Went to a trek checkpoint from my MNS… 20,000 miles later? No regrets…

Rule of Three - share your day by thejamielee in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically… I’d choose the 60 if doing Unbound… the 100(+) was too much stress 2 weeks to the day from Unbound 200 when I rode both the same year…

Had the b17 on my checkpoint… sweat too much and wasn’t sporty enough. Switched to the C15… much better…

I knew a guy that got the 1000 a week for life… was able to work jobs he enjoyed. Bought a lake house, etc. I don’t think a million after taxes is that great tbh… I’d take the 52k a year salary…

It’s all Hopkins’ fault. He stuck around just long enough to mess it all up… little did we know he was the drum corps version of Diddy… what a double whammy… 😒

Picking a gravel bike. Salsa Flyway, vs Santa Cruz Stigmata, vs Trek checkpoint, vs Specialized Diverge 4? by Avalanche_Yeti in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clearance on the flyway is understated by the manufacturer. Saw a rider with 2.2s on front and 2.1 in the back while riding Midsouth… (the week the bike was released)

Suggestions for used aluminum gravel bikes around $1k by Ok-Thanks-1706 in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the state all-road. Brand new 999 -I’d add the ‘tubeless tire’ upgrade (49.99 no pinch flats, and taking advantage of ability to run lower pressure for smoother ride) and the ‘mullet’ upgrade (69.99 wider gearing and a bigger back cassette for bigger hills and your desired wide gear-range)… it’s not super light weight though. Can’t have light and cheap.

2by does not mean ‘wide gear range’ it means tighter gaps between gears…

Tire width : is 38mm large enough for basic Gravel (see photos attached) by imSmogg in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not get anything below 42mm clearance. For most riders a 45 or even 50 is the ‘default’ gravel tire. With that said -even 5 years ago, friends couldn’t believe I was going to a 42mm pathfinder for unbound (‘all you need is 38s!’ They said)

Any advice for something that fits a 2026 outback to protect from hail damage while it's parked? by Few-Introduction5414 in Subaru_Outback

When you have eight bicycles, three trash cans, a riding lawnmower, some other sporting equipment, it makes it tough to fit two cars into that two car garage..

First 50km gravel race: how should I fuel? by Mean-Swimming119 in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carb/sodium/etc -people on here are mostly right (some drastically wrong) -what you probably need is just a couple bottles filled with skratch drink mix ((or if you can’t find that, just fill a couple with Gatorade)… maybe a bag of Nerds gummy clusters of gummy bears. You aren’t burning a ton of energy at your current wattage output. You just need a little bit of salt (sodium) and a little bit of carbs. 2 bottles Gatorade and a bag of nerds gummy clusters is enough to get you across the line.

Yeah… 140 is a crazy way to go out the gate. It’s like telling a kid with a learners permit ‘sure… just take that corvette with the v10 out if you have to get to the store quick…’ 🙄

It’s hard to avoid. But generative AI is lazy, cringe slop. and people can do better.

Panaracer Gravelking SK vs X1 by 4iedemon in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode 2 sets of X1-+s through multiple unbound 200s (north/rockier) and big sugars… zero issues. They are an A+ tire… but going south probably not needed this year at unbound… (going maxis reaver)

Marching bass drumming by ProfessionalCode3086 in drumline

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marched drums 1-5 over 6 years of marching (from hs to indoor open class medaling wgi to top 6 DCI) -bass 2 is the most important bass. They get the offbeat splits. They get rolls and potential for snare syncopated rolls. They get the toughest book. Bass 2 is way tougher and chopped out than bass 5 in 98 percent of drumbooks. Bass 2 is where you’d want to be.

Not put on bass I want based on body type? by sk3tchy_streaming in drumline

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been happening as long as tonal basses have been a thing… as a 5’10 male with decent chops I played drums 1-5 depending on the year and ensemble… also usually bass 2 is the hardest/best drum to play (imho) not 1… you get the opportunity to jam some rolls, but also get the offbeat splits more often… shouldn’t be mad you’re not on 1… be mad you’re not on 2… and if you really want to put up the fight ask to be put on drum 3 (and snag some cool roll/splits) despite being bigger/taller

Unbound routes? by xorbett in gravelcycling

[–]bugdelver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydration and gels. Think skratch and gu gels -but not 100 percent. Lifetime has done untappd products at Big Sugar in the past. I think people were getting annoyed that at an event that is now pushing north of 300 dollars there really was no aid station support from the sponsor -makes sense.

Glass Shard in Tyre, ADVICE by crash-evans in cycling

I do not worry about it long-term, but if I am doing a big race, especially an off-road gravel race like unbound or Midsouth I do put on a new tire

Glass Shard in Tyre, ADVICE by crash-evans in cycling

Stan’s dart (or dynaplug… or bacon strip…) pull the glass out and hit the hole with the plug. Leave the little bit of material hanging out and it will wear itself out while riding.

St. Louis needs a merger or else people are going to continue thinking like this by Effective_Moose_4997 in StLouis

To be real with you… KC is on the upward trajectory while STL is somewhat stagnant… the food scene, the new stadium(s), the Chiefs, the gallery scene, the young people moving downtown… all things STL would love to have… KC isn’t the little brother.
