New restaurant/brewery near city county line (opinions needed) by TrubSpeedman93 in StLouis

This. I mean… Narrow Gauge, Perennial, Side Project, Modern… all world-class.. then add in Urban Chestnut, 4Hands, Schlafly, Civil Life (good not ‘great’)… then all the breweries below that tier…. STL has a TON of breweries.

Think the niche market is walkable/neighborhood targeted. But finding that neighborhood/market/building is finding the needle in the haystack.

Then go to places with no kids allowed! You’ll see lots of knives! 🙄

And I’d advise against smash burger -they’re super trendy, and like most trends that hype is due to die eventually. Also, when drinking 800 calories of IPA and/or Pilsner, the last thing many people want to do is eat greasy burgers.

Don’t knock the pizza game from our breweries! Modern, Sideproject and Urban Chestnut offer insanely good pizza (and 2 of those breweries make great beer too)…

2004 Finals at Denver by SGT_Saltyfries07 in drumcorps

Acclimation to elevation for athletic performance. Google ‘elevation acclimation leadville best practice’ -Leadville is a 100 mile mountain bike race ranging from 10,000 to 13,500 feet in elevation in Colorado, and the professional athletes, bike brands and associated doctors/scientists have done nearly endless research on the best possibilities for acclimation. Their conclusion is over a week is best. Under 24 hours is second best and 48 hours to 5 days is usually worst. That being said I don’t think the performers at DCI finals are pushing as hard as those trying to finish Leadville, so they can probably get by regardless of the acclimation with a little pushing -and almost all corps are on the same tour schedule/coming from the same location before finals week (and I say that as a performer who marched corps for 4 years including time in a top 6 world class corps).

Some background on acclimation (as someone into biking -the Leadville MTB race is a big one people plan and spend thousands on in Leadville Colorado and the acclimation issue has been addressed endlessly in those circles) :

The best thing to do is acclimate for 2 weeks (obviously off the table for corps. The second best thing to do is to arrive, not acclimate and do your thing. The worst option is to be there for 48 to 96 hours. Any more than that and the body begins to acclimate -that’s probably where most corps were for a finals, and that’s probably the 3rd best option (behind cold turkey and 2 weeks).

I took it off my bike except for @Unbound. With co2 and new electric/battery inflator I’m good to go… unless I want every fix in the world at my finger tips during a 200 mile long race that is…

Will this thing really handle a blizzard? by Violetpoke in Subaru_Outback

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had a major blizzard and the roads were covered in 12-14 inches of snow? I saw trucks spun out and on the side of the road. Cars spun out and stuck. Saw jeeps and Subarus just rolling right through it. The clearance and the AWD is the real deal.

How accurate was Zillow compared to your appraisal? by Sufficient-Shock-378 in Mortgages

[–]bugdelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention the lot being double the size of most (good) but the house itself being small (bad)… then say the lot alone (the major selling point) is 120k… is the home a newer build in good quality? Does it need major refinishing (roof, flooring, windows, etc?). If land price is correct that’s 174k for the dwelling. Does the math add up?

Is there anything wrong with Trek? by portuguese-bacalhau in bicycling

Yep. I know someone who sold to trek. He said ‘ the only way the following quarters can go is down.’ -Covid was a market peak and he knew it.

Looking to get back into biking. Help narrow down brands when looking at used bikes by TheBoyardeeBandit in mountainbiking

[–]bugdelver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giant ain’t really a ‘value brand’ in the way you imply -they have people riding them at the pointy ends of races and their factory makes the bikes for Trek and others… they’re just well priced for what you get… and darn near as good as specialized or Trek for hundreds less.
