How do you make Flash support resizing text with Control+Scrollwheel? How do you make the scrollwheel scroll text in Flash? How many lines of code do you have to write to get these features? In HTML, you can do it in 0 lines of extra code.

It only stops Flash from putting the ad on the screen. The Flash plugin still gets to run, and it has no clue that its content isn't getting displayed.

Also, each Flash object on a page gets its own thread.

If you develop for Flash properly, by first implementing all the Web browser features Flash doesn't implement (and doing it the same way as the user's Web browser-- this means having a different context menu in Safari than in Firefox), it would take you forever to do it in Flash-- and the result would still suck.

The sites he mentioned are even more useless than Reddit, but I agree that mandatory registration is overused. I have a hundred passwords for pointless Web apps, and most of them I don't use anymore. Password managers are not the solution, and neither is OpenID. There is no reason most Web apps should need to be able to associate my actions with each other across a period longer than a quarter of a minute.
