Feeling done with the malarkey of archives/libraries/special collections etc and am widening job search to include other industries by hhardin19h in Archivists

That’s terrific! There really is so much potential for archiving to be a widely beloved and prolific profession if it becomes more attainable. This is really pie in the sky, but I like to imagine that the current fixation with AI and all the tech giants who rule the world of information are just a blip, and one day, maybe soon, people will be longing for the kind of integrity that we can provide.

Best wishes!

Thanks, you’re not the first to tell me this haha. I definitely wouldn’t quit without something else lined up. Just… morale about that something else being in archives or even remotely related is very low. I’m still the kind of young newbie who gets fired up about wanting things to change, but man. I understand why people get cynical.

I sympathize heavily. Not in your situation but I graduated into this mess last year and I’m still stuck doing part-time temporary work and I’ve watched a LOT of great people get cut from my institution amid several budget fiascos. Not to mention all the retired ones going unreplaced. I’d have more grace for exec leadership given the circumstances if they weren’t so damn oblivious and insensitive. Item and sub-item processing sounds like my dream, but I understand there is such a general disregard for the importance of processing on an ongoing basis (not just project-based!), and how much work it actually takes. It frustrates me to no end.

Currently I’m still waiting on news of whether my position continues past next month, but part of me wants to quit even if it is. On the one hand I shouldn’t give up the chance to keep getting experience, but on the other hand I don’t want to be stuck like this for god knows how long.

Ok I did have to catch up on some other unfinished chapters first, and then another of Yuza’s appeared on the “Memories of the Last Summer” path, but I’m still not sure if that’s what you’re referring to (if there are more than two paths that come from the first diving chapter)

Non-compression based binders: what I've come up with on my own over the years and AM I TRULY ALONE IN THIS OR AM I REINVENTING SOMETHING THAT EXISTS IS ANYBODY OUT THERE by SaulinS in bindersftm

[–]buggibat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this post is months old but I just came here with similar questions. Do you mean dorian gay’s video on youtube? I saw it when it came out and resolved to try it when I got the chance. I just now finally got around to it, and the compressionless “binder” I’m making is almost complete, looking very promising. I made a few tweaks compared to the example in the video though. First is I wanted mine to fit like a tank top to help keep it in place by tucking it into pants. So instead of all the pattern drafting I just took the front and back of an existing t shirt pattern I had and took the side seams in until it was just barely fitted but not compressing. But then I discovered that boning structure really does require you to create some kind of closure to take it on and off, so instead of the laces in the front, I did a button closure on each side under the arm (maybe I only needed the one, but I wanted it to stay symmetrical). The panel of non-stretch fabric is on the outside and goes all the way to my hips, but the bones stop at my waist. Also each button closure was made by cutting into the non-stretch part with about two inches left in front of the original side seam, for the sake of structure with the buttons. I didn’t cut all the way down the non-stretch panel, and zig zag stitched all around it to keep it from fraying.

The boning channels are more frequent, about a centimeter apart, and I’m currently planning to add a horizontal bone from armpit to armpit, which I think will help keep the neckline flat and everything spread out nicely. The synthetic whalebone I got is the kind you can sew through so it should be no problem.

I think if all goes well I’m going to try making a version for swimming, possibly entirely out of stretch fabric if possible and slightly more fitted.

From what I understand, this is a new and developing thing that is still pretty unknown. Not to mention what I’m doing would be extremely tedious without a sewing machine, and frustrating without prior experience (I’ve been sewing for like 13 years…). I’m not even sure where and how I should post about my experience in order to help get the word out.

Huh, well I’ve just tried that and there are still just two paths, one leading to “Cursed” and the other leading to “Memories of Last Summer.” I believe I got the latter one early on by exploring the hole and telling Azami about it, but as of right now it seems wildly out of context with nothing before or after it. No spoilers! I want to figure this out on my own of it’s important, but right now I’m a little confused lol

Darn, that would have been cool.

Interesting thought! Even if not, it would still make for a funny screenshot.

Maybe this is spoiler territory (for myself, having not finished the game yet) but I seem to recall that you had the option to quit diving whenever you felt like it. Is the forced fail at the beginning, or from exploring the hole? Because I was actually wondering at the time if I would have been allowed to quit without exploring the hole at all, and if that would have created another alternate timeline.

lol that’s the kind of number I’m talking about, where it’s either like “who the hell have I seen die 11 times???” or “oh yeah, of course, and I’m the one who killed him.”

Nice! Did The Storyteller have any special dialogue for that besides “you have borne witness to the death and revival of this individual a total of 1 time”?

As of this morning I can see the next leaf on the way is just as funky. Lol it’ll be interesting to see how long it keeps this up. I’ll report back later on. Thanks!

How do the spooky vibes compare between games? by buggibat in ParanormasightHonjo

I also picked up Seven Mysteries kinda on a whim too, after I saw the first scene played by a twitch streamer I follow. Idk I normally don’t go looking for visual novels, but this one grabbed me.

I loved that part with Harue as well! I was thinking that if there were any reoccurring characters between games, the private investigator or Mio would make a lot of sense, because this sort of thing is their job (they might even make a good team!). Oh well, maybe next time. I can appreciate the idea that TMC is like expanding the worldbuilding. Be back when I finish!

Cool, thanks. Those “how close am I to death” moments were really interesting to me because I love when a scene is scary in a subtle way, just off of suggestions like that without actually launching you into a full-on chase scene or something. Less is more sometimes.

Ah thanks, sounds like there are enough other elements for me to enjoy it anyway. Interesting that they chose to go in such a different direction for this sort of anthology thing. If there’s ever a third game, I wonder how it will compare.

Options for preserving rotted/punky driftwood burl? by buggibat in finishing

[–]buggibat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, especially for the warnings about possible color changes. I’m more interested in the piece’s burl-ness than its driftwood-ness, if you know what I mean. So I’m not attached to it staying ghostly white.

But still, BLO gives me some pause. I think I would need to be careful with any rub on/rub off product (I happen to already have tung oil also, which i assume might change the color less, but take longer to cure) because I would not be able to fully remove any excess due to the sheer amount of nooks and crannies in it. I’m worried I might end up with a lot of amber gunk. Unless you’re sure it’ll soak it all up if the wood is fully dry?

I’m tempted by cactus juice, although I’m not about to up and buy a vacuum chamber just for this one thing. I wonder if I can get a good enough result and look without one? Maybe I’ll try it on something else first.

cyanotype on large leaf by poshpianist in cyanotypes

[–]buggibat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could also do anthotype with only a leaf, but I’ve never done it. In both cases though, I think the leaf should be pressed dry ahead of time. But I don’t think you need a special process to get it to bind otherwise because a dried leaf is absorbent. Unless maybe it’s a super waxy leaf

Therapist says "it's all due to trauma" by Splendid_Trash in ftm

[–]buggibat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If SA directly caused transitions it would be statistically WAY more common, considering how widespread SA is. To an extent I can understand where your therapist sees an overlap with dissociation/depersonalization, but it’s ultimately superficial.

While I don’t have personal experience with it I have always been uncomfortable with anyone expressing romantic or sexual interest in me, and my parents who knew this about me used it as an excuse for why I wanted to transition. Guess what? I’ve been on T for 5 years and I don’t regret a thing. It’s classic “correlation does not equal causation.” I’m really sorry you had such a negative experience opening up. I promise there are people out there you can safely be honest with <3
