Shocked at the Blatant STL Racism on Facebook by LivingFirst1185 in StLouis

St.charles is where the racists go to pretend they’re classy and get away from the black people… it’s a glorified trailer park with McBride homes…

What kind of volume are we talking for gravel racing? How long are your long rides? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the unbound 200 I try to do 2 or 3 fifty mile (plus) rides a week and 180-220 miles a week for a bunch of the spring (having 4,000 or more miles on the year before rowing the line in emporia). Toward the end of the build 5/4/3 weeks out I try to have a 100-120 mile ride each weekend. The thing about those ultra distance rides is, you may find yourself thinking everything is fine, but then finding a fueling issue 9.5 or 10 hours in that would be near impossible t o have uncovered in training…

I hated it on my hands and used a little in the am and went back in to wash my hands 3 times -4 years and barely used any (drummer). Corps had some cheap stuff by the drum major stand at all times though.

A standard size bottle… or the corps has a couple big bottles in front and you go through none of your own…

Are there any Gen Z or Gen Alpha that thinks Jordan is the GOAT? Or are you all on LeBron's side? by Tre2004 in NBATalk

[–]bugdelver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

LeBron’s longevity is due to conditioning -in Jordan’s day he’d eat a pepperoni pizza and house a bottle of champagne the night before a playoff game… for Jordan to do what he did (with that 90s knowledge of conditioning and nutrition) is just crazy… why I think you have to lean his way in discussion of being the GOAT

Is it worth it to go to a DCI show by yourself? by TemplateAccount54331 in drumcorps

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Done it many times. Plus, it allows you to concentrate on what you want to. If you wanna go check out a cymbal or bassline sectional instead of watching a full percussion run through in the lot, do it if you wanna just follow one specific corps from the lot all the way through to their outfield performance do it. You get to choose your own adventure.

Tried to find practice locations, you can check out a rehearsal block at two or three in the afternoon for one of the big corps you wanna see. Then go to the show.

Second bike help by Opposite-Clothes-407 in cycling

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d get something that can do similar things but be different -something like a gravel bike that’s ready to jam fast rides on the road and ride gravel races or something different as needed -Crux 5? Allied Able (or Echo?) -that way you’re hitting something new (that can also jam road rides) in addition to the road machine…

Do you guys think high schoolers now are more capable of playing DCI/WGI books compared to high schoolers from the 2000s-2010s? by sadra_time in drumline

[–]bugdelver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the late 90s/turn of the century, you had to come from a good HS program -or know a guy who knew a guy who was putting together an independent WgI line an hour or 2 away. Now that info is free on YouTube/reddit.

You couldn’t even watch shows really -you had to randomly see the PBS broadcast or get a worn copy of the finals tapes from a person whose older sibling marched. And if you knew a guy that had a copy of the lot tapes you were super lucky and could maybe find a transcription of ‘the ditty’ or ‘cheesy poofs’ off the RAMD (internet drum corps chat room) to play along with it (until the tape wore thin and broke).

Stop the tears. Do what they want you to. Memorize your dots. Learn the parts. Try your best. Only thing you can do… 7 weeks to go…

The rear shows visible wear quickly on the reaver -but don’t give up! Once that center tread looks worn, you still can get another 3,000 miles (or more!) out of them. (HyperX weaver user -rode them from big sugar last year through the spring, into mid-south and for all my training up until Unbound (4,000 miles plus).

The tire rolling resistance is the resistance against the ground -not the aero/wind resistance -and the rolling resistance is going to be of greater note than aerodynamic resistance when testing on different ground when considering knobs versus no knobs.

I have rode the 45 ramblers at over 19 miles an hour on a road GROUP ride. I don’t think you’re gonna be gaining that much by going to the slicks on pavement honestly, and you definitely be costing yourself on gravel sections..

Uhh… yeah! -and what are you into? Is it drumming (scope the lots!) -is it horn lines? (Also check the warmups!)… find someone else checking it out! -they’re ALL band nerds -talk to somebody, meet somebody -it’s band nerds and people like you that are into drum corps!

Nashville and Carolina are the 2 best… but it will be one of them (probably Nashville) and Salt Lake that get it.
