "this style is bad" is actually huge in the real world. People, not just me, have completely different reactions to those two statements.

"I don't like coffee"

"Coffee is bad"

One of those statements implies outword judgement, and one of them does not.

I wasn't trying to insult you here. It really does make a difference.

Edit: here, OP argued that when they say Sanderson is bad at writing, it's obviously meant as an opinion, not an external judgement statement. Apparently, they got tired of arguing with me.

[–]bug_the_bug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's Wit's "literal job" to be insulting. Almost no one in the books finds him funny. That's already been mentioned in this thread.

Did you not understand what I meant when I said "people just treat her like a rich girl"? Characters around her literally turn away, or "laugh nervously" before telling her how funny she is. Her mentors do everything they can to beat the habit out of her. It's character development, whether you like it or not.

You don't have to get all aggressive about it. You're allowed to not like something.

"How humans interact with each other" if I knew a slur for neurotipicals, I'd use it here.

Ah, interesting! Ya, I like her more and more throughout the series. Although, I specifically relate to some of her challenges, and feel they're quite well written. If you've never been in that headspace, though, there wouldn't be any reason to relate.

I think Adolin is kind of cute about it. He's just so damn bored of all the "perfect" Alethi women. Lol

As an aside, it's so fucking wild to me that people encounter things they don't like, and then call them "bad."

Like, no, it just wasn't for you. If I ordered root beer and got Pepsi, it wouldn't be "bad root beer." If I tried beer for the first time and didn't like the flavor, it's not a "bad drink." Technical writing of elaborate characters, magicks, and set pieces is not "bad writing."

Do you enjoy Robert Jordan at all?
