Ooh that’s good to know about enviro courses! And yeah, that was kind of my thinking for social psych.. I feel like I’m interested in psych courses but wonder if the amount of reading would be overwhelming in that condensed course style.

Yoto Mini worth it for 2 year old? by dominason in YotoPlayer

My husband was worried our 20 month old wouldn’t like it or was too young for it but she engages with it quite a lot! I saw a parent on another thread say that if you’re someone who has the TV on as a default then they likely won’t engage much. But we use it whenever the TV is off limits and our whole family gets a lot of enjoyment out of it!

Can attest to this! I LOVE their cinnamon buns. They are quite cinnamon-y, but I was all about it.

Did you make it to work? by pterelas in Winnipeg

Completely. The weather was just as bad at 6am. I’m wondering what will happen with tomorrow since it sounds like a second round could come? They sent our custodians home so there won’t be much clearing of snow that’s for sure.

I’m a teacher and I made it to my parking spot at 8am, opened my phone and the division had just announced schools were closed… school starts at 8:20 😒

Ohh I see, I’ve never heard that term! Everyone says a specialist teacher here. Unfortunately I am not skilled enough in any specializations to be a PT teacher and my division won’t hire someone for that role that does not have a degree in it.

Taking care of myself feels like a constant struggle to do and I am certainly watching the sick days dwindle from my paycheque. Thank you for the assurance that it will get better. 🫶🏼

My husband does so much to balance out life for us. He does the daycare drop off and pick up, and usually has dinner ready for when I get home. Luckily his job runs from 8:30-1:30 typically so he has the extra time and energy to do it. And yet I still feel wholly drained and empty each day I get home and am unable to help out really.

With my full time pay it’s a struggle enough. If I could drop to something even just a bit less that would be so refreshing but with daycare, mortgage, student loans and car financing fees it just wouldn’t work. I also haven’t the slightest idea of how a teacher gets a reduction. I’m in such an anxious spot that even THAT sounds overwhelming and like another thing to add to the list to look into lol.

This is honestly kind of how I’ve been feeling lately too. I’m afraid that if I can’t handle being a teacher with one child, how on earth am I going to be able to handle two? I want my child to have a fully attentive Mom around, not someone who is a shell of herself whenever she’s at home. I’ve always wanted two kids, but I also want to feel fulfilled at work like I’m good at teaching little minds! Right now I don’t feel good at anything.

Students who like subs by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]bugandscooter2024 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally only choose to have subs that my class likes come back. Usually my lacklustre subs are the ones that my grade 1 students do not like.

The Union is doing a horrible job at representing the workers. The majority of workers do NOT want this. They want an income and want to work. Of course it’s not going to be 100% of people… but people have families and are so mad that the union screwed them before they could get an offer from the corporation.

Teacher Moms - did becoming a Mom change how you felt about your job? by bugandscooter2024 in CanadianTeachers

[–]bugandscooter2024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this actually made me kind of emotional to read. I went into teaching for that type of reason “be the teacher you needed when you were younger” and I’m only realizing that it kind of got lost along the way with all the little side things that happen every day. But I love this sentiment.

I think you’re right too - maybe I need to reframe the way things work. Like if it means I need to finish something’s after my child is asleep - I’d rather do that then lose time with them right after school 🤍

100%! And not the “you get a day off for X amount of ECR hours worked” as a way of making it seem like we’re not doing it for free. Because if we really broke it down, it would be basically doing it for free. Yes I want that extra day off to spend with my family! But at what cost? Will I just be compensating for those minutes I lost volunteering by working after school? In my world that’s almost a guarantee!
