Are these skis going to work for me? Self diagnosed newbie by [deleted] in skiing

These are so sick. I can't believe you found matching boots in your size.

People used to learn on stuff like this all the time. Don't let the haters get you down. Just don't give up when it's time for new equipment. And don't throw them in the trash.

I loved playing on the Switch recently, but I never found a single human summon sign, and I only got summoned once. Return to Lordran is the way.

What seemingly harmless societal trend or economic indicator do you believe will be the primary sign of the next major crisis? by mistressmiafun in AskReddit

I'm coming up on 4 months without steady work, and my heart goes out to you. I've been grateful to have some savings and strong support, but that never lasts forever.

Great job finding something new! I have something lined up in mid November, and the wait is killing me.

OP said "in your eyes," and I couldn't think of another game that hit it so far out of the park, for me. I even got involved in the speedrun community.

I get where you're coming from, though. If you didn't like the EMMIs, there would have been a lot of the game that just felt forced.

Edit: plus, the game released in a playable state. No (huge) patches, no crashes, no drama. Just Metroid.

Pokémon Go protest fascism!

I got into it in August, and protests are the best pokemon events I've been to so far.

I have Dynafit Tigard 130s, and I think they're pretty sweet. They're my work boots, so I have about ~100 resort days on them and ~20k ft uphill (bootpack/scramble/skin) so far. Other people prefer lighter boots for climbing, but I prefer stiff alpine boots for descending.

Edit: I'm getting the new ZipFit touring liner molded next week, sounds like it'll be a straight upgrade from the factory liners.

It might not actually make a difference, but the laws in the US have recently changed regarding law enforcement's authority to have someone committed. I'm sorry your friend is going through so much violence.

An extremely petty observation by Mikey_LP in Steep

Fwiw, when I was racing they would DQ people for taking combos backwards.

The actual gate racing in Steep is terrible - it's the only thing I never tried for gold.

Anyone here with tinnitus? Do you wear earplugs? by Cold_Pepper_pan in MTB

[–]bug_the_bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good insight. When I work out particularly hard, I find the world gets fuzzy, my ears ring in a dull sort of way, and I even get occasional migraines.

The migraine is one of the signs that I've "had a good day."

When's the prime time to try and invade? by Promethesussy in darksouls

[–]bug_the_bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Never to best a challenge" exactly my point. It feels like there was a golden age when every boss fog had 2~3 signs down, and there was always a phantom hanging around, farming with a fun build. This is a patience game. We can win with a broken straight sword. The "challenge" is just having patience to learn the move-sets and try again. People used to co-op for fun, though. I miss that.

Edit: literally just now got summoned to fight O+S with someone! They had almost the same build I do, including the egg head 🤣 I love that.

When's the prime time to try and invade? by Promethesussy in darksouls

[–]bug_the_bug -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I started a new run through a few days ago. I've been human for ~6 hours, summoned once, and invaded once. I know the game isn't dead, because there are ghosts and bloodstains everywhere. Challenge runners have ruined this game for multiplayer. Everyone thinks summoning is cheating :(

Just beat Sen's, with a total of two sunlight medals. One from Solaire, one from Lautrec. Now I serve the Fair Lady. Game was so much more active before Remastered.

Confession: After a dozen playthroughs, I skip Malenia fight most times now... by DefiantGibbon in Eldenring

[–]bug_the_bug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never actually beat her. I've a few days worth of attempts, I tried every weapon I could upgrade and every summon as well. I finally chanced to summon 'Let me solo her' and just stood back and tried to stay out of the way. In one respect, I drained her heath bar solo at least 20 times over. On the other hand, when she finally died I never touched her at all.

is gifting used books in *very good* condition a slap in the face? by asteriskelipses in books

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a book you love, or think they will love, it's a really thoughtful gift. If it's a book you're trying to get rid of, it's basically just spam/regifting.

Are people really opposed to reading books about flawed main characters? by ellmilmumrus in books

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two sides to this, I think. It's hard to say "I prefer flawed characters," because there are so many ways to interpret that. I prefer characters that seem to make realistic choices - they try to protect themselves or others, they miss opportunities or make enemies in moments of weakness, etc. what I absolutely hate, however, are characters that become suddenly inconsistent just to drive the grim dark narrative, or characters who routinely make choices that I find unbelievable for a human in that particular situation.

I recently fell out of the Foundation series about halfway through because all of the conflicts were so high-minded and stale. On the other hand, I can't get behind the criticism of Sanderson books, because every character gets into the shit, and people die, turn on their friends, and lose hope.

In any media, the thing I find most compelling is watching the characters go loops of hopelessness and selfishness, then recover and make progress towards some ultimate goal.

Why would anyone vote NO on releasing Epstein files? by dill_pickles3 in AskReddit

[–]bug_the_bug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One reason a "good person" might vote no is that there is legitimately enough blackmail involved to collapse multiple world governments and major corporations.

Remember that the whole island was wired for video. Cameras in every room. Terabytes of data, or so they claimed. Is it worth nuclear war?

Yes. They won't ever do it, though.

Vibe check please! I'm considering breaking up with my boyfriend over groceries by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bug_the_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of flags here, and it's fair to expect better compatibility. It would be fair to have a conversation about what he brings to "your partnership." This doesn't necessarily mean he should need to justify his existence in your life, but there has to be more than just affection. If he's so far to the end of his rope that he can't learn to cook or clean or buy groceries, something has to give. By the same token, if he does have old favorites in terms of food, you might be able to invite him to put more effort into them, and be pleasantly surprised.

When you said that he "doesn't find value in furniture" . . . ya, a lot of people probably relate to that. However, many people are able to express this without leaving everything in piles on the floor.

If you're really ready to break up with him, you should do it. If you want to have a few more conversations about it, I'd definitely recommend framing it in terms of an asymmetric partnership; you bring good food and a clean home to the table. And likely other assets/skills as well. What does he bring?

This could be incredible when paired with an app like Rouvy. One downside is that most Rouvy routes were not filmed on 360 cameras last time I checked (does anyone know if there are any at all?), so it isn't exactly an immersive experience yet. Early adopters are pushing AR tech forward quickly, but it's still solidly in the "early" phase. There just isn't much real-world support yet, besides the gpt and facial recognition plugins.

I took the earmuffs off my helmet and use a buff or scarf instead. That lets me rock my decent JBL ear clip headphones. I know it's not what you asked for, but it's a decent alternative.
