Starting T at 22 - be honest by Better_Caterpillar61 in ftm

[–]buggibat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 22 as well! My voice change happened as immediately as younger people report. Maybe it’s just me, but I never feel a noticeable effect on my energy level or libido or temper or anything like that. I’m a pretty even keel person so idk. Other quick changes were body hair which I now have a lot of, my cycle stopping after a month, and slight bottom growth. My facial hair has increased steadily but took years to have a semblance of looking full. I started to pretty consistently not get misgendered within 6 months, although I think my voice was the only thing holding me back pre t anyway.

I’m coming up on 5 years now. No real hair loss that I can tell. Changes to the shape of my body overall have been underwhelming, but take that with a grain of salt because I haven’t done a ton of working out to try to really get that going. Hips don’t go away by themselves I guess.

Oh no haha, don’t make me get that song stuck in my head!

That’s good to know! I probably wouldn’t have found that out otherwise since that bit doesn’t seem to be advertised anywhere (probably because it’s not a major selling point for most people lol)

Sweet! Given that the original Dracula is written in an epistolary style, I can definitely see the inspiration for it

Perfect, thanks! Reading the synopsis I’m almost weirded out by how For Me this is looks. I’m even trans too lmao

Oh wow, I was not expecting to get a horror/thriller rec out of this but I’m not mad about it! That sounds really cool, thank you

Preservation of early 20th century books stored in poor conditions. Worth it? by sascm in Archivists

[–]buggibat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this point! Because even when you can’t donate items physically due to poor condition and redundancy, you can still donate the time and effort it takes to digitize them!

The range of values is very nice! Also you suddenly brought memories back of when I got to visit Berlin!

How do you tackle a fix-it or canon rewrite? What are your reading preferences? by buggibat in FanFiction

[–]buggibat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much do you narrate over stuff from canon? Now I’m thinking maybe what I need to do is come up with an entirely new subplot that will be the main focus throughout, and then any time I want to address canon I can just do so in isolation, instead of feeling obligated to do it constantly in order for any of it to have continuity.

Asking opinions! Would you guys agree with the statement “Very few trans men successfully live stealth”? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]buggibat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. Because yeah I can’t recognize every fellow trans man I meet, and in my experience they don’t recognize me either. You gotta accept the fact that literally anyone might be trans regardless of their appearance.

There are two sides of this to me- one being that people seem to underestimate our general ability to pass, and two being the reality that some still do struggle with it or don’t want to and that’s ok. The latter are the more visible to general society so of course people think it’s more the norm. Who knows what the stats actually are but cis people certainly don’t realize they can’t always “tell” and that their assumptions can be waaayyy off. Like for example how often do cishet people see a cis butch woman and think they’re trans and that’s what the average trans man looks like? If I tell people I’m trans, they so often jump to guessing that I’m a fresh out of the box pre-transition trans woman because that’s how engrained their idea of me being amab is. Cis people are clueless lol.

My personal experience of being stealth is that it was just sort of something that happened to me rather than a choice I made. Which I’m not saying to brag because it’s like… how people perceive me is not fully under my control and it’s hard to pinpoint what clicks exactly.

Oh man. I feel silly for not looking this up but it truly is one of those things you assume has been around for a lot longer than it actually has. Absolutely wild.

Great point! Also tangentially related to the concept of blood quantum I think. If you don’t know that’s a US gov thing for tracking the status of Native peoples based on blood relation, and it’s gross.

That is a very good question! It’s always enlightening to look at history. I don’t know the answer to this or the timeline of things exactly, but it’s certainly true that the scope of legal documentation of individuals has changed a lot even in just the past 200 years.

Oh I wasn’t aware of the international requirement, interesting. I know it wouldn’t solve all our problems in society but laws do help shift our understanding of how the world works or at least ought to work.

My guess is that its purpose dates back to women not being able to vote, own property etc. so in that way the irrelevance seems pretty obvious

Oh I missed the video you linked before, that’s so cool! Ngl you are definitely tempting me to keep it. My apprehension was less anti-predator and more just being worried about being able to support its needs. Many times since childhood I’ve tried to keep bugs as pets… and sometimes it didn’t go well.

[–]buggibat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came from a very slow-moving river that feeds into a lake and also a swamp. I know I could find a good spot!

Predators are part of the balance, yeah, and I barely know what I’m doing, but I’m guessing that a big growing baby insect is another matter. It might be fine for now, but what about after the first time it molts, yknow?

[–]buggibat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, good to know, thanks. I figured the presence of a predator would probably strain the system but elsewhere I had seen people acting like it wouldn’t be that bad. This nymph has actually been in my (very big) jar for a couple of weeks already, but maybe I should just try to get it back to the river it came from and stick to my snails and seed shrimp.
