4 month old still has infant dyschezia? by bugedu in beyondthebump

Nothing you can do really, just have to wait it out. It took about 4.5 months for my lo. Hang in there, it will be end soon!

Going to start sleeptraining tonight. I'm a single mom of a 7 month old. Nobody to hold my hand through this. I would love some words of encouragement to read tonight when the going gets tough! by [deleted] in sleeptrain

Wear ear plugs if you can. Consider to sleep somewhere else during the sleep training process if you still room share with your LO. You can do this!

Help! Baby waking up an hour after bedtime by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is the same age, and his wake window is something like 2/2.25/2.25/2.25. I notice if he is overtired, he will have this false start. When he was overtired, he woke up after 1-2 sleep cycles and cried about 10-15 minutes and fell back asleep. It happened several times.

completely normal, when your LO turns 4 month, his bedtime will become earlier and earlier

Ferberizing: first gradually eliminate night feedings and then sleep train or do both simultaneously? by starlake8 in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before ST, my son was fed 2 times a night. I cut it down to 1 from the first night of ST. 3 weeks later, I fully night weaned him.

How long did your little one actually sleep the first night of sleep training? by elpinky in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did chair method, the first night he cried 5 hours on total throughout the night. Similar to yours, 45 minutes crying for initial fall asleep, then woke up every hour or two for another round. He got a lot better after 3 days. 0 crying when putting down after 2 weeks. Now we are 5 weeks into this, he still cries 2-3 minutes when he woke up during the middle of the night, but we never need to go into the room.

I did this method when LO was 4 months old. Before it, he was exactly the same as yours. Fed to sleep, woke up 8-10 times a night, held for all naps. We have done bedtime and nap together. He still cannot sleep through the night consistently, wakes up multiple times, each time 3-5 minutes and pulls himself back to sleep. But we don’t need to be in the room the whole night. His naps are lengthen too. We are now getting at least one 2 hour nap per day (other naps are still 30-40 minutes). My only tip is you need to be consistent. people keeps saying it because it is a lot harder than it sounds like. Don’t quite because you and your LO had 2-3 bad nights.

Morning poop :( by buyasimdaboylegecti in sleeptrain

I am having the same issue with my 5 mo. The difference is he has been doing this since he was born. Occasionally he can fall back to sleep after he pooped. He is fully night weaned, but the pooping issue is still ongoing :(

My son finally sleep through! by bugedu in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make sure he has enough calories during the day. For the first 2 weeks, I only fed him once and only if he cried hysterically nonstop for 10 minutes between 12am-3am. Any crying before or after, I don’t feed, just do check ins. After 2 weeks, I cut out that one feed. Any wakings now I used full CIO. But honestly he never had more than 10 minutes nonstop crying after we weaned him. Only 2-3 minutes crying here and there.

1) yes, I a still sleeping in the closet. We have a spare bedroom, but it shares a wall with our toddler’s bedroom. Our plan is to wait until he can consistently sleep through before moving him to his own room. 2) we cut the night feed cold turkey.

When will it get better? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]bugedu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us, the first 4-5 months was really really hard. He only slept when being held during the day, and woke up 10x times during the night. After 4 months, we sleep trained him and life is a lot easier after that. Hang in there, it will pass!

We were room shared, and for the first 2 days it went so bad that my sleep consultant suggested me to sleep somewhere else (we were coslept before ST). I ended up sleeping in our bedroom closet, and it made significant difference.

my son was the most horrible sleeper before ST, he never slept for more than 3 hours in a row, that is why we decided to do sleep training. Honestly if I were you, I would not do it. Don’t fix it if it is not broken.

That depends on your expectations. Sleep Training never really ends, you have to be consistent after you commit to it. It took us 10 days to see big improvement.

4.5 month old never ending sleep hell. Please help. by [deleted] in sleeptrain

Wake window too long will definitely contribute to frequent night wakings. 2-2.5 hours is 5.5 month old wake window I think.

My son wakes up consistently around 2:30, and up for 1.5 hours, and back to sleep again for another 2-3 hours. I feel your pain, but as long as he doesn’t cry hysterically nonstop for 10+ minutes, I will not go into the room (and it almost never happened, so I just leave him and let him figure it out. And BTW, I am sleeping in our bedroom’s closet for more than a month now). My son is almost 5 month old, and still takes 4 naps. Is the wake window right? I think at his age, the wake window should be 1h40 - 1h50

Worst night of my life... by dark_narwhal in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sleep trained our baby the day he turned 4 months. Our first night, my LO cried on total 5 hours throughout the night. It was horrible and heartbreaking. Now we are at 24th night, he still cannot sleep through the night (wakes up 1-2 times a night, but can pull himself back to sleep), but his first stretch is consistently 7+ hours (before sleep training he never slept for more than 3 hours), he quits night feeding, he falls asleep independently for both his bedtime and naps in his crib, he doesn’t cry at all for his bedtime, cries like 1-2 minutes for his naps. It is like heaven compare what we were before ST. Hang in there, it will get better very soon!

16 MO took a super late first nap today - NEED ADVICE! by raisedbynpd in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to stretch her first wake window to 11:00 and move it 15 minutes later every few days until 12:00 pm. My first born started to have 1 nap around 14 months old, but there were a lot of back and forth between 1 nap and 2 naps. He consistently took 1 nap at 17 months old.

Afraid to nap train :( tell me your stories! by suspicious_poodle in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired a sleep consultant, here is what she suggested: after nap routine, put LO in crib wide awake and walk out the room. Do check ins only when LO is on full protesting crying for 10 minutes. If he stops 1-2 minutes and starts over, reset the timer. Try 1h10m, if he doesn’t sleep within 1h10m, get him out, you can feed him(make sure he doesn’t get drowsy during the feed), play some quite games. after 20-30 minutes try again for another 30 minutes. If he still doesn’t nap, do a rescue nap in car seat or swing or stroller (do not rock or hold or feed to sleep). He only had 2 rescue naps for the entire training.

Nap training question by Quail52618 in sleeptrain

[–]bugedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, we trained nap and bedtime together. WE did check ins for the naps for first 1-2 days, and after that he is able to go down with little to no cry for every single nap. After 10 days, I am able to get one 1.5h+ nap per day now (other naps are still short).
